My grandfather, Kurt Diercks, owned and operated the Claybank store, depot and post office from 1899 - 1904 so I have always been interested in the history of the area. I enjoy all of your railroad history videos. Well done!
Im familiar with the area, very interesting and good finds. Thank you!
Any idea when the last train went through or when the rails were removed? Your passion, knowledge, and enthusiasm, for rail history is evident in each and every video and therefore a pleasure and enjoyable to watch! Thank you!
Hello my friend! Good to see you!
Very cool Anthony. I've tried to follow the grade between Hay Creek and Clay Bank on Google Maps many times, but never noticed the trestle pilings until your video. I hope you can get permission to walk the entire route. However, this is the section of the grade where the landowners refused to allow the Goodhue Pioneer bike trail to be built. (There is 5 miles of trail out of Zumbrota and 5 miles of trail out of Red Wing, then a bridge to nowhere. The DNR has given up. I've heard that one of the landowners even wrote into their will never to sell to the DNR--what a sad bitter person he must be.)
Hopefully you can get permission to complete the story of the Duluth Red Wing and Southern.
