Ch - ch - Chimo ⛄ Darren. 🌀💣 has arrived here. Only 6° F but the wind is brutal. Lake effect snow is no treat either. Probably a foot total by Saturday night. High tomorrow 0 I think. Don't want to know wind chill! Awesome streamer though, that warmed me up. I think I have a few smelt in my streamer box. (maybe in the ice box too, they're tasty :-) They tie tandem trolling bucktails down here in the Finger Lakes. The ones I've seen use 2x to 4x hooks though, larger size fore, smaller aft. I understand they use 3906 in the new new england states. Pretty sure forage base down here is predominantly perch for the land locks and rainbows, there's Lakers in there too. You should do some tandem stuff. Some tiers like wire, others use mono because it doesn't kink. I bought a couple years ago at one of our sport shows. The bodies were coated with something sparkly. The guy wouldn't tell me what is was (back in the day of secretcy) but the wire had some translucent beads on it that was cool. Thanks for the post, I think I like your streamers the best, but all your stuff great! Stay warm buddy! Btw, when I emailed you after the draw I sent a gif of John Candy as Chewbacca slapping five with another comedian as Hans Solo. Probably came from the Space Balls movie or Second City TV. Chimo Joe. Cold as a witch's ... out there today. I'm going to have to find Spaceball somewhere. I really like that Mel Brooks parody type stuff. It's just goofy and fun to watch. A big yes on the tandems. Have you read Don Wilson's book on the subject? It had a comprehensive section in there with about 40 or more ways of joining the hooks tied by Ron Mckusick. The precursor to today's articulated flies. I'm going to find a goofy movie and tie some flies today. Airplane, Naked Gun or Spaceballs. Cheers! 🌞

I'd put the small stand mixer bowl over my head and took deep breaths while saying Luke I'm your father, every one cracked up! Yeah today is worse. No way I'm snow blowing today. The wind blows the discharge in my face. Tomorrow's high 22°F, I'll do it then. By Monday 33°F and rain/snow mix. Must be global warming starts up again. Cheers & warm thoughts. At 3pm the Laff network has Wayne's World 2. All free over the air digital broadcast tv. That's my parody update for ya. I may have a Don Wilson smelt book, Amotto published, bought a lot of discounted books thru Fly Fishing and Tying Journal. I got sidetracked to Murray Wilson's "fuzzly" techniques and the Dehydrated Minnow. At first I thought it was that Ordes dubbing technique. Haven't got to R. Mckusick yet. But your name is up there in bright lights for smelt patterns. Lots of pintrist 🙊 🙉🙈 pix too. Man you tie some wicked streamers! You ever see Ruben Martin's stuff? I like his too, and him as a person, good guy. Another tyer, S American, Marcello something? Guided Rowley I think down in Jurassic Lake. He ties nice streamers too. Hey my buddy Al Daher from Mickey's Bait entered a perch streamer in the Reader Favorites of Fly Tyer 2017 spring issue. I think I mentioned them before, they have a channel here, Bucktail Jigs. Barry Clarke has a good moose hair article in that issue too. Later man, have fun with the parodies and patterns!. 👍😂
Don has a few books. Tandem Streamers was his last one from just a couple years ago. He also has 4 or 5 self published ones. Some harder to find. I have the Smelt book as well, some nice little patterns in there.
-22, I can feel it. It's -25°C here tonight with the wind making it closer to -40... I'm spending my weekend tying flies and watching fishing videos. Dreaming of warmer days.
I was out for about 10 minutes today, the wind was hitting -40 down at the lake. My battery dies after about 5 minutes in the cold. I can't wait for it to warm back up to normal temps.

Fly fishing feels sooo far away when it was -22° this morning. Major bummer!

It didn't stop me from going out and chucking spoons for coho. Lasted about 45 minutes. The fish made it worth the freezing fingers.
