When I was in my twenties I absolutely loved road trips. Every other weekend or so during the summer I would get in my car and take one of these types of drives..just get out on the road and see what's out there. Pull off in a small town, find the local diner, fill up on bacon and eggs and start driving again. Near the end of the day find a motel, wake up the next morning and start the trip back.
We driving To Los Angeles on Veterans Day from Phoenix Az , me my girlfriend n her mom n 2 chihuahuas can’t wait ! That is why I’m watching these videos
I rode on Interstate 5 in 1983 and Interstate 101 in 1985 by Greyhound Bus.I have known Big Sur for many years by Physical Geography magazine. They say in late 1960's poetry men in West Coast were inspired by Big Sur and wrote it.I could enjoy seeing Big Sur by about two hours drive.Thank you from Tokyo,Japan.
It's such a beautiful drive! I'm glad you were able to see it in person, I love hearing stories like this. I can understand how poets could be influenced by this area. It truly is a paradise on earth. Hope things are well in Tokyo! I hope to make a trip to Japan some day.
It’s a beautiful drive! You’ll love it. Take your time and make some stops along the way. McWay Falls and Bixby Bridge are a must see. As well as Elephant Seal Point.

You’re welcome! I’m glad you’re enjoying it. Big Sur really is like heaven on earth. This video doesn’t do it justice, but is the closest you can get without being there. I hope you’re able to visit there some day!
I hope you get to achieve that dream! Stay focused and you will. It’s a beautiful place.

Now, that we're parked here, by the sea, let's have some of that fried chicken & potato salad with an ice-cold soda pop! Later, we'll have some cake. This is a great trip! Pass those pork rinds up here.
Hi I am from Puerto Rico, we have a tiny section in the southeast that looks a bit like this, I want to do the entire coast from LA to Astoria. Was told and confirmed with Google Maps that a large section between LA and SF including part or all of Big Sur is closed apparently until September so I want to go in October. I am viewing the southbound route here to do the northbound in real time.
Gorgeous from my computer at home but I had a full on panic attack the ENTIRE time until we reached flat ground safe away from death lol. I will not be on this road ever again!
Absolutely! I had some good music playing during this drive. I’m not sure if Pink Floyd was one of them, but it should’ve been. Perfect for this drive. Thank you for watching!
Beautiful video. Thanks 😊 I am going to drive to Big Sur from San Diego in Sept. I went there once a long time ago. This time it will be my first time to drive up there. I wonder how fast you drove.
It’s a beautiful drive. I hope to do it again someday going in the other direction. I didn’t drive super fast, I kept a reasonable speed and stopped to see some sights along the way. Took about 4 hours or so to complete the drive you see in this video. Thank you for watching!
I feel like I've been on a quest lately to correct this issue. It's like the algorithm keeps recommending videos referring to the PCH incorrectly. PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) is not synonymous with highway 1. It's a subsection that runs though LA and Ventura counties. It's not the name of highway 1 up north. In Big Sur it is called the Cabrillo Highway. In San Francisco as well. In nearly all of California you can just say "highway 1" instead. I don't fault anyone because tons of tourist websites and travel guides refer to Highway 1 as PCH but this is incorrect. also, also in the description you refer to "Port Lobos". it's Point Lobos. Beautiful video though :)
I appreciate the positive words. Thank you for your support. Could you point me in the direction of a reference that shows the correct beginning and end of the PCH? It seems the references I’ve sourced have stated that my video falls within those boundaries. I do want my description to be accurate and would like to understand more about what you’re referring to! Thank you!
easiest is to just check google maps or Apple Maps. you can Cleary see the name in various parts of California. also, ask any native Californian like myself. Nobody calls it PCH outside of LA region. You can also look at the wikipedia page that references the California Department of Transportation's description: " In 1959, the legislature officially designated the segment in Southern California between Interstate 5 (I-5) in Dana Point and US 101 near Oxnard as the Pacific Coast Highway (commonly referred to as "PCH", without the definite article "the", unlike other freeway numbers in the Los Angeles area). Between US 101 at the Las Cruces junction (8 miles [13 km] south of Buellton) and US 101 in Pismo Beach, and between US 101 in San Luis Obispo and Interstate 280 in San Francisco, the legislature also designated SR 1 as the Cabrillo Highway in 1959, after the explorer Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo who sailed along the coast line. The legislature also designated the route as the Shoreline Highway in 1957 between the Manzanita Junction near Marin City and Leggett. Smaller segments of the highway have been assigned several other names by the state and municipal governments."
Just understand that the entirety of Highway 1 is NOT called PCH or Pacific Coast Highway. that is an LA thing. I fear I am fighting a losing battle here and people will just continue to call it that online because they don't know. lol. I don't know why it's important to me. I guess I just like accuracy.
Burnout 2 brought me here, because of that track called Big Surf.

@@Michael1966W I would definitely take route 1 for scenic views, which is what I did here. You can follow route 1 south all the way down the coast from San Francisco. Or, you can pass through San Jose and hop on route 1 just north of Monterey and drive south through the area shown in this video.

No. Toyota 4Runner at that time. Moving at 55 mph creates the same effect as if the wind is blowing 55 mph when you're standing still. Sadly GoPro cameras aren't great at capturing sound without wind noise. This was the first video I had made as well, before I learned tricks to minimize this. I wish the sound was better. Maybe I'll make it out to that area again and film a better one. Thank you for watching!
By far America has one of the finest roads and natural scenes in the world. Thanks for sharing the great road trip.
I agree. I am from America, so I may be a bit biased. But the variety of natural scenery in many parts of the country is hard to match.
Have you seen those of the rest of the world to compare?
