Dollmaking Techniques: Adding a More Realistic Doll Nose with Needle Felting and Fabric Sculpting
- This little video was created as part of a Mini Workshop I taught earlier this summer (2020) on Doll Sculpting Techniques. You can use these techniques: needle felting and fabric sculpture to add a bit more realism to your doll's faces. These are extremely simple techniques, they just take time to execute right for long-lasting results.
For the creation of the entire doll and/or further instruction on how to cover the doll's face and add all the wool facial details you can find the mentioned pattern over here:

Why does the felting need to be very very firm? Is there a disadvantage to making it looser and allowing the tight skin jersey to squish it down to size?
The felting needs to be very firm for several reasons:
1. Wool is biodynamic, which means it is constantly reacting to the environment (moisture, heat, cold, etc) so it "moves". If your felting is "barely there" within a few years or even months, the features that you "felted" will be gone…completely flattened.
2. You won't be able to sculpt the fabric over features that are super soft. You need it to be firm to properly anchor stitches over the fabric to secure it. When the wool losens and compacts the fabric will be completely floating over the area you though you sculpted.
3. It is a much higher quality to sculpt to a very firm stage. You can also get the wool to a completely smooth finish once it is very firm, which allows for the skin cover to have a much more desirable look.
I could literally go on and on...
@@Figandme thank you so much for the answer!!

What fabric do you use in this video?
knit fabric for doll making, brand Laib Yala.
Obrigada
