  • This video is purely presenting my day to day experience in using both grinders.
    If you already have one please do not feel discourage, as this is not to change your mind.
    I also do not get paid by any of the producer.
    If you are considering to buy a coffee grinder, the one that last a long time this is probably suitable for you.

    Additional Notes:
    So sorry i accidentaly deleted my first uploaded video. Someone was asking if i should have cleaned them first to test but i thin in real life scenario nobody do that, we basically hopping that old coffee grounds had filled all vacant space inside and what ever comes out should only fresh ground coffee.

    another outstanding video! I wish you would have made this 2 weeks ago! I just bought the specialita! But, I got it as a refurb for $500...in chrome no less, so that was a $279 savings.. and I am picking up a VIctoria next week, based on another of your reviews. so since Its only for me at home, I will keep it. Great work again my friend. :)

    What you are measuring is consistency. It is not retention.
    Retention as it pertains to single dosing means how much coffee is left in the grinder after the hoppe is emptied.
    In order to measure retention, you have to clean out the grinder, not just make the burrs go until no more comes out.
    If after the coffee stops coming out there is still 2 grams or even 10 grams left, that would have a pretty hefty impact if you only 2 cups per day.
    I do appreciate the effort to make the video, but I was trying to comparisons between these two, so would have liked to know the answer.

      Hi yes my experiment was not exactly accurate and proper, but atleast you the idea that if i grind 20g but only get 19g that means 1g is missing.

    • @PeterGfromSVK
      @PeterGfromSVK Рік тому

      @@StefanusGoana Like mentioned above, if you want to measure real total retention, you have to vacuum clean entire grinder spaces (grinding chamber, space between burrs, outpur chute, ...), so that no old coffee remains inside, then to grind exact amount of coffee (e.g. 20g) and weight the output. Total retention is the difference. You should do it just once, or vacuum clean the grinder again before doing another measurement. I would bet the real retention is in grams, not in tenths, like in the video.

    Lelit is great grinder when you are using still the same dark roasted coffee. I have pl71 few years and looking for a good replacement due to big inconsistency of lelit when single dosing. Even I am not switching the coffee and use 500g bags until its finished.

    Hi Stefanus, greetings from Italy! :)
    You did a great comparison and point out some very useful aspects of both grinders.
    IMHO the Mignon Specialità is a little overrated. Those clumps are common among Specilità owners (as well as in all Mignon 55mm line)
    and honestly it's not something I would like from my grinder, despite it can be fixed afterward using WDT.
    Now, what about the grind out of the PL72? I'm very surprised of such quality, consistent and clump-free!
    I don't understand why it's not mentioned on most reviews out there, everywhere are just Mignon Specialità as the best on-demand grinder
    for the price tag, and that's not true.
    Anyway, what put me apart from the Lelit PL72 is the awfull external design, but most important, the stepped adjustment wheel! that is also clumsy
    and made of cheap plastic! Seriously? Come on...
    Stephanus, I'm still waiting for the stepless modification on this one! ;)
    Have a nice day and keep up the good work, this channel rocks!

      Hey, I share your thought.. I was going to buy the Specialita because of its design, build quality and ground quality.. I noticed the clumps as well though. The quality of the coffee grounds on the PL72 looks much better.. I hate the design though.. also as you mentioned I don’t like the fact that it’s a stepped grinder. Do you have any suggestions for a alternative grinder that would fit my needs in the price range of a used Specialita?

    I have some additional findings as the user of the Lelit William:
    1. There is no way to remove the bean hopper like the Eureka. Assuming I have a different type of beans I want to use, emptying the hopper can be quite tricky
    2. Using the grinder for coarser grinds is very challenging. The knob for grind size adjustments is numbered. However, you would think that you are allowed to choose those settings.. 1 for finest, 9 for coarsest, BUT you are allowed to turn beyond those set points. If I turn counter clockwise, number goes from 1, 2, 3...... up to 9.. and if i turn more, it will eventually end back at 1, but it is actually like, 9+1? Hence, the next person using the grinder may NOT actually know whether it is grind setting 1, or 9+1... Really weird.

    • @StefanusGoana
      @StefanusGoana  3 роки тому

      1. Totally agree, it can't be removed.
      2. You actually pointing out that it is truly super micro changes in every number because 360 degree still too fine for french press, however i reallise Niche Zero as well i need to turn it all the way 360 degree for my cupping grind setting.
      Cleaning certainly require more effort i will explain in my next video

    Hi Stefanus, have been looking at and enjoying quite a few of your videos and I noticed that you mentioned being a re-seller for Lelit products. I wondered if you can tell me what the difference is between the Lelit William PL72 and the newer PL72-P model? All I can see is that the PL72-P has a polished steel outer case (which is probably what the P stands for!) - but are there any other differences in how it performs or it’s specification? Would really appreciate your input. Thanks 👍

    Hi, thanks for this video. I would like to ask you: how do you evaluate the size of the grind using the "mignon" for single doses? Let me explain: have you noticed if sometimes it grinds grains with different sizes or is it very stable in terms of grain size? I ask you this, because I noticed that my lelit coffee grinder (pl72) every time gives a grind that seems different, sometimes it is too fine (over extracted) other times it is good ... this happens when I use it with a single dose. Your opinion on the eureka mignon, with the single dose setup?

    • @StefanusGoana
      @StefanusGoana  3 роки тому

      Hi interesting so far i don't see that extreme different. Mainly different size may contributed by the extreme popcorn effect and wear off. You might also want to look for unimodal burr which is design to produce perfectly uniform result. Our burrs are meant for espresso and it supposed to produce various different size to aim for complexity in our espresso.

    • @esbenrasmussen4289
      @esbenrasmussen4289 2 роки тому

      Do you weigh your coffee after grinding? All grinders will have some retention. I use bellows to blow out remainders, but still can vary by 0.5 gram.
      I am thinking about the weight, because it would be difficult to determine the grind size from each batch. Unless you actually use a microscope or a calibrated sift

    • @StefanusGoana
      @StefanusGoana  3 роки тому +1

      LOL i knw what you mean. for me i assume every grinder even NZ will have empty space around the system and so we need to let coffee fill that area then we hope fresh coffee will flow through it. The old coffee grounds will stay in that empty chamber. And really this is a practical way of a real scenario of our day to day

    Thanks for the video.
    I own the Specialita for about 8 months now. I started noticing problems with it when I opened it to clean it. First I thought it was the misalignment and I fixed it but even now, I can only get my 20-25 second extraction when the burrs are touching each other. No one talked about this on UA-cam and I don't know if that's normal or not. Where do you get your sweet spot?
    The local dealer won't look at it as long as it's still grinding and running. So that's useless.
