Hi Geoff. Apologies for the very late reply! Thank you for nominating me and the shout out. Much appreciated. I have been giving this some thought over the last few days and you're right that it's tough. It seems like every category can be answered in multiple ways, really makes you think 👍 Also, nice to see some love for Ancnoc 12. A very underrated dram that does well for the low strength. Got to love Ancnoc. Cheers and I'll whip up my list soon 🥃

    Great selection Geoff...
Well last year we did it with a group of friends and if I'm not mistaken my selection was
1 - Daily sipper: Bunna Stuireadair
2 - Impress your guest: C.B. Spice Tree
3 - Mixer: Hankey Bannister Heritage Blend
4 - Friday night sipper: C.B. Peat Monster
    5 - Special occasion: Glencadam 21
How would it be this year? Nothing too fancy, given that here the offer is not so wide, so it would be more or less like this:
    1 - Daily sipper: Bunna 12 | Talisker 10
2 - Impress your guest: C.B. Spice Tree | Glen Scotia Victoriana
3 - Mixer: Monkey Shoulder | Cutty Sark Prohibition
    4 - Friday night sipper: C.B. Peat Monster | Port Charlote 10
    5 - Special occasion: Glencadam 21 | Ledaig 18
    Excellent video. Cheers

@@Gwhisky and as you explicitely asked for viewer choices...
Daily dram: going with you ... for both the options
      Impressing: AnCnoc 24yo
Mixing: I limited myself to only sipp Scotch and I never (as in: never!) mix my whisky, so it must be something non Scotch. Pick any bourbon.
Friday night: a great moment to try something new and taste it through an through. And as I do have quite a few samples.... friday night samples it will be. I know that's cheating, so if I need to name a specific whisky: I have not had any less than great SMWS Caol Ila. Stunning Friday night drams.
Special occasions .... er.... that means for me I have to sipp it in the warehouse where it's been maturing, preferably with some good company. Would love to take those people to Warehouse 9 (Bunnahabhain) and have a dram straight from the cask.

I'm laughing here. I'm with you. I'd prolly do the same. This is a great video and I think you just solidified my "next step up" buy. I'm very, very happy with my find in Benromach 15 (I bought my first 'backup bottle yesterday) and am looking at 'upping the ante' for my coming 'big zero' birthday (70). I've generated a short list of possibles, and the HP18 was there because the whole peat thing with me started with HP Einar. I'm guessing I'll put out for the Signet AND the HP18. I keep bottles of JWBlack and J&B for mixers (I'd like to step up to JWDoubleBlack). Alternately, those acquisitions determined to be less than expected may well end up being mixer fodder. Benny15 is my Friday night/weekend pour, Bunnahabhain 12 is a good pinch hitter. Auchentoshan Three Wood and Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban for 'daily pours'. I've Glen Scotia 15 and Lagavulin 16 to impress the guests. For the time being, one of those will have to serve for 'special occasions', but, as noted, I'm working on that.
I'm fairly sure I keep coming back to you for my review source as I perceive your tastes to be fairly similar to mine. I love your set of suggestions.

I've noticed that a few UA-camrs have taken this up. It got me thinking about what I would do with this. Since I like all kinds of whisky and don't specialize in just one, it is difficult. Also, I would tend to regard impress your guest, Friday night sipper, and special occasion to have a great deal of overlap. I also don't make many mixed drinks. When I want a mixed drink, I typically go to a bar. Bartenders have easy access to a lot of mixing ingredients that are perishable and not practical to keep around the house, and they are a lot more experienced than I am and always do a better job. The only mixed drinks I make on a regular basis are caipirinhas, whisky sours, Manhattans, and martinis. For a mixer whisky, the whisky sour determines my choice since the Manhattan calls for something that at least qualifies as a daily sipper.
Here are my choices. I decided to limit my choices to whiskies that happen to be in my collection currently. I'll add three honorable mentions, two whiskies and one other type of spirit. Since I like all kinds of spirits, it makes sense to consider some other options.
Daily sipper: I interpret this as being reasonably affordable, easy to find, and versatile in food pairing. Deanston 12-year. I like this one because it is complex enough to enjoy on its own, and it is also extremely food friendly. Honorable mentions: Old Forester 1897 bourbon (also very food friendly), Sagamore double oak rye (good pairing with richer foods such as barbecue), and Barbancourt 8-year rum (an inexpensive, easy drinking, food friendly rum).
Impress your guest: I interpret this category as something off the beaten path but not too challenging, and it should work with food pairing. Redwood Empire "Grizzly Beast" bottled in bond bourbon. It is somewhat similar to Old Forester 1897, so it is suitable for inexperienced and experienced whisky drinkers alike, but it seems more complex when paired with food. It is from Sonoma, which isn't exactly well known bourbon territory. Honorable mentions: Gouden Carolus Anker cask single malt (from Belgium, distilled from the same mash bill as their beer - unique flavor but very approachable), Abasolo corn whisky (from Mexico - lightly aged, somewhat reminiscent of a reposado tequila), and La Higuera sotol (a clear spirit with mineral notes, made from the desert spoon plant in northern Mexico).
Mixer (or rocks pour): This one is easy: Jack Daniel's Old No. 7. I find that it goes well in a sour with Meyer lemons, which I have in abundance because I have access to a very productive tree. Other useful mixers: Suntory Toki (a versatile mixer and good on the rocks), Bulleit rye (makes a good sour if I want a little different flavor, and good in a Manhattan), and Bombay gin (my standard for a martini, and also good with Meyer lemons).
Friday night sipper: I interpret this as being something challenging that I might want to spend some time with. Pacific Coast Spirits single barrel triticale bourbon, aged 5 years 10 months. This is a cask strength monster from southern California that is loaded with flavor and wood. It's an interesting bourbon but not for the faint of heart. Honorable mentions: Ledaig 18-year (a complex peat monster), Alberta Premium cask strength rye (a potent monster, and 100% rye - good for experimenting with finding the ideal proof, and suitable for a Manhattan), and Kweichow Moutai (the infamous Chinese firewater, vomit-inducing for those who haven't acquired a taste for it but beautifully complex for those who have learned to appreciate its unique character).
Special occasion: These would be fancy, rare, or otherwise interesting bottles in my collection that might have a reasonably broad appeal to experienced drinkers. Douglas Laing's Old Particular Glen Grant 25-year. This is a nice independent bottling of Glen Grant that is loaded with complexity but is approachable for even an inexperienced whisky drinker. Honorable mentions: Whistle Pig 12-year rye - BevMo blend (a complex but easy-drinking rye - I don't have the 15, 18, or Boss Hog, but this one is very good), Starward Octave Barrels single malt (a special release from Australia, matured in Yalumba wine barrels - a good choice for wine drinkers), and Diplomatico 2005 vintage rum (a complex rum aged 12 years in used whisky casks and an additional year in sherry casks - a good rum for whisky drinkers).
Wild card: Mellow Corn. This cult favorite has to be included somehow, but it doesn't fit neatly into any of the categories, as it has many uses. It works well as a mixer, it is good to sip neat, and it could impress guests. After all, how could the cheapest whisky in my collection possibly be this good?

Fun list. I appreciate that you cheated since it gives me an excuse to cheat too. I'm going to do two lists.
    First the scotch list:
Daily Sipper: Old Pulteney 12 - super affordable in Washington, unlike so many others
Impress a Friend: Compass Box Orchard House - fun to talk about blending single malts
Mixer: Laphraoig 10 - I do like a smoky cocktail
    Friday Dram: AnCnoc 18
Special Occasion: I don't really have one as I haven't yet bought something I'm super precious with
Now to cheat with an American list:
Daily Sipper: Eagle Rare 10 - amazing how cheap you can get this for how good it is
Impress a Friend: New Riff Single Barrel Bourbon - fantastic new distillery in KY, also relatively affordable
Mixer: Rittenhouse Rye - good on its own so great in so many cocktails
Friday Dram: any Westland American Single Malt Single Cask - my local distillery so I'm a bit of a fanboy
Special Occasion: Old Carter Straight Bourbon - it's all MGP, but it's ridiculously amazing - and unfortunately really hard to find

I picked the Balblair 12 because it just has that soft, gentle malty tones that you can either muse over or just sip it while you read a book or watch a show. Definitely give it a try. Also a fantastic "flight starter" for the evening.

Not quality (necessarily) or universal appeal.

Hi, first of all, interesting list. May i give some advice about camera/light setup: Your camera seems to have a lot of noise here, maybe not enough light? or cheap camera or lens? You seem to have 2-3 Light spots, The one shining from the top is too bright, your hair is flashy but your face gets a shadow. Your front should be evenly lid and your hair shouldnt shine above it. Maybe your 2 spots from the front/sides are too far away or too low to compete with the light from above. if you cant really change the setup, for whatever reason, you could try have a diffuser on your top light (white plastic cloth or so, that lets light through but block some of it), and then set the 2 front lights up so its bright enough for your camera :)

The best is, it's always a list "currently". Cheers! 🥃🥃

Hah that Laphroaig 30 sounds incredible! Can't say I've ever tried the Hibiki 21, although I enjoyed the 12 and 17. Laphroaig 10 is a great mixer.
Can't tell you how much I'm enjoying that Talisker btw. Quite a few familiar bottles for you on this list! Cheers buddy! 🥃

Hah, we should have more special occasion.🥃🥃 That's great you enjoy the Talisker! Which do you like more? Tali or Laph? BTW, the sherry solist...still can't beat the bourbon one, but that just because sherry bomb is a type I'm still learning to appreciate.

Oh damn. That is hard. For me there’s quite a bit of whisky in my stash that I haven’t opened yet. So I don’t think I can make a definitive one.
Budget pick: well, it’s now gone but when it was around and for the price ($50) Bladnoch 10 (200 yr edition).
Daily sipper: Craigellachie 13 is a great one. Honestly though that could be so many different ones. Picked that one for overall availability and “reachability”. Oban 14 comes to mind but nobody talks about that one.
Mixer… eh. Well I don’t mix but back in the day I loved 15yr Pinch with Canada Dry and a few ice cubes.
Special occasion. I must shamefully admit that a lot of my most expensive stuff I haven’t had yet tbh. Example: Old Pulteney 21 or HP 21 , Bunnahabhain Moine Bordeaux 2018 and some discontinued stuff or even Bunnahabhain 18. So idk why I do this. Worried I’ll never be able to afford them again idk. So I’ll say for special: Glendronach 15 or 18 (Billy Walkers).
Impress guests? Um. JW blue. Lol. So many non serious drinkers are impressed by that.
Was there another category? Don’t remember. I’ll make it up. Peated: hmmm. Again I haven’t had many peated scotches in my own stash so.. but so far Laphroaig 18. A good Lagavulin 16 could do also:
How about briny category? I’d say Oban 14 or Kilkerran 12.
Cask strength ? Springbank 12 Laphroaig 10 Hmmm. Yeah these lists are never complete.

Bladnoch 10 would likely be a great pick if it was still around. Oban 14 is great, too. BW Glendronachs? Excellent. JW Blue for the amateurs... why not? Hah good picks for the made up categories too. A man of taste, you are. 🥃

@@Gwhisky btw I’ve never had a 25 yr old whisky. Oldest I’ve had was a sample of 23 yr old Alexander Murray Allt-a-Bhainne. Sadly I didn’t buy it despite being very good. Instead that day I bought an Old Pulteney 17 and Springbank 10. Didn’t buy it because I didn’t know the brand. Silly me. It was really good and priced fairly. I think it was @$120.
I think I’d pick that bottle over those two if I could go back in time. However I find I still have a hard time spending money on unfamiliar brands. 🤷🏻‍♂️
      (I still have 2 more 17yr OP along w 2 OP21).

Woo hoo! I got one of the last Benromach 15 years in my area so that may be moved to special occasion. love the jokes here. Also if you got divorced but the ex wife got the better of it and you have to paid child support your celebratory bottle might be that Craigellachie 13 year. ha ha
