This is great advice for someone going to school that will make less than 100k a year. Unfortunately I'll have to pay out of pocket for my 1 year program. After which I'll be licensed and make anywhere from 4k to 30k in 1 day. Anyone going to school should look the shortest program length with the highest payout. The second on my list was phlebotomist. Traveling phlebotomist can make 5 Up to 50$ hr for Traveling phlebotomist. Only 3 months for class and only cost no more than 5k. Third is barber or cosmo. 1 year for school. No more than 10k for school and you can make well over 50$ a cut in Cali. Other than that, everything else is 2 years or more and you'll only be making 65 to 100k. Anyone looking to be a lawyer. Take a local college paralegal course first. Then once you pass the bar, law firms mostly hire people with experience, so paralegals always get jobs first. Paralegals is a short program and cost not much.
Hi congrats on your scholarship and seeing it out through the the end Like yourself my education was free through grants , I ended up using it towards things I needed / activities outside of school 1 school therapist out of 20 told me I was wrong and got into a story about taxpayers' dollars. When I was there I struggled with grasping the importance and did not in joy it. Fresh out of HS the quiet guy in the back of class but I was all ways there . So the problem 5 pair of sneakers 20 % of my Check and I don’t we’re them because i feel a sense of guilt around not graduating am I okay? (About one year of community college ) I’m working now 40 hours a week
Don’t feel guilty. You are human! Buy the things you like! Just do it in moderation. Don’t splurge. But you EARNED THAT MONEY! Save it and spend it wisely of course but treat yourself. It’s an investment!
Thank you so much for your empathy I’ve been working ever since I left and it’s been tricky but I’m still going like we all have too I’m having a hard time with my self image when it comes on to those shoes I were my old pair of sneakers to work ever day my mom/ family are all ways telling me to put on my good shoes but most of my good shoes are those shoes purchased through the refund I’ve somehow adopted some kind of weird association around me not being worthy of nice things so they stay how but that’s not what I want. Why because I think I didn’t earn them I think I gave up when things got tough
I’m sorry that’s happening ☹️ have you tried talking to financial aid/student accounts to see what can be done? If they can’t help they may be able to find you work-study.
Nope! Scholarships are not reported to FAFSA (unless they are used as income and not for educational purposes). Scholarships only come up when you receive your final financial aid package from your school.
The full/INSPIRE scholarship came from my school. The Pell grant (about 3k a semester) came from the FAFSA as well as the supplemental education grant (about $500 a semester I think). My costs each semester were a little over 4700.
My school award letter only gave me two options to accept 2200 in Pell and 6500 in loans even though I qualify for the max Pell and they won’t allow me to get more I asked to reject the loans and accept the full Pell and no won’t let me :( I need money and the school only has scholarships for bachelors seeking students which I am not
Have you tried applying for outside scholarships? On scholarships.com etc. I know most of them require a bachelors but there could be some grants out there for you. Dont lose faith! Also, not all loans are bad. As long as you have a plan to repay them you’ll be okay.

Do scholarships decrease the amount fafsa will give you?
Nope! Scholarships are not reported to FAFSA (unless they are used as income and not for educational purposes). Scholarships only come up when you receive your final financial aid package from your school.
How can I go about increasing my student loan amount? I’m trying to receive a bigger disbursement.
Honestly I’m not sure, but maybe someone will see this comment and be able to help you! I have more experience with grants
wowww look at you!
What happens if the amount of scholarships and grants you receive exceed the cost of attendance?
You get a refund check!
did you get all these grants just from applying for fafsa?
or did you apply separately?
The full/INSPIRE scholarship came from my school. The Pell grant (about 3k a semester) came from the FAFSA as well as the supplemental education grant (about $500 a semester I think). My costs each semester were a little over 4700.
I had two external scholarships I found online
My school award letter only gave me two options to accept 2200 in Pell and 6500 in loans even though I qualify for the max Pell and they won’t allow me to get more I asked to reject the loans and accept the full Pell and no won’t let me :( I need money and the school only has scholarships for bachelors seeking students which I am not
