You’re probably gonna think I’m mental, but that’s EXACTLY what he was after!! I have 2 terrapins who are my absolute babies. I love them so much it’s ridiculous. And Olaf, my beautiful boy can sit and sleep for HOURS while doing that for him. 🏴🐢🫶🏻💚🐢🫶🏻💚🏴
My young slider used to climb on my head and march back and forth thru my hair digging his little claws in. Stung, but I wouldnt stop him for the world! That guy is so special.
I wonder if Otis is just being tactical. "Let Dad think that I'm just looking at his eyes." "When he least expects it .. " Nose Chomp!!! 😂 I love Otis!! 😍
Your interaction with Otis is a marvel and lovely to watch. My res girls do that when I call them. Turn into long necks and follow me in their tank. Keep rescuing, educating, and sharing. Have a great day!!!!
I also have a RES girl. And man, it's so cool how much they understand. I could call her name from across the room and she'll look up long-neck style like, "you talking about me?" lol
Otis is so beautiful. I think he wants to smell and touch your hair. My boxie likes pawing through my hair. See what he does if you let him touch your hair. It's like a scalp massage. LOL!
How can people "still" refer to animals as being dumb. This little guy undoubtedly loves you! It's so cute how he keeps reaching up to you w/ his arms. Thanks for sharing Otis!
@@Nathan-oe8ut I was NOT comparing human intelligence to this tortoise or any other animal for that matter. Therefore, the basis of your reply can be taken two ways. The first would be to straight up compare human intelligence to individual animals (to which there are tens of thousands of "different species" to compare with alone let alone individual animals within any given species). And overall we as humans smugly claim we're superior because we can "reason". And the second, we can determine IQ, which (at least till the present time) we cannot do w/ other species. However, since 2016, both these points prove highly questionable.......
Reptiles get this especially bad, non avian reptiles anyways. Crocodilians are more closely related to birds then to other reptiles, they are also great mothers and very intelligent animals. Monitor lizards especially are very smart, they have keen intuition and are very trainable. They also demand respect though and can tell when you are scared of them, when you are scared of a monitor lizard they get nervous because of it since fear implies you may try to harm it. Human minds arent even strictly superior to animals though, pigeons score better on probability puzzles like the monty hall problem. Chimpanzees have way better short term and long term memory then humans as well, its actually thought that we sacrificed some of our memory for language comprehension. Overall there is not a single characteristic unique to humans, our abilities are always a difference in degree rather then kind and also I think we underestimate the importance of the form an animal takes. No matter how smart whales are they dont got hands, even birds lack hands and are small. Humans arent even outclassed by other animals physically, we are the best at throwing in the animal kingdom and arguably the best long distance runners. Humans evolved the ability to walk upright long before we became any smarter then other apes so its obvious this body plan has had a huge impact. Overall I have my doubts we are even the smartest animal, whales couldnt make a civilization no matter how smart they are and remember humans lived like animals for hundreds of thousands of years even with hands. Took us millennia to become civilization capable.
I had a box turtle that did this, was always fixated on my face some reason. He didn’t bite tho…or she..now that i think about it i have no idea if it was male or not
That is just wonderfully special ! Man communicating with what have become rare for Our Inconsiderations! a little tortoise and cute as he declares his little Personhood !!
Hi Chris ❤Otis He is so beautiful, and has such a wonderful personality. He is so special, and one of a kind. Love when the two of you are together. Cindy
I don't know what is MORE endearing. A cute interactive turtle with so.much personality... OR, a full grown bearded man finding his inner childhood with his beautiful turtle. ❤
What I love is that despite the fact that Otis is an exemplary and astonishing example of it, personable and engaging turtles or other reptiles is not apparently all that rare. Why is it that in my 54 years of life, this wasn't talked about all along? What changed for people to stop saying stupid things like we were personifying them? It may be difficult to discern exactly what Otis is trying to communicate here, but it's not a whole pile of cold-hearted nothing and as a matter of fact is apparently quite the opposite. Given time the personal relationship between them will make some of those details clear just like in any relationship between two people who meet not knowing the entire same language. It does seem undeniable though that certain things are universal.
Come er, ya got a hair out a place on the left eyebrow lmao 🤣🤣🤣 stay still human I'm try to help here, psych bit your nose again lol.Too cute, and amazing how much personality he has and smarts. Always makes me smile.
Otis is like a character straight out of a movie. He has so much personality which every turtle does, but his is so peculiar it’s like Tortoiseshell cat’s tortitude equivalent for turtles :)
I think that neck scratching was exactly what he was asking for : )
