I can't for the life of me understand why this amazing talented Nichole is under rated? I can't get enough of her...Love her!!!
I think it`s because her fame originated from the Pussy Cat Dolls. That type of music, with its overt sensuality and sexuality is not seen as particularly creative or talented. No matter that society will say "Do your thing, it`s your life", there are always consequences. Fortunately for Nicole, she has such vocal talent, she may overcome this problem.

Singing is not always about hitting this or that note!! Specially in musical theatre. I love this version she is just so emotional and raw not trying to "reach the notes" but instead attempting to convey the true essence of the song, the character an so on. So much respect for her.

First Last she did, but so many people perform this song to prove they can belt loudly - I don’t really care if there IS no belt if the song brings the entire theatre to tears.

When I heard her singing Phantom of the Opera, I was sold. She really is a great singer.. And then I came upon this and then a lot more. I just wish I could see her on broadway one day.

What people dont know is that is classically trained in Opera. She also performs a duet of Dont Cry for Me Argentina (in Italian) with the world great Andrea Bocelli. She has a musical theater back ground, PCD took her away from all of that and put her in a box. People and their comments on here are extremely ignorant

If anyone saw this live, in the actual theatre watching Cats. You'd really appreciate her talent. The whole audience was in silence and erupted into such a sincere applause. I very rarely get goosebumps, but this... was on another scale of powerful

I was there during her last performance In the west end
I got to see her in Cats and I have seen many west end shows, but Nicole singing "Memory" rates as the best 4 minutes I have ever experienced. As you said, the audience was in total silence and then rapturous applause at the end. It was totally captivating and actually better than this performance at the Olivier awards
I think the way she used her voice here was deliberately for the raw, exhausted emotion of the song. I've never seen Cats (a bucket list thing) but it sounds to me like the song is sung from a lonely, tired and disappointed place in the character's storyline. This came out beautifully in her performance. It actually made me cry. So whether her vocals sound off or not, she emoted perfectly what I assume the song is meant to.

asingleverse She's a fantastic theatre singer. Her acting through song is just beautiful and I really think she needs to do Broadway. The Evita song you mentioned always gives me chills whenever I hear it. I have mad respect for her as a singer now that I've seen these.
@redraven24, I have seen Cats twice, and you're spot on. Sometimes the emotion does more for a song than hitting every song. Nicole gave me goosebumps and teary eyes. She nailed the part of
Grizzabela. It's easy to see why she got the nomination for the part in London.

I watched this from the front row of CATS in London with Nicole performing, she had the whole audience in tears, when she sings the last verse with such power it literally felt like she had hit you in the chest with her words. absolutely amazing
Nicole has a musical theatre background.... she’s absolutely amazing at this!!! Her performance in “Cats” is not just about singing pretty but really getting into the character and I believe she showed everyone that she can definitely do that!!!

I've seen her do this song b4. She is amazing but this wasnt her best. It is what it is. Anyone that says it is doesnt have a clue. May have just been nerves or something bc if the setting. I'm so glad to see someone that understands that music isn't just about pitch accuracy or vocal prowess. Music is the language of the soul and should be treated accordingly. If you can't emote, you can't sing. This is such an emotional rollet coster to listen to! And that's how it should be...

People are complaining yet I think she still did well considering she's been working her butt off all year. She's not at her absolute best here I agree, but she still gave a passionate performance. She had to do her album promo Sept. - Nov. of last year, then Cats from December - February. Right after Cats, she flew to do shows in India, Philippines and Italy. After that she flew back to LA, back into the studio for album rework then had to film 6 weeks straight for her new show on NBC. They had just finished filming the season finale the night before and she flew straight to sound check in the UK for this show. A bunch of people were complaining she wasn't in costume - well Grizabella's makeup takes about an hour itself to be put on, not including the wig and costume. Any normal person would be exhausted but Nicole still gave it everything she had into that performance.
Couldn't have said it better! I don't understand why so many people can't acknowledge how talent and gifted this lady is....doesn't get into my head.

I still think she should've won. I managed to see her twice and once was really up close and personal and the other time was right at the back of the theatre. Either way, she brought tears to my eyes with the energy in that room. She is a bloody amazing talent; she deserved that Olivier.
