This was the first guide for the game that I've found that explains what the stars mean near the Innocent icons. Thank you for being the one to finally tell me what that means lol
no problem! a lot of the information gets passed around on GameFaqs, but many times it comes in the form of a giant tidal wave of text that is morr than a little overwhelming so I wanted to make sure to point out the important points! those stars cofused the hell out of me at first, before I started dcing into the wonderful world of INNOCENT BREEDING!!!
Thank you for this! I had a vague idea about what inocents were, but thank you for explaining everything thoroughly. Very informative. It all makes sense now!!! Thank you so much!!!
This video has been SO helpful... every other guide talks about innocents like the writers came out of the womb handling them. I really appreciate the chill, basic explanations, and I actually took notes on this. 15/10 guide.
I have to ask, does it really sound better? I got some complaints in the beginning.. lol complaints, as I recall some dude told me to kill myself because I suck. can't remember if this was before or after I got a new headset.hope it helps people out, regardless.
That's so harsh, youtube comments are the worst. The first two "disgaea 5 innocent guides" I tried to watch had the game audio almost louder than than the narrator which was annoying. I liked that the levels in your video made it listenable/understandable.
glad to hear it! that means I can manage to do some things right, at least! I know what you mean. I originally had the idea to make this because some guy on gamegaqs, a self-proclaimed "expert" was going around giving out false info about stuff, and just confusing people . I figure that as long as I helped even ONE person, I contributed to the community! HOORAY!
Thanks! I'm not some uber world-best player or anything, but if I can help people to better enjoy a great game (and series) then I am more than happy to do so!
I understand completely. I tried to load up my old save game to resume working on an item I was leveling up, and my brain just walked out on me. OF course, I've also got some health issues on top of all the content, which undoubtedly made things worse, but even back before I got sick, sometimes I'd just stare at the screen for long periods while I tried to form a plan and stick with it. I found that giving myself small goals helped. Small like "level up my sword 10 times" instead of something like "Max out my gear." Small steps are easier to see progress on and having that sense of achievement helps get me going! Good luck, hope you enjoy the game!
Hey thanks for the guide. Sorry to hear you got complaints about it. I found it really helpful. I've been looking all over for good guides for the systems in this game, but they're almost impossible to find on UA-cam. Everything is just playthroughs or in the case of the occasional guide, they're usually blowing through really fast doing post game stuff and assuming the viewer already understands the systems really well. I appreciate your explanation.
Glad it helped! And yeah, that's a problem with the series in general: they say that the main story is just the tutorial, and that the real game doesn't start until post-game, and as a result they tend to focus on that. Which is great... IF you don't need help with some of the "lesser" stuff. Anyway, happy to help, and thanks for the feedback!
thanks a ton dude. Finally got around to playing this game and I love it, but it's overwhelming at times. People like you explaining to noobs is exactly what I needed!
Glad I could help. Think of them as power ups for your gear that you need to slap the shit out of to unlock, but due to the nature of the game, many of them are rendered less useful by late-game, since you'll be likely so powerful that defense and such won't even come into play. No need to block an attack when you can just one-shot the guy about to use it.the good news is, you can freely swap them around (except the green ones)
i found out how innocents work thank u for youre guide. just only need to know if after subdueing my innocents in item world and doubling there stats. if i put them in low lvl items will the innocents i need to fight (for subdue) be low lvl like the item?
To make sure I'm understanding you correctly.. are you asking if putting an innocent in a low-level item will make the innocent weaker? If that's what you're asking, don't worry: it won't. If you put a 500 ATK innocent on a rusty sword, you'll have a 500+ ATK rusty sword. Hopefully I understood you correctly, let me know if not. In the meantime, I saw another question, so I'll go see if I can answer that!
@@AngryIcecube hi there, im asking if the lvl of the item i have my innocents in, will determine the lvl of the innocent i have to fight to subdue? for example a 500attack innocent in a lvl 1 item, will that make my innocent subdue fight match the item lvl?
@@michaeleijzermans7111 Not the item level, no. the item rank will affect the difficulty of the inhabitants, though, so a rusty sword will have weaker enemies than say a beam saber. As you level the item in the item world, the enemies WILL get stronger, but slowly, you can go dozens of floors before the enemies start to get higher... make sure to use geo tile effects to give your team an edge in combat!
@@michaeleijzermans7111 Oh, no, those are different from rank; items go from rank 1-40, with 40 being the super unique stuff like the Sword Hoshimitsu. kind of hard to explain, since the game doesn't really tell you this. Say, for example, you have a thimble. That's a rank 1 Fist. If you go to the item shop and check each weapon category, each one listed is a different rank (can;t remember if it sorts them low-> high or the other way). Basically, higher rank means better stats (and tougher enemies inside, etc)
I have to agree with Raldor, this criticism is weird. I found this very very helpful. Disgaea 5 is massive, and I have no idea how to do anything to progress through the game, so this helped a ton. thank you! Would you recommend any other video guides or wikis that might help me traverse this game better?
Mr. Evil Bytes has a channel with some excellent videos on the how-to side of things. He's broken the game mechanics pretty thoroughly and explained things over on GameFAQS. As for the criticisms, most of them were coming from one guy in particular with an axe to grind, because he was spouting off a bunch of BS on the 'FAQS and I called him out on it. So he kind of went after me in some kind of vengeful crusade. He eventually went away when people ignored him so meh. At any rate, I'd definitely recommend Mr Evil Byte, he was one of the big specialists in the community. The one thing that helped me out the most, though, was to give myself definite goals that were specific, like "unlock Witch tier 3" instead of grander ones such as "Unlock all classes" because it's easier to see progress when the goal is just a short trip rather than 500 hours away. It also helps to familiarize you with the various mechanics and systems so that more advanced guides won't seem like they're written in Latin. but most important of all: HAVE FUN. Just because Expert 118 tells you to equip the ULTRA DEATH AXE on the MANDATORY SAMURAI PWNSTAR doesn't mean you can't use a Wind Spinner if you prefer it!
AngryIcecube sorry about your troll. Glad he went away. I loved the way you explain things, so thank you. What’s the best goals to strive for? I feel like “beat the main campaign” is what comes first to mind. What else is there beyond that??
A common saying among fans is "the game doesn't start until post-game." In a way, the main campaign is just a tutorial to prepare you for the challenges that await after you beat the final boss.To handle them, you'll need stats that could be considered to be absolutely ridiculous. I'm talking doing BILLIONS of damage. But to get there, I would probably find a character you like.. If you just rush through the story, you'll more than likely slam into a brickwall when they start dropping some of the more difficult maps on you. To counter this, you take that one character, level its gear up in the item world (just a little bit), which also levels up your entire squad as well as gets you better quality gear from the bonus lists and such, in addition to Innocents (which further levels up your gear)... In this way, when you get to the later chapters, the sudden spike in difficulty isn't quite as abrupt as it would be, and you won't need to brute-force your way through. And even if you DO end up using brute force, it won't be quite as painful because you'll have a character stronger than what would be normal for someone who had just cleared maps and moved on without pausing for breath. Not to mention unlocking the higher tiers of classes means you have better skills available which opens up more options for handling those tough maps! of course, the end goal is UNLOCK EVERYTHING, but this way, you're doing it in manageable steps so it's way easier on your sanity. Because after all, if you can't one-shot a 20-star carnage world tyrant overlord with a thimble, well, WHY NOT!?
AngryIcecube Amazing. Thank you so much for that. I like that idea of picking one character and focusing on building them. How do you add new skills to a character? And how do you find said skills to apply to a character
It has been a while since I played last, so i might be a little sketchy on details, but I seem to recall being able to get skill scrolls that will give a character a particular skill, like Fire or what have you. I believe you can get them from the quest board (randomly) or you have the option of going through the Chara World to make a scroll of one of your skills for another character to use as well. Then there are the skills you get from leveling up and raising weapon affinities. There's an NPC who can improve your skills for mana, but be careful because as a skill gets upgraded, the SP costs skyrocket. Oh, and before I forget, it's a good idea to have a spell-caster in your roster for long-range support, be it damage or healing. Never a bad idea to have someone who can pound a target from 8 or 9 tiles away. Some of the later maps don't pull any punches!
Thanks. I was wrecking innocents, but they weren't changing to yellow so I wasn't sure what to do. I restarted after leaving 2 years ago. Now I do 1,000 damage instead to 4000k lol, so a lotta stuff I forgot how to do
Well, for over-leveling, i'd have to say the Statistician for the exp boost. But in the meantime, SINGLE stat innocents have a higher cap and effect on an item's growth, AS I RECALL (it has been a while since I actually looked into all the mechanics in-depth). Quick note: real powerleveling is something that's done near the end of the game; the stuff during the story is nowhere NEAR as fast. Not saying don't do it, but just a warning that when you finish the story you'll be amazed at how fast it can be to grind a few (thousand) levels!
hi there :-) i have been in item world up to floor 10 and along the way i have fought 5x innocents and subdue'd them, however when leaving innocent town and getting my status report only 1 of my innocents on the item are yellow/subdue status?? so each run i can only effectivly subdue 1?? or how is this and the mechanics?
Oh, if the item is full, the innocents will go to your innocent warehouse (if there is room), so check there. What I do is buy items to help sort my innocents, keep all my managers on THIS item until I need them, then put them on whatever item I'm using to go into. You can subdue as many innocents as you find, otherwise.
Oh, yeah, every 10th floor will give you the option to continue deeper or exit. and best of all, every time you run out of gency exits, the item worler NPC gives you a freebie, so don't worry about using them up! But whatever you do, make sure you do it FOR USALIA!! :)

@@michaeleijzermans7111 Hey, no problem! Glad I can help. Though it is strange that she isn't giving you a free exit. Oh, there is another way to get an exit for sure: on the boss floor of the item world, the first item of the bonus list will always be a gency exit. Since it's the first item, it doesn't get deleted if you just go through the exit, so if you can reach the 10th floor, just hop right in and skip the floor, and you'll get one. Or you could use the alchemy shop, IF you've unlocked it (kind of late in the story, though), so there are other options. But yeah, just make a quick 10-floor trip and you should be fine, especially if you can defeat the boss! good luck!
im playing on ps4 and im new to the serie's, on innocent management it say's i can touch "the pad button" to combine them together for higher lvl innocent for example 2x innocent dietician lvl 1 to ?? but for some reason if i touch the padd "mid button" it say's i have no inocents to combine?? but i have litteraly douzens of same innocents both innocent stats and lvl. how do i get this done? do i need to unlock that further in campaign i dunno? im at chapter 3, pls help me out :-)
Are they yellow or red? You can combine them if you've subdued them (yellow), but not if they're red. I hope that helps; been sick this last week so I'm not as coherent as I'd like to be.
@@AngryIcecube i hope u are well and cured fast :-) so after they have been subdued i can combine them for higher lvl? in innocent management? or i need to breed them in farm? subdue, then breed? or subdue then combine i dunno? and how to subdue? its all alot for me since im fresh new player, but this game is amazing and i hope u can help me dig deeper into the game play thank u in advance
@@michaeleijzermans7111 Once they're yellowl, you're good to go. you only NEED the farm to breed the special dual-stat inoocents, like the sprinter (or whatever it's called, I forget exactly) which boost 2 stats instead of one
I can't really disagree, though I think it should fall to the devs to explain these things, but yeah, I didn't even really notice the stars for weeks.. that's pretty under the radar for a key mechanic to growth in a game. And it's becoming more of a trend these days.. too often it seems as though you're just supposed to somehow KNOW all these details, fresh out of the gate, and that's just negligent. Especially for games of this size. Imagine if a game like Civilization came out and they just decided to not included the Civlopedia and said "here ya go, figure it out." games are supposed to be fun, not frustrating... especially when the frustration comes from not being given basic information needed to play the game!
I find I can't go back to older mechanics. Too many instances of having to hard reset in the item world when there was no way to clear the level I was on...
I really appreciate what you are doing with this video and it is great information. Unfortunately, and this is particularly difficult with headphones, you do this lip smacking thing nearly every time you talk and I found it too annoying to keep watching. A mic that is father from your face might help. I hope this feedback is helpful as this is good content.
Well, I apologize for that. The mix is on a fixed boom, so I can't really adjust it. But it's something of a moot point, as the video is over a year and half old. Still, assuming my health gets better, I can try to keep that in mind if I do start making more vids.
Sure and I think you're doing a great thing by sharing what you know in an accessible way. Disgaea 5 is my first Disgaea and it really helps to have help from veterans of the series to explain some of the less obvious mechanics. Best wishes for your health.
Yes, a certain level of experience with the series is assumed (that's why it's more of a visual aid). Subdual is done through battle in the item world. Place a hostile innocent in an item, then go to the item world and complete floors until you encounter that innocent. Defeat it and it will be subdued (but not if an enemy defeats it). The farm is unlocked through gameplay.

But yeah, just make a quick 10-floor trip and you should be fine, especially if you can defeat the boss! good luck!
Really appreciate the video!
Np! Glad it was of some use!
im playing on ps4 and im new to the serie's, on innocent management it say's i can touch "the pad button" to combine them together for higher lvl innocent for example 2x innocent dietician lvl 1 to ?? but for some reason if i touch the padd "mid button" it say's i have no inocents to combine?? but i have litteraly douzens of same innocents both innocent stats and lvl. how do i get this done? do i need to unlock that further in campaign i dunno? im at chapter 3, pls help me out :-)
Are they yellow or red? You can combine them if you've subdued them (yellow), but not if they're red. I hope that helps; been sick this last week so I'm not as coherent as I'd like to be.
@@AngryIcecube i hope u are well and cured fast :-) so after they have been subdued i can combine them for higher lvl? in innocent management? or i need to breed them in farm? subdue, then breed? or subdue then combine i dunno? and how to subdue? its all alot for me since im fresh new player, but this game is amazing and i hope u can help me dig deeper into the game play
thank u in advance
@@michaeleijzermans7111 Once they're yellowl, you're good to go. you only NEED the farm to breed the special dual-stat inoocents, like the sprinter (or whatever it's called, I forget exactly) which boost 2 stats instead of one
Thanks for the video mate !
No Problem!
this game would be way more popular if weebs would explain this shit...I DIDNT EVEN KNOW WHAT THE STAR MEANT UNTIL NOW!!!
Imagine if a game like Civilization came out and they just decided to not included the Civlopedia and said "here ya go, figure it out." games are supposed to be fun, not frustrating... especially when the frustration comes from not being given basic information needed to play the game!
dude thank you so much
No Problem! it's not an exhaustive guide, by any means, but hopefully it can get you going the right direction!
Thank you
I did like it way better in Disgaea 1 Complete.
Best wishes for your health.
this game is too complex turn base rpg ive played coming from a guy who finish both disgae 1 and 2
Nun of this shit makes sense how do I subdue it there isn’t a subdue button you just said subdue it also this game I have doesn’t even have a farm
