The two best no additive soy milks are Westlife, unsweetened, plain, soy milk, which can usually be found at Walmart or any other grocery store in their room temperature plant milk section and Trader Joe's Soy Beverage. Both are excellent and the only ingredients are soy beans and water. I hope that helps. :) You can also request that your local grocery store carry Products for you if you can't find something there. You just have to speak to a manager and they are always happy to carry products that their customers want to purchase.

Soymilk tip - I use West Life Organic Unsweetened Soymilk. No gums, no fillers. This is the complete ingredients list - water, organic soybeans. That's it. I'm able to buy it at my local Walmart.

I buy Malk almond milk. The ingredients are clean, too. Filtered water, organic almonds, pink salt. I’ll remember West Life. It’s hard sometimes to find clean ingredients.

This is what I use to make yogurt in my instant pot. Tofu yogurt is not the same-the flavor of the fermentation process can’t be replaced by lemon juice.

West Soy, Trader Joe's are both clean ingredients. Soy and water. That's it. And I've even found West Soy at the Dollar Tree.

TVP and Soy Curl Tip: After soaking and draining, squeeze out as much excess water as possible. Then season and cook as you desire. In my opinion, it creates a better finishing texture.

So tip about your non stick pan. Do not wash while hot because it will ruin the coating. Do not use high heat on non stick, medium is the most. I like the German made Ozeri pans. It’s a good product. No non stick lasts forever and mine usually last for 2 years. I recycle the old ones and replace with the same brand.

  • @Superfatcat2525

Love these tips. 1 tip for you is your pan should be cooled first then soak. The nonstick coating doesn’t like to go from super hot to cold water. It ruins the coating.

Trader Joe’s has the best soy milk! I live about 25 minutes from one so I don’t go super often. When I go I call ahead and have them set aside a case of soy milk for me. I love that it’s shelf stable and only 2 ingredients and cheaper than most other soy milks!

Compare quality, taste, nutritional value and ethics of Eden Soy Milk Vs suspect products of Traitor Joe's.
Eg both consumer reports and as you sow rated chocolates on their content of heavy metals and many of the worst ones are sold at trader Joe's and Traitor Joe's will flat out say they're safe otherwise they wouldn't sell them but they will not provide any information or studies. the worst rated chocolate deserve The proposition 65 warning of California. The processed food industry is doing all it can to make sure no other state uses this mild necessary California statute.
basically trader Joe's is making it easier to eliminate yourself slowly. Less than 10% of what they sell is worth buying probably.
Look into the state of Chile and Peru and wonder why so much of the produce comes from there or Mexico.
Any farmer's market or any market that focuses on produce that is organic will offer you an better localized seasonal value than the nearly flavorless minimally appealing socially globally unfair produce of TJs. I assure you that the country's supplying the US with this produce make it unaffordable locally over there for too many people. But TJs only cares if it sells it seems this way they are basically WalMart Costco. Notoriously stingy margins afforded to the producers or suppliers and pushing slave like labor to produce their packaged fresh ready to eat. Aldi Bros have a notorious reputation in Germany for wiping out local competition. Traitor Joes is rooted in their ethos.
They work their overeducated underpaid staff like ants or slaves. their clientele is similarly overeducated and undercompensated. no doubt about it the labrador retriever golden retriever labradoodle mentality of the staff is quite welcoming but it covers up the reality of massive invasive corporations like this. customers feel good about the company because of the nice people that they interface with and we see this at the worst monopolies in the world from Wells Fargo to telecom.
      IMHO et al

We make fajitas with the soy curls. Soak in beef less broth (better than bouillon has a no beef and no chicken flavor) squeeze the liquid out, season and fry in the pan with the onions and peppers.
I make an extra stepp and pull out the largest pieces first prior to soaking. I keep smaller pieces for other dishes. I just think the bigger pieces look nicer. It's not a needed step, but it's worth it to me.

I haven’t made my own yogurt yet, but I plan to because I got an Insta pot recently! I love and appreciate that you gave an even simpler option for yogurt though, because vegan yogurt can be so expensive! Also for soy milk without additives if you have a trader Joe’s near you- they sell organic pantry soy milk that is just water and organic soy beans and like $2 for a quart! That is the most affordable option I have found and I love that it is high in protein and shelf stable! I always stock up when I am at Trader Joe’s. 🤗

Silken tofu and cashews are high FODMAP which I typically avoid. Do you have a recommendation for replacements? Could I try using sunflower seeds as a “cream” replacer? Or could I use soft tofu with ranch instead of silken tofu and just thin out with almond milk?
    Thanks love your recipes.

I wish soy curls were less expensive. Years ago I found them on sale for $3 per bag and I have not been able to afford them since.

Ok new subscriber here, I’m on day 28 of the VEGANUARY CHALLENGE and I bought a bunch of “vegan” stuff, TVP was something I bought but didn’t know how to use.
    Thanks for clarifying for me.

Thank you for the hacks. I've been plant based for awhile & always like to hear some hints & things to make my life easier. Garbanzo beans in the iPot are SO good. I did not realize they could be that good - haha & I'm making white beans in the iPot right now [I haven't been able to find canned in months.] Soy curls - LOVE them!!! I just found you & I'm so glad I did!😊

I've been using soy milk powder since the C19 lockdown. There was about three weeks when I couldn't get fresh plant milk. I happened to find a bad of dried soy milk powder in another isle. I followed the instructions and discovered the most delicious and inexpensive plant milk by volume. I just cannot go back, it's too good.

Hi! I recently found your channel and I just love it!!! Could I confirm that the bread calls for 2 tablespoons of the yeast? Thanks so much! Keep up the great work...so appreciated!

Way way too much yeast. Try this (my go-to bread machine recipe): 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water, 2 cups whole wheat flour, 2 cups all purpose white flour, 1 3/4 teaspoons salt, 2 1/2 TEASPOONS instant dry yeast. Run on 2 lb white bread cycle. No oil, no sugar, way less yeast.

When you freeze the beans that you’ve made from scratch are they easy to separate when they’re frozen or do you have to defrost the whole jar?

  • @antiquelady60
    @antiquelady60 10 місяців тому

I recently heard that jars with "shoulders" (like the typical 32-oz mason jars) shouldn't be used for freezing, only the ones with completely straight sides (e.g. 16-oz wide-mouth). Do any of you who have done a lot of freezing in jars know if this is true?

    • @karlineschrubberstiel

As long as you don't overfill them, they're fine. Leave at least 2 inches empty.

Edensoy Unsweetened Soy Milk is what I use most of the time. Trader Joe's Unsweetened Soy Milk is ok, but it's not as creamy (or as high in protein).

Hello. Thank you for these wonderful hacks! Question: what is the calorie content for the mug cake? Thanks!

  • @merrill997
    @merrill997 11 місяців тому

Great tips! Thank you. I use Brittany Jaroudi's instant pot soy yogurt recipe. It is very easy. I get my unsweetened 2 ingredient (soybeans and water) soy milk from Canned Foods Warehouse when I can find it because it is cheaper. But Trader Joes has a 2 ingredient soy milk. Tip - the higher the protein of the soy milk, the thicker your yogurt.

I cannot eat beans that have been frozen. It really messes up the texture and flavor. I will freezer prep soups and chili without the beans and then add the beans in the instant pot.
Soy curl texture is so much better when air-fried. Squeeze the water out of them, flavor with soy sauce, molasses, and smoke paprika and air fry until desired doneness. Perfect Soy Curl Bacon.
