Thanks Matt really enjoyed your Chod tuition. I just wanted to ask a simple but important question, when would you revert from a chod presentation to a hing stiff please? Would it be when you have low laying silk/onion weed or would you just shorten the chod section? Hope it don’t sound to daft but I fish a water which can be really tricky in the spring actually most time of the year lol… Many Thanks Naz
Hi Naz. If it's clean and I'm fishing a spread of boilie I usually a hinge. I tie my hinges with a braided boom, albrighted to the stiff srction, which allows me to fish it lower if I think I need a slightly more subtle presentation. Range would be another consideration. If I have to use a big lead to get the distance I'm likely to favour a hinge. I hope that helps.
@ thank you Matt for taking time to reply to my question. Been using your chod set up for a little while now and had some good fish on it. My hinge set up is very similar to yours as well as I incorporate a supple boom section to bristle filament so interesting enough it’s the same setup, not that I’m copying you lol 😂
Superb video…..anything Matt does is top notch. Some proper info in this one….not just the usual ‘look at what I’ve caught’ dross….bravo Gardner & Matt 👏👏
I love my Chod fishing and use it a fair bit.I’ve picked up some good tips like an overhand loop at the end of the Chod section is a good call.also the extra foot at the end of the leadcore is something I’m going to try thanks great vid.👍
Brilliant video, as others have said, no stupid rave/drum and base crap, just nature and some calming music, mint common btw, cracking advice I'll be putting into my fishing, very cool angler, tight lines, good health and safe travels, cheers craig
Great video! I was wondering wich boilie u use as free offering. I saw Mainline pop-ups. Are u feeding cell with the Mainline pop-ups?? Greetz From Holland! Mark
Hi Mark Yes 15mm Cell freebies. I'm happy to mix it up with the hookbait. White Cell, Yellow Pineapple Juice or match the hatch but nearly always Cell in the stick or catapult. Glad you enjoyed the film.
Little tip for everyone, when you need some extra distance. Keep your 1oz zip leads on (ideally textured leads) wrap some paste around it in the shape of a distance lead. Can easily make it 2 or 3 oz and punch it 100 yrds and be left with a 1oz out there when it breaks down
@@matteaton7427hope it serves you well one day, also another note. If you leave a swivel exposed at lead then yes it can shake around as you demonstrated. If you get a tight heli buffer sleeve, cut off the lead swivel it gives the lead far less “shakeability”. To this day I’ve still never lost a fish on a choddy even without your extended lead material length
@@Kb11466 Yes, I did fish it that way when I started using chods and it does keep the lead more under control. That said I do prefer it further away from the rig as the extension does dampen it's effect further and to ensure the lead can't come into contact with the fish. Adding the extension also gives me an extra foot on my overall leader length so saves me having to tie on a longer leader, which I prefer for chod fishing. Maybe a combination of both aspects might be even better.
Fair mate, thanks for the video and tips. I forgot to mention re using light leads. You can also drop the lead inside some funnel mesh and fill it with whatever you like. Then poke the lead ring out of the mesh and clip on. Doing this with maggots and casters currently, with a Medusa type bait on rig. Working a treat
It's just an alternative to using wrap sticks. I cast out and feel the lead down onto what seems like a good drop. I then count the turns as I reel in. Let's say it's 65 turns. I then cast around and find another spot at 40 turns. When it comes to casting rigs out I can a) backwind down the bank and clip up at the required number of turns b) backwind round wrap sticks c) cast out to the approx range (it's nearly always within a couple or 3 turns), clip up and adjust on the next cast. Once I've got it right I tie a line marker. Basically, whereas with wrapping sticks you'd clip up, reel in and wrap it out to find the distance, with this method I clip up, count the turns as I reel in and multiply by the amount of line each turn retrieves (2.5ft for my Tournaments). If I catch I can make a note of the number of turns to use on subsequent trips. Hope that helps Luke.
No worries Andy - I'll explain. I cast out and feel the lead down onto what seems like a good drop. I then count the turns as I reel in. Let's say it's 65 turns. Can you explain how counting the real turns gets you back out to the same spot 🤔

I still don't understand how counting the reel turns can give u the distance. Do I back wind to get the distance. Surely u just get a massive tangle.

You're welcome mate. Glad you enjoyed the video. 😀
Nice to watch a carpy vid without all that shitty techno music over the top. Brilliant 👏👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it Adam. 😀
