You are so right! It's a travesty that WE have lost so many Giant Sequoia Groves on the Sequoia and Sierra National Forests. Your example of the Nelder Grove applies to what has also happened to many of the Groves after the Windy and Castle Fires. Without logging and reducing the fuel loadings with prescribed fire, you nailed it. Too many trees competing for the moisture and then the drought further exacerbated the problem further. It will take over 1000 years to replace many of these Giant Sequoias and the failure should make every American upset. Thank you for showing and explaining...
The huge granite bulge in the distance, I believe it's named Fresno Dome ( 0:06 & 4:05 ) is where I camped with Mandy in the summer of '91. I do miss her. Born in "Frezburg" (Hi Heather 😉) I've been enjoying this area since my early teens ( '73 ) and I think I might remember Brenda when she was a little girl riding around on a bike with training wheels ~1977-82..? 18:15 - reminds me of the burned out Redwood in the upper campground in Big Basin State Park ( near Boulder Creek & Santa Cruz, CA ) that we used to play in, circa 1967. 23:20 I always heard it was left uncut because it was too large too far up for them to get a saw across..? Gorgeous shot! 24:18 Excellent video! Thank you for the reminder of one of my favorite places - but where I haven't been able to visit in over a decade. Soon, I hope, that will change.
