Then you must thank Telê Santana, Telê picked Cafu as a young midfielder that couldnt make a lofted pass, and in São Paulo he made Cafu a beast personally teaching him how to pass, and adapting him to be a fullback. Telê's São Paulo won the Club World Cup back to back in 1992 (against Barça) and 1993 (Against Milan) with Cafu being in the starting XI on both squads, I strongly recomend watching both games as they are just magnificent pieces of football
What a beautiful team ..Elegance , Tenacity, Pace ,Power , Passing quality , Shooting quality from outside and inside the box , Ball players and Ball winners at the back and in midfield ..It's just a perfectly balanced XI
I'd say Maldini would captain the team, less problematic, more respected and a great mentor for the younger teammates. My guess would be that Keane would not take the armband himself and only be vice captain.
I would have given everything to see Seedorf play in the prem. Both him and Scholes are such underrated players that made the game look so easy. He’s also the most valuable Dutch player of all time. Unreal.
Roy Keane a fantastic footballer and a great man as well . All the time he is on tv a listen what he has to say . I think he needs more space in tv to talk his mind .
Best One2Eleven so far imho. I like the way he stresses attacking football from a defender's point of view. He could pick a 2nd One2Eleven who would still be world beaters. And as for picking himself- damn right.
This is a fantastic team, on paper it may not be the absolute best position by position(close though), but you also have to consider how the players interact and mesh together on the pitch as well as how you want the team to play, what philosophy you want to implement, and this team is probably one of the best meshing teams I've ever seen. Would beat an all-time XI just off chemistry and connectivity.
As an Arsenal fan, Stam was the one player I dreamed would play for Arsenal. When we came up against Utd I would always hope he wasn't playing, it was so hard to get past him.
I was born and raised outside of Manchester and he does not sound like someone born and raised there at all. His English is good for a foreigner, I have never disputed that. All those towns in the Northwest have different accents. If you are from there you can hear it.
As a lifelong United supporter, I agree with Stam's selection. The only thing missing from those types of fantasy teams/ best ever XI is .. another XI in front (plus 2 managers, and at least 3 substitutes for each side).
Actually this is football the defense might be the greatest defense that ever exist in world football it's a shame how Liverpool can made a comeback against us in 2005 Istanbul
a really really really good team that. very well balanced, great tacticians in midfield, good enough pace on both flanks, physically strong at the back, massive techniques at the front. wow
KAKA is not even in 'not in it' list, so u can easily say what kind of quality players did he choose. Almost all of them like Giggs, Scholes, Zeedorf, Nesta, Cafu, Maldini played almost two decades on the same level and won everything they could win. Legends everywhere. Jaap Stam was a great player and he was lucky to have amazing teammates around him as well.

Scholes was not a very "English" midfielder. Lampard and Gerrard were more traditional English midfielders. I've always said that Scholes would have suited 2008-2012 Barcelona perfectly, but he was already about 10 years too old by then.
The 2005 milan team that lost the ucl final were justt as good, basicallu this team but with pirlo, kaka, shevvhenko and crespo. They still lost the ucl final and lost the seria a title on the last day of the season.

Great, very balance and realistic team..the only difference that i have would be the system..i might go with ancelotti tactic (4-3-2-1) instead 4 3 3..kaka/rooney + bergkamp to roam freely and ronaldo as target man..bergkamp is essential to accompany true goalgetter..
This is the perfect team it seems, can easily switch into a 3-5-2 with Cafu and Giggs kind of wing-backs and remember Keane can always cover right side defensively if needed if Maldini shifts the back three to the left when Cafu/Giggs pressing on (/Bergkamp dropping off / Seedorf dropping in)
Solid team. Take out Scholes and Giggs, and out in Pirlo and Kaka and you have the perfect team. You could also take out Bergkamp, who Jaap only picked because he's Dutch, and replace him with Shevchenko while you're at it. Now, we're talking.
