My favorite nonfiction book, which accidentally became one of the best books I’ve ever read is Romantic Outlaws by Charlotte Gordon. It’s a dual biography about Mary Shelley and her mother Mary Wollstonecraft. It is SO interesting, and so incredible to see women being so brazen about women’s rights in such a repressive time. Absolutely LOVED every second of that book.
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is pretty cool. It combines amazing medical science history and shocking medical ethics of the mid to late 20th century. Really got my brain thinking!
"Man search for meaning by Victor frankl " one the first book i read and fell in love with it. This book is really insightful and heart touching it shows human strength and its ability to find meaning in the most difficult time.. Can't recommend it more.. You should check it out.. And btw loved your non fictions recommendations list..
the one on mindfulness sounds so amazing! I'm new to the concept of mindfulness so definitely picking it up. Love books that can change my perspective on life
I really want to read more non-fiction, so this video was perfect! I really really want to read Sapiens and Virginia Woolf's book 💛 I really recommend Factfulness by Hans Rosling! And Quiet by Susan Cain.
A favorite of mine is Cadillac Desert by Marc Reisner. It's about the politics and engineering of building large dams in the American west, mostly west of the 100th parallel. Fascinating reading.
Thank you for these recommendations! It's so great to hear that you still love the books you used during your degree. Most of my favourite history reads are more 'academic' than non-fiction. But if you want to give them a try I would seriously recommend 'Oedipus and the Devil' by Lyndal Roper and 'Crime, Gender and Social Order' by Garthine Walker. A more commercial type book that I am sure you will love is 'The Five' by Hallie Rubenhold.
Thank you for the video. I probably will have to buy Sapiens now :D As for recommendations, I really appreciated the books "The Girl with Seven Names" by Hyeonseo Lee and "In Order to Live" by Yeonmi Park. They are the stories of the authors' escape from North Korea.
Hi, Christy! Thank you for sooo much for all of your book recommendations (nonfiction and fiction alike!). We have such similar taste in literature and I always feel inspired to read after watching your videos. I feel like we could be such good friends if we lived in the same country! You're an inspiration, I raise my tea mug to you ✨
My favorite books are 1 Think and grow rich 2 power of your subconscious mind 3 the greatest salesman in the world This are my most favorite books. Ma'am you are so beautiful.
I like one thing about you very much. You always give Synopsis for the books. Like In your favourite movies video you talked about what the movies were about. I really really love this thing about you. I appreciate it. Keep it up and I love you very much. You're just so so Beautiful. I'm from India.
My very favorite non-fiction book is called 'Gang of One: Memoir of the Red Guard'. It's an autobiography by a man named Fan Shen who grew up during the Cultural Revolution, and the book is about his experience and how he escaped to America. I love it so much; it feels like a fiction book, not boring at all, and the people and events he goes through and how he survives all of it is amazing
Definitely recommend checking out "Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow" by Harari. There is a little bit of overlap with "Sapiens", but it goes well beyond it too! :-)
A Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain. That book broke my heart is the best way. It's about her life during WWI in England, her time as a nurse, and all of the people she lost as a result of the war. Vera was so ahead of her time and it's a truly fascinating look into the mind of a young person during that horrific time.
I loved On Writing by Stephen King. I think the simple writing rules he tested and shared are useful and have been improving my writing. I started Sapiens but I didn't finish it. Maybe I'll try to continue during the holiday. Two non-fiction books I've been loving lately are Educated by Tara Westover and The Moment of Lift by Melinda Gates. Always very excited to watch your videos.
A short history of nearly everything by Bill Bryson Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee dear ijeawele or a feminist manifesto in fifteen suggestions by chimamanda ngozi adichie
Sapiens sounds like a good read! I've added it to my wish list for now, thanks~ I'm currently reading through The Highly Sensitive Person by Elaine N. Aron, and I have Quiet by Susan Cain waiting to be read as well. The only other book I can remember loving is Mao's Last Dancer by Li Cunxin, I'd have to check the library at my parents' place to recall any others. Not sure if you'd be interested in any of these books, but thought I'd mention them anyhow :) Thanks for sharing your favourites~
Just discovered your channel, and I think going off your taste you would probably like Alan Hollinghurst 's "The Line of Beauty" (the prose is just... perfection) and Elena Ferrante's series "My brilliant friend" (although I havent read the english translation so I can only hope the subtleties of the text are carried through into english)
I think you'd like an author called Silvia Federici. I read a book that exploded my mind. Calibã e a Bruxa, that's the portuguese title. I found the book in Amazon UK. I don't know if there's avaible for Australia. That's Caliban And The Witch: Women, the Body and Primitive Accumulation. History that explain a lot of women's domination, knoledge of medicine beeing disqualified by society. Sorry my english. I hope you like. Bye =)
I've been reading 'Ghost Empire' by Richard Fidler. It's a non-fiction on the Byzantine Empire, specifically on Byzantium/Constantinople. I find this is a topic that is not really common-knowledge, and I really learned a lot from the book.
Sapiens was life changing! Must read more of these..

“Lost Connections” by Johann Hari. It speaks about how the brain works when one is stressed or dealing with anxiety.
Ooh thank you so much for your recommendation! I'll look it up 😊
Yesss I've been learning more about Johann Hari and his studies and I can't wait to read his book.
@@christy-anne-jones You're very welcome! :)

A Natural History of the senses and of love by Diane Ackerman ia fantastic! Also, Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert :)
"On Writing" is the only thing I've read from Stephen King! :)
I recommand you Peter Ackroyd's book London: The Biography
Thank you! I'll have to check it out 😊

Hi! I don't have a lot of free time to reading, so I'm listening "Sapiens" like an audiobook :)
It's honestly great for people who don't have much time! I listened to audio books while i'm walking 😊
With your love for words, you probably know The Professor and the Madman on the history of the OED...
Oooh no I haven't heard of that one! That sounds cool 😊

Here's my recommendation: 'Imperium' by Francis Parker Yockey. I think you would love it.
I've been reading 'Ghost Empire' by Richard Fidler. It's a non-fiction on the Byzantine Empire, specifically on Byzantium/Constantinople. I find this is a topic that is not really common-knowledge, and I really learned a lot from the book.
YES, THANK YOU!!! I really want to know more about the Byzantium empire. i'll start with this one. Thank you so much 💛💛
@@christy-anne-jones No worries, I'm so glad I could give you a helpful recommendation! :)
The Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn is my favourite non fiction book of all time
I had to finish it in two tries. It was an amazing book, mainly because the brutality and stupidity of many of the people in it infuriated me.
Guns, Germs, and Steel - Jared Diamond - Hi, Christy from Italy.
Hello!! Thank you for your recommendation 😊
U ol should read warm winter diary by sumaiya Shaikh
😍😍😍💓💓💓

Do you have a goodreads account ?
I do but I really don't use it much. I write down all the books I read on my blog, though! christyannejones.com/currently-reading/
