    I lived in Phoenix for 3 years. I loved going to Sedona. I moved back to my home in Kentucky and married my childhood sweetheart. Sedona is the first out of town date I took her on. Thankyou for the memories.

    Living beneath Cathedral Rock I see people getting rescued due to falls (occasionally) and dehydration (frequently) - don't take it lightly when the signs at trailheads like Devils Bridge say to bring one gallon of water per person. The elevation and desert climate are very different than hiking elsewhere, so start with easier hikes until you know your body is acclimated.
    Timing is everything in Sedona. Spring and fall are busy but spectacular, summer can be brutally hot, but winter is quite amazing in that there are plenty of sunny days in the 50s and 60s. And if you happen to be around when it snowson the red rocks, you'll be awestruck.
    Weekends are busier than weekdays, and earlier is better than later for driving, dining or hiking. The 20 minute drive can become 45 minutes between the Village of Oak Creek and Sedona proper when it's busy, so check traffic before you go if you have reservations for anything.
    It's really sad I need to say this, but when visiting Sedona, please have respect for nature and the places you visit here. In the short time I've lived here I've seen loads of trash and graffiti appearing in places like the indian ruins, people pick flowers and rocks to take with from everywhere, and loud, rude people climb on walls and statues and move sacred items around in religious spaces to take pictures/videos for their social media accounts. Please DON'T!

      @cre8tivity06 Рік тому

      Thanks for the local perspective. Sadly for me I’ll be heading there on a weekend in May so I’ll have to deal with the traffic and all. Any easy hikes you could recommend? I don’t have to be at the most popular place is either. Thanks!

    • @cre8tivity06
      @cre8tivity06 Рік тому

      Also what will the weather be like (usually) in late May? If it’s warm/hot, is it cooler at night? What is there to do if it rains? I heard restaurants and stores close early there is that true? Is there any kind of nightlife?

    • @kathionthenet548
      @kathionthenet548 Рік тому

      @@cre8tivity06 There are a handful of music venues, but nightlife isn't what people come here for. Flagstaff is a college town, so it's probably your best bet at about 45-60 minutes away.

    • @kathionthenet548
      @kathionthenet548 Рік тому

      @@cre8tivity06 It's usually 30ish degrees cooler at night that time of year. And we have found it's truly a rare occasion where we've needed alternate plans due to weather, but if it's more than just a passing shower the rain can produce some amazing waterfalls off the rocks. Just know if you climb to get closer, those rocks get really slippery.

    I have lived in Phoenix for 29 years and Sedona is one of my favorite places and I go all the time. You taught me so much and I can’t wait to plan another trip. Except I usually go on the weekends. Busy time right now! One place I can recommend to you is West Fork Trail. You will actually walk along Oak Creek. Very shaded and so beautiful. Must get there early due to minimal parking. Looking forward to adding a few of these to my next adventure.

    I enjoyed this video. Appropriate length in order to cover the content well, and the trail tips (actually hiking them and measuring the distance compared with All Trails description) is helpful and appreciated. Also helpful was describing the trails as slippery and just being honest if a trail is risky/dangerous (i.e. the Subway Cave).

    I was going to say I'm surprised you didn't mention Wet Beaver Creek, but I looked it up and that's not technically in Sedona (though it's very close). It's worth a visit, basically a multiple hours-long hike up these red rock paths that leads you to this pond-like area with rocks you can jump from into it, when I went there were tons of people there just chilling. And I mean it when I say "chilling" because the water was cold, lol. Very nice after being scorched in the sun.

    I spent a week staying in Flagstaff(cheaper rates) and visiting Sedona around Easter one year. One thing I didn't hear you say was the huge difference in energy between the outdoor sites and the in-town sites(e.g. shops, etc.), despite what you say about so-called environment-savvy building. Maybe they should have consulted an energy expert.

      Miguel, thanks for the nice comment. We do half and half - use an app and use Google Maps satellite view. The indispensable app for vanlife is iOverlander. We usually start with that. Then if there’s nothing good in our area we look at satellite view to identify out of the way secluded spots. Especially in National Forests. We also just cruise around looking for a spot that looks safe and quite if we’re in or near a town. Last night, by cruising, we found a large abandoned Burger King parking lot next to a big truck stop with a lot of trucks overnighting. Totally cool.
