- Preparing for race day at Fly Up 417 DH MTB bike park - without even realising he's preparing for anything... or racing in the British Cycling Go Ride 6 and under race next week. FULL RUN of the Blue Raccoon race course at the end of the video!
All Harley thinks is 'yay! I get to ride my bike down the mountain!' - and that's how we're going to keep it for him for as long as we can. What do kids love to do? Play! He thinks riding down the mountain is wicked good fun (along with the uplift van... he LOVES that!!) so instead of him worrying about his time or what other people are doing for next weeks Go Ride race at Fly Up 417 this will just be another day enjoying riding down the mountain with his friends :)

In this video we were also celebrating Harleys dads 40th birthday - we all ate far too much cake! Huge thanks to Michelle Eaton for creating this bike themed cake as a surprise for Billy! The parents took it in turns to keep an eye on the kids either on the pump track or playing back at our vans so that we could do 'parent' runs - because as fun as it is following your kid down a trail sometimes you just wanna go a little bit faster yourself!
The bike:
We get a few questions about the bike that Harley is riding - it's a Propain Frechdax 20 inch full suspension kids bike that's been stripped down and powder coated in candy red as he wanted to have a 'bouncy Spider-man bike' - we're yet to get the web stickers but he's so pleased with how it looks so far he hasn't noticed its not finished yet. We got this after chatting with other parents of young riders and they told us it has one of the lowest standover heights of a 20inch wheel bike. The benefit? 20 inch wheels can roll easier over rough surfaces than 16inch - and they roll faster too. For Harley being so young he also isn't as strong as he'd like to be so when riding on the 16 inch wheels he would loose speed over the bumps and wouldn't carry his speed from the downhill sections through into the uphill sections very well and would slow right down - and this upset him, as he wanted to go faster. The low standover height allows Harley to reach the floor, start himself off riding and come to a stop himself without toppling over (unless he's on a slight camber... watch to the end for the fail!) Another bike with super low standover height is the VPACE 20 inch bikes - note the hardtail is slightly taller than the full sus - they're also said to be really light too but we're yet to try them out for ourselves!
Keep an eye out for the second part of this weekend away where we took a trip to Sheffield for the SX Worx indoor super cross track to ride at their first ever all electric kids bike session!

CORRECTION!!! We thought the finish was on the wrong berm… he actually achieved a sub 3min run *the finish is at 2.59 on the timer in the end clip*

Hey, also heading there for my son's 1st race. Details are a bit sketchy for a first timer. What time is the kids u6 race actually, website shows all races starting at 0900? And do parents use the uplift and follow kids down, or wait elsewhere?
Parents can use the uplift but they have to go down on there own because it’s a time trial, come see us when your there if you like and we’ll point you in the right direction and help with uplift and stuff.
Also the race timings are due to be emailed out any time now; check your inbox. If it hasn’t come through by tomorrow get in touch and I’ll forward any details we have.
