As an Ni dom - it feels like I have a spider robot in my head that's constantly building a huge web of connections and patterns and testing it. Everything I experience or learn or see gets taken into account. It's like my "map of possibilities". it's ALWAYS happening. It's just like my default state. If something happens, I immediately try and see what's connected to it. If you pull on a string you'll see what it's connected to. The only thing is you can't really go your whole life just observing.
Spider robot is an awesome metaphor, relatable. my Ni metaphor of choice is a crystal forming in solution. Sensory experiences are simultaneously altering and being processed by my one crystal to rule them all. New molecules fall in line with previous ones until large networks are formed. -INTJ
i main Ne (LMAO like a game) and I find the accumulating web to be a familiar experience - except while your description sounds like a very directional dive into the Why and How and What Happened To Lead Us Here (a spider traversing the web), my connections are monkeys swinging on tangentially related vines. The vines are all over the place, connected to a giant overarching canopy, and depending on how you swing them (and sometimes you're just swinging and not thinking of where you're going) you can end up on a vine miles away from the starting point (writing it like that it sounds like Se*, but in the mind lol. "shiny new idea! let's jump there" energy. could you describe Ni in relation to Si the same way, and vice versa? Si, manifested and reinforced patterns of the everyday, Ni, patterns of behaviour and thought? anyway-). of course i know how i got here (usually), because i can see the vines i've used still swinging behind me, but given enough time, after the vines have stilled, even i get lost. not that it matters, because the interconnected nature of all things mean i can always find my way back if i just jump around long enough. i might not recognize it as being back though, and it'll probably have changed by the time i reach it again, but that just means it stays fun and exciting! and everything i learn, experience, see, whatever, is a new fun vine to get me to further places! *this also means i can also seem p Se because i also jump from experience to experience really quickly, but not for the ~sensation of it~ or the ~moment~ of it, but because it's a new thing to ponder
I'm an INTJ and developing my baby Se has been the best thing to happen to me. I feel like it has completed me. Engaging with the physical world has given me some of the best experiences I've ever had and has made me feel like a part of the world. It's such a contrast to when I was younger and living most of my life in my head.
(INTJ) 100% agree, balancing sensory and intuition is nothing short of wonderous. How did you improve your Se? My methods were martial arts and meditation, among others.
@@godKiller.369 I just started trying whatever captured my interest when I hit about my mid-20s (I'm almost 50 now). So over the years I've done a bunch of things such as cooking, dancing, kayaking, dragonboat racing, running, strength training, hiking, wood working, pottery, I had a decluttering/housecleaning business when I was in my 20s, painting, refinishing wood furniture….even just writing all of these down is filling me with happiness. I feel so alive when I’m using Se. What has been most surprising to me is I actually didn't struggle much to build my Se skills. I basically hit the ground running. The biggest roadblock for me was just getting out of my head. As soon as I got into my body it's like everything clicked into place.
Starting in my mid-20s (I'm almost 50 now) I’ve tried a bunch of things such as cooking, dancing, kayaking, dragonboat racing, running, strength training, hiking, wood working, pottery, I had a decluttering/housecleaning business when I was in my 20s, painting, refinishing wood furniture, travelling….even just writing all of these down is filling me with happiness. It's like my Se was laying dormant rather than underdeveloped because I hit the ground running. The biggest roadblock for me was just getting out of my head. As soon as I got into my body and turned my attention outward it's like everything clicked into place.
@@lisadee7150 “I feel so alive when I’m using Se” honestly that’s a wonderful way to put it, I feel the same way! As an INFJ it’s funny to see that whole list of things you tried. May just be me but I do feel like in comparison INTJs have less trouble trying out new things (unlike my anxious ass) but it’s like… INTJs can do the things, it just has to click in their head and be decided that it’s a worthwhile/beneficial endeavor, and they can jump into these things with confidence. Would that be kinda accurate? Nearing thirty I’m still struggling with letting Se into my life and balancing it all out, but throughout life I’ve been shown enough how wonderful it is. I ‘secretly’ have the heart of a performer (singing, dancing, acting, even speaking) and especially when dancing with the right music, in my living room at night lol, I feel so alive; it’s like my body is in better condition all of a sudden, cause I’m moving it for ‘fun’ reasons haha, in many other cases it’s a drag (bad mental health influence too). My personal experience with an INTJ (and even some general immature ones online) left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, which I’m trying to rinse out, but it’s interesting how our physical intimacy (in the most general sense, even just the hugs)… it’s like both of us felt and appreciated it as deeply, almost in the same way as the other. Sadly in many ways we had too different personalities/interests (beyond our types; these days I actually disagree with calling mbti ‘personality types’, it’s more like brain types to me, more basic/essential) so we clashed more and more. But the times where we let Se do its thing, instead of just being in our heads, probably our most chill and amazing times. So interesting. (sorry for the long-ass comment, y’all just inspired me to think about all these things^^)
It's so interesting to hear an Se Dom talk about her frustrations with feeling limited. Se Doms usually are so lively and energetic they seem like they don't have any. But since they are so outward focused it seems like they don't reveal their inner world very readily.
I've noticed that's something people don't realize about extroverts, some introverts seem to think we have it all together and that we don't have difficulties- which is an unfair assumption, everyone has their own struggles.
I'm an INFJ and always enjoy hearing Kristin talk about her life experiences as an ESFP. I guess it's b/c my Dom and Inferior functions are flipped, but a lot of times I can't relate, but that's okay. It's what I find so fascinating about MBTI. We have this tool to explain these kinds of differences, and learn from them.
Thanks for sharing your perspectives and experiences, Kristin! What I've learned as an Ni-dom while discussing such topics with countless Se-doms (because of my job they are the most common people in my life) is that both types tend to be late bloomers, but we come to that point differently. Se-doms are like: 'Sorry I wasted my early twenties doing some reckless stuff and not thinking long-term at all' while Ni-doms are more like: 'Sorry I wasted my early twenties trying to become the smartest person in the world while not gaining any real life experience to apply this huge database of knowledge'. We are very different, yet here we are, meeting in real life and on the internet, approaching same problems from different angles. In that sense, I prefer the term 'aspirational' instead of 'inferior' while discussing the 4th function (of any type). 'I want to be as cool as those guys... and I have all the tools to do so from time to time!' - that's a more proper way to describe it, in my opinion.
That 'thought' you've given for Ni-doms is THE defining one for my life, now in my late 30s, as an INTP. 😆 Though not just early 20s, but the entire 20s, teens, and early 30s. :/
@@exnihilonihilfit6316 indeed, Se inferior and Se blindspot can have some similarities, in the way they manifest. I played in a band which had 3 xNTPs in it, loved their ideas and overall laidback vibe… perhaps even too laidback sometimes: I mean, I’m not the fastest one to complete recordings, to be honest, but still the band wouldn’t have released 90% of its content without my input as a J-type.
Yeah, I think people working on their fourth function is definitely a good idea. I made a Reddit post about advice for the 16th personalities based on their fourth function. The ESxP and IxTJ ones were similar to what you said, and for ExTJs (I'm ESTJ) it was "You can't, shouldn't, and don't need to do everything" That is, use your Fi to do what you actually enjoy doing and realize when you're getting stressed or being hard on yourself. And for IxFPs it was "You can do more than you think" which basically means working on and fulfilling your dreams (that are possible) instead of only daydreaming.
I love getting an Se-dom's view on Ni, it is genuinely refreshing to see my own strengths manifest in another type in a different way. It really makes you aware of how different people are, how to understand and communicate with them the right way- as well as just having a fresh perspective by not putting people into a one-size-fits-all box. Amazing video here, Kristin!
This isn't only useful for people who have Ni as a third or last function. It's also nice for people like myself who have Ni high up to hear the perspective of someone who isn't as ''good'' at it. Ni's complicated after all.
I am really enjoying learning about your experiences with Ni. While trying (and failing) to avoid the mandatory “as an Ni-dom,” it is actually really enlightening learning how my main function is perceived from other types or how they use it. Your insights are also making me reflect more on my inferior Se, and how I can improve on it! Ni-Se is such a fascinating combo, honestly.
"Ni-Se is such a fascinating combo, honestly." I agree. My son is ENTJ and I'm ENFJ. We have countless conversations where we banter with our (more balanced-with-each-other) NI-Se at work. It makes for lively conversations. Both of us struggle communicating clearly and listening to each other because our brains make connections so quickly that our mouths can't catch up. We constantly jump to conclusions about what the other "must" be thinking. We are either having the time of our lives or are at each others' throats. 🤣
Thank you for sharing your experience because I think it's VERY important to have Extroverted Sensors' insight on how they experience Introverted Intuition to make it more understandable for the MBTI community. Us Introverted Intuition users tend to have it really hard because there is so many misconceptions around our function. People project anything they want on it or call it fake or inferior simply because they tend to not get it and not recognize the patterns. So then we tend to appear smug and superior to others just because we say we see something they don't. So they wrongly assume things about us. But patterns, it's very subtle, not exactly the easiest thing to prove or to demonstrate to people (especially to Sensors). You have to notice it. Since we have Se inferior, it's very hard for us to remember concrete examples. We mostly remember the essence, what a concrete experience reveals and can signify abstractly. Extroverted Sensors are far more common than Introverted Intuitioners so their experience through the lense of Extroverted Sensing first can be more easily understood by people. If we had more Extroverted Sensors to share their insight in the MBTI community, I'm pretty sure we would be much more understood, respected and seen as normal. Just like Extroverted Sensors use concrete data to form patterns, us Introverted Intuitioners use patterns to form realistic visions. People even question our visions precisely because they don't develop their intuition when we know ourselves we have enough pattern recognition to make claims. It's never bold predictions from our part because on the contrary INxJs we tend to be EXTREMELY careful people. Probably too much even. If we haven't experienced enough patterns about something, we don't feel safe in doing things. When we say something, we generally don't say it out of nowhere but use our own collected pattern points during concrete experiences. Concrete data points are just way easier to explain to people which is definitely a + for Sensors to be believed. When they make their reasoning people tend to start from the most simple and visible stuff to go towards the more abstract in reflexion. For us Introverted Intuitioners, we already know the essence, the main idea from the start but we need to find the most simple and general stuff to convey this complexity. So we start from the most complicated stuff to come to the most simple. That's why the (Ni) function can be so abstract and difficult to get, and why Introverted Intuitioners are anything but simple people. There is reasons for it.
*Who* in the online MBTI community is calling Ni inferior? INTJs are considered the coolest and smartest type, so much so that my INFP niece and INTP brother-in-law both insist they're INTJs because.. reasons. Sensors are considered dumb, shallow, and inferior.
Oh there is definitely some people who do. I guess it will tend to be more Si people even though I don't want to generalize because they're more past oriented people so they *TEND* to have a harder time envisioning something precise based on intuition. And when you can convey it some people will just assume it's bullshit or you're always wrong. Huh, well...not necessarely. Some people really despise INTJs and find them heartless. People either don't trust or revere (Ni) doms like magical creatures, there is no in between. They usually want to be Ni doms simply because it's rare, which shows people usually don't understand it. Sensors aren't always seen as dumb and generally more trustworthy because they're more concrete and straightforward people.
As an older ENFJ who has a fairly developed sense of Ni, I resonated with this: "Just like Extroverted Sensors use concrete data to form patterns, us Introverted Intuitioners use patterns to form realistic visions. People even question our visions precisely because they don't develop their intuition when we know ourselves we have enough pattern recognition to make claims." My Si dom husband struggles to trust my judgment because I don't always have concrete data. But I KNOW. I truly KNOW. And I have really hard explaining why I know. It can be very frustrating. I'm getting better at utilizing baby Ti to slow down and explain the logic behind my judgments - but it's still a challenge.
@@cathyhart3946 I get you. For INxJs it can be very hard to remember the Se experiences. I guess it's fairly easier for ENFJs/ENTJs because they can remember concrete examples more easily and thus appear more trustworthy. INxJs usually don't even care providing it because they don't need concrete examples first to understand concepts and get it right away. They basically understand life in reverse. Instead of finding the concrete experience that leads to the abstract concept after they get the absract concept first and then find concrete examples to see how this concept could apply in concrete life. If it does then they were right too even if it was theoretical at first. Just like scientists do, they theorize something with maths and then try to see if the maths apply in the real world. The actual problem is that intuition isn't valued in society at all. People rely on logic or concrete experience to take action, more rarely emotions and intuition once in a blue moon. So the population isn't used to using intuition or developping it. This easily leads to people think you're insane or drawing random conclusions while it's an actual usable source of data by looking at what concrete experiences can intellectualy mean if that makes sense. Thing is people actually use intuition more frequently than they realize when they make claims based on what they've experienced but without factual evidence. Intuition goes beyond facts and logical reasoning by being a faster way of collecting patterns to try to find causalities among correlations. What INxJs and I guess ENxJs to some extent are constantly doing is simply connecting the different correlations that can be made and sometimes some of these correlations actually were causalities. When INxJs/ ENxJs are very confident about a prediction, it's because they're pretty sure the correlation they identified is a real causality because they got enough pattern recognition to say so by using the probabilities inherited from their entire whole life pattern recognition. I always thought ENxJs would be the bests at explaining Introverted Intuition because it's their tool function. They're supposed to use it deliberately whereas when it's the dominant function it's running almost automatically. The ironic thing is that even though people usually assume Ni users are day dreamers, they always forget Ni users have Se so they're necessarely still grounded in some way so they're not simply saying bullshit. They're still aware of their reality. That criticizm might actually be more relevant for ENxPs/INxPs. It's not surprising, it's actually naturally expected according to MBTI that Si users, who are also the most common types btw would understand Ni the least because it's their 8th function. For Si doms, they have to rely on their Ne to try to understand it which might be extremely difficult because they rely only on concrete data from the past to form claims. Finding an INTP to explain him might actually be the best way to make him understand because they are great at explaining things but also have high intuition even though it's Ne and they have decent Si. Plus they have Fe inferior which is still a + compared to an INFP to be understood as an ENFJ. Although this would require having to explain Ni to them first and even though they'll more likely understand it, their need for logical data might also give some challenge. Then explaining the INTP why Se which is direct experience is valuable just like Si's past experiences might be necessary. Also asking a Si user *what they think what these particular past experiences reveal about current days* might be a good way to make them connect to Ni more by making them synthetize the common point in past experiences. This common point is most likely what a Ni user would have understood first before having the past experiences the Si user could provide. Si would be the point A and Ni the point B in that regard, just like it is in actuality. Si is the past, Ni is the future. So yes, the fact that Ni users are the rarest types + the fact Intuition isn't acknowledged and respected makes INxJs particularly appear weird, atypical and not respected either. Ni doms are probably the only types who can never fully be themselves around others except other Ni doms and ENxJs because they won't understand. That easily explains why the relationship between INTJ and INFJ can be so strong, almost like finding a soulmate.
*@Maartenvanderh* Well, I feel like letting go of the needs is precisely what doesn't help INJs to be understood rather 😅, and that they do it from the get go and have to learn to accept some needs to be understood like most do on the contrary.
To be honest, I was really surprised to see an MBTI channel run by an ESFP. Not that I have any disparaging views against ESFPs. Its just that MBTI itself is a heavily "NI" concept at its core. Its all about patterns, categorization, and abstract concepts. Look at any comment section on these types of videos, and you are going to see a disproportionate representation of NI doms compared to their small numbers in the overall population. Its kinda rare for me to run into SE doms in MBTI enthusiast circles. So, I figured that for you to be doing this, you would have had to grapple with NI at some point. You're making stuff that is 100% as deep and thoughtful as any of the NI doms I've watched. You've strengthened your inferior function far more than most people ever will. As an INTJ, I hope that I can build my SE to the same extent you've built your NI.
I love you're continuing this series, Kristin. NI is my dominant function, and it helps to know more about it. Also, it's definitely where I get my tendency to overthink and analyse everything!
coming from an INTJ (an Ni DOM), introverted intuition IS peering through the noise and distilling the desired outcome you might wish of whatEVER down to its most basic/crucial/essential components. though its not exactly the same thing, Ni IS akin to deductive reasoning on STEROIDS. THATS THE easiest way to think about it. THATS ALL. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) ABSOLUTELY. FOR SURE. - (again) INTJ
I’m currently studying cognitive science in university and something that struck me is really how similar we are and that the mbti just filters out the relative tendencies. Talking about the sensing-intuitive “spectrum”, in cognitive science you can say that all humans require examples and concrete data to understand larger concepts. I wrote an essay about humans performing tasks using the Bayesian theorem and found in Seldmeier and Gigerenzer’s paper “Teaching Bayesian Reasoning in Less Than Two Hours” that we all need contextual cues to understand broader concepts. Kind of like a calculator: a calculator using Roman numbers can’t calculate anything when you use a different number system. It’s just very context specific, and so are humans. So we all, to some extent, prefer the sensory. So this idea that intuition dominant types (like my own type - the entp) focus on abstract concepts, and the contextual cues come later, is largely false. It’s just that we use a minimal amount of sensing data to quickly “get to the point” of it. We are interested in the concepts and abstract ideas but we can’t understand them without the context-specific data. The contextual data doesn’t always have to be tangible, but usually that helps. We have evolved that way because of evolution and because things in the world always appear in some sort of context, usually tangible and for us to sense. We are dependent on sensory data and thus have adapted to needing it involved in all our information processing because we need it to survive. That’s also how we detect poison, keep ourselves from freezing to death etc. Just commenting because I feel like in the mbti community, and I used to think that way too before starting my degree, these individual preferences are assumed to be expressed in very extreme ways when in reality we all do everything and we’re so much more similar that mbti may make it out to be. Although I also see that mbti mainly focuses on individuality (amidst all our similarities?) in a unique way/with unique terminology.
Yeah, thise video resonated... in reverse :D As an INFJ I am a master a thinking out the future based on known patterns. But especially when I was younger I was lacking the outside world data and I could go around in circles trying to solve impossible puzzles. With time, I've learnt that I eventually need to try out things and gather data. The best thing I've learnt is that failing is learning. Sure, failing will always be hard because it hurts so it will never be my strong side. However, I am at least capable of trying things that I have not fully figured out in my head. Also my partner is an ESFP and I while it is hard for us understand out approaches we help each other when the other one is really struggling with thei weeker function. However, I still get annoyed when he jumps into chaging some things in his PC and then there are things he didn't plan ahead and he calls me to save him by bringing him something that is "suddenly" crutial for the task or by using my smaller hand to grab something because "suddenly" something is hard to access with the approach he's taken :P
It’s amazing to see Se dom be that much interested in MBTI and fully understand cognitive functions. I’m ENFJ and I have lots of ESFPs and ESTPs friends in my life. I feel like I can discover my 3rd function better 🤭 and of course I tried really hard to show them how important is to understand MBTI and how it can inspire their journey ☺️ However I found out that all of them are just enjoying the present moment and their don’t care about the future. it was really difficult to get deeper in conversation 🥲 and then I see you and it makes my heart melt 💓 thank you for everything you do to help others finally understand themselves and live their best lives 🧡🧡
My mother is an esfp, and from her recollection it seems that she developed her Ni function the most during her pregnancy and starting to raise a kid. At first, she noticed the way she does parenting is different from her parents did parenting. Then, she started reflecting on her past mistakes, which turned into a "Ni grip" (alongside postpartum depression). Through some introsepction of development, the woman I call my mother today carries herself with not only style but also wisdom. Also, congratulations on your journey!
Most of the videos that I have watched about Ni are posted by people who have it as a dominant function, so it is interesting to hear about it from someone who has it as an inferior function. It's like looking at something familiar from a new angle, such as flying over the house you grew up in, or at least seeing an aerial photo of it, for the first time. Very good advice here. I think that I can apply it to my reverse situation of being an Ni dom with inferior Se. I'm glad you posted this.
As an INFJ (who is severely detached from reality), Ni feels like the “artist’s magic” to me. Because it’s constantly absorbing information and patterns on a subliminal level, and then it all presents itself in an equally subliminal way, like during my writing. It’s very iNtuitive, as it is called, because it just feels like “oop this is gonna happen, and I don’t know why I know that, but it is” and then such thing happens. Yes, it’s not a sixth sense, per se, because it’s based off pattern recognition and such, but it always *feels* like a sixth sense. To put it another way, Ni is like the Literary Analysis function, always seeking deeper meaning in everything and making connections to either a real or perceived reality (because sometimes we Ni doms can get stuck on a particular conclusion or narrative that may not be the “right” one but we insist it is). It’s somewhat mysterious on the surface but also a bit wacky when you get to know the person more and see how it presents in them specifically based off their personality and mannerisms. It’s like seeing the inner workings of the subconscious
INTP here: Your trickster/blindspot (7th) is my Hero (1st) function [T(i)], and vice versa. S(e) blind is a burden, I am clumsy, unaware, and have to spend mental efforts just to groom, lest I become a neckbearded caricature. (And none of it is an excuse, working on it all). I would love a video about T(i) as an ESFP, it would be great to see the contrast between our two personality types, between strongest and weakest functions.
kristin, thank you so much for this video im an enfj male who have an esfp little sister, it inspires me to navigate and be more aware of my functions and her functions to shape it into the best potential, god bless you and all your family, love from indoneesia
In the same sense you say that Se has been overused by you as an Se dom, the overuse of their primary function can also be detrimental to other types as well (but seems to be less talked about for some reason). I am an INTJ and I've noticed that what my Ni produces tends to be hollow or even outright garbage when I am too distanced to my Se, which means when I have too little life experiences and am too much in my ivory tower. It's interesting that in my youth I've had much more often this feeling of my Ni just producing hollow philosophies than now in my late twenties, where I am atleast a bit more leaning into my Se. In a way I am more alive now than when I was younger 😅
“I am more alive now than when I was younger” this is the second person in these comments (sort of) wording their thoughts about Se this way… and it’s so true, I think it’s wonderful to see others experience it like this. I will try to embrace my Se more and more, one step at a time, being alive more than just existing/observing💪
I'm an INFJ and it's always super interesting to hear the perspective of Se doms, especially since there doesn't seem to be a lot of them in the online MBTI-space (at least not as content creators). I think it's fascinating to hear how you see the world, and how you _DON'T_ plan thing ahead of time. I recognize the 90-10 split, but for me it was Ni>Se my entire life. But recently I've really tried to lean into my Se more. Trying to combine the "brain" and the "brawn" like Professor Hulk. xD
INTJ here: I personally always imagined my Ni like a giant spiderweb on the surface of a lake. Every crossing is a data point connected to other data points with threads. Everytime there is a new information coming its like a raindrop falling on the lake and the ripples run through the threads until it hits something that is comparable and then i can see all the connections/patterns to whatever im seeing in the real world. This way i can already guess what things will happen since there is a high probability that the pattern repeats if there are enough similarities. I hope this is understandable xD
I’m also an ESFP and I really relate to basically everything you said. I’ve dabbled into MBTI, but kind of lost interest over the years, but hearing you basically describe me, it makes me want to find out more about it and become a better version of myself. Thanks!
INTJ here and I have the same feeling towards my own long term vision. I can do it, cognitively. Very easily. But I cannot decide how and where should I live. That decision has to come from the outside. This is something that Si people must decide for me. Or rather give me an offer. Same with what will I do. Work. I do not actually care. Surprise me. That is a job for Ti. My job is to come up with solutions to their problems and teach it to them (Ni), and explain to them how to behave, so they do not kill each other (Fi). Also, that "indulging in present moment" - that I think is Ni. Ni is about trying to find and prove tools to affect the environment. It feels indulging for ESFP, because it is the last function - something you can do, but not have to do. With Ni in first place, other people give you a task, that you have to accomplish using Ni. Because you are incapable of having your own problems.
I just heard you say you have gotten through 100% if the hardships you’ve been faced with. That is an amazing perspective that I never would have thought of.
20:47 Humility =Reality =Truth =) You are strong. 💪 Your child, your husband Andrew, and ENTJ friend Marie (it was great hearing her in both podcast episodes!) are, imo, so blessed to have such a strong inspirational loving healing fantastic comedic genius powerhouse mother, wife, friend, and doctor, Dr. Dear Kristin. Worth the hype!
@@user-gh5gl7dq4h Okay, so keep in mind that these are all examples of Ni and Te together. 1. I ran away from my narcissistic Mothers' house when I was 11 by planning for 2 years. I got straight A's in school in grades 5 and 6. I went to the doctor right before so she couldn't argue that I was psychotic. I told all of my friends and teachers about her. I ran away in the middle of the summer so she couldn't argue that I had an obligation to finish out the school year at her house. (She's an ESFJ, if you're curious.) At the end of the day, it worked. I successfully ran away to my Dads' house. But then she had him put in jail over false allegations, and I had to go back to her house. (He was on parole, so they were already kind of watching him.) After he got out, I did it again (successfully). His parole officer knew not to trust her by that point, so if she'd done it again, it wouldn't have worked. 2. She started showing up at my high school every month in about 2004/2005 and having me pulled out of class. I waited until she'd done it a certain number of times, and then I slipped the office workers a note that she was a narcissist and would keep having me pulled out of class until I graduated, so they banned her from the school. It was never a problem again. 3. I figured out that I had a medical condition on my own in 2018. I had a lot of little symptoms that could've been explained away by something else - for example, I had eczema-like rashes, but only on the right side of my body. I was growing facial hair. My weight was massively out of control. I was getting nosebleeds on a daily basis. My blood pressure would go up and down randomly. Eventually I got sick of doctors just telling me to take anti-depressants and go to therapy, so I figured out what was wrong with me on my own: Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. After I stopped eating gluten, all of my symptoms disappeared. 4. I used to live in a crappy hospital (The Montford Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) where everybody had dementia except for me and my roommate (we both have brain damage). As a result, I ended up getting attacked by them 3 times (including being stabbed in the neck with a pencil, having my hair ripped out, being bitten, and being strangled with my own necklace). Eventually, I got so tired of this that I decided to escape. I pulled the fire alarm (pulling the fire alarm makes the doors of a locked ward open automatically), but I did it 4 times. The first 3 times were me just sitting outside of the hospital and observing their reaction - how long would it take the fire trucks to get there, which direction were they coming from, would they also send police, etc. The 4th time was a genuine escape attempt. Because I knew which direction the ambulances were coming from and how long it took them to get there, I purposely ran in the opposite direction as fast as I could - and so I did end up successfully escaping. But I wouldn't have known that if I didn't get to observe their reaction first.
@@user-gh5gl7dq4h 1. I figured out that I had a medical condition in 2018 because I noticed a lot of little clues that a doctor wouldn't have noticed. For example, I had eczema-like rashes, but only on the right side of my body. I was massively overweight (like, 200+ pounds overweight) even though I'm a vegetarian and eat normally. I had facial hair. My blood pressure and heart rate would go up and down randomly. Eventually, I got sick of doctors telling me to just take anti-depressants and go to therapy, so I decided to figure out what was wrong with me on my own. Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. My body attacks my thyroid when I eat gluten, which is the organ that helps your body regulate itself. After I stopped eating gluten, all of my symptoms disappeared. 2. I escaped from a hospital where both the nurses and patients were ab*sing me (The Montford Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada). Almost everybody there had dementia except for me and my roommate, and they would attack me and each other constantly (like, literally on a daily basis I was getting stabbed, having things throw at me, being strangled, getting bitten, etc). The nurses were stealing from me (6 iPads), not giving me medical for my medical condition, I didn't get to shower for 2 years, etc. So I decided to escape. I escaped by pulling the fire alarm, but I did it 4 times. The first 3 times were just me sitting outside of the hospital and observing their reaction (how long did it take the fire trucks to get there, which direction were they coming from, would they also send police, etc). The 4th was an actual escape attempt. Because I knew which direction the ambulances were coming from, I purposely ran in the opposite direction as fast as I could - and so I did end up successfully escaping. But I wouldn't have known that if I didn't get to observe their reaction first. (Side note: these are all examples of Ni and Te together. First, I noticed patterns through Ni; and then I developed plans in response to them through Te.)
Se takes in data in short bursts. Interspersed with those bursts, Ni works with the judging functions to curate that data as it comes in. For example, if you’re talking to me, I’ll be listening for, say, ten seconds, then when it seems like things are coasting, I’ll quickly switch over to Ni mode to sort through the data for a bit. Most of it gets discarded as fluff. In one ear, out the other like it never even happened. Then it’s back into Se mode, possibly with some emergency Ni to infer what you were saying while I was in Ni curation mode. And back and forth between Se vs Ni+judging functions. Over and over and over. (The process can be exhausting.) The handful of nuggets that end up making it past the selection process go into long term Si storage. In more quieter settings over the long term, Ni takes its time and pores over the accumulated Si datapoints and looks for big picture patterns. If Ni finds such a pattern, that pattern should be double checked via Se+judging function research. Should be, anyway. Once a big picture pattern worth keeping is found, the Si datapoints are scrapped. Only the big picture pattern is kept. Think of it kind of like a connect-the-dots puzzle. Once you know what the Ni picture is, you don’t need those Si dots anymore. It’s more involved than that. For example, Ni isn’t just looking at how things fit with the stored Si datapoints, Ni is also looking for fit with the accumulated stored Ni pictures. Very, very rarely, a picture will pop out that goes way beyond the connect-the-dots analogy. The picture will be so vivid and so unexpected that the experience is almost indescribable. Like the first time you “got”one of those “Magic Eye” illusions but times a million.
"When some see coincidence, I see consequence. When others see chance, I see cost." By the way, midway trough watching the "INFJ reacting to "INFJ tier-ranking the 16 personalities" two weeks ago I saw a pattern and made a note -"stay tuned for more of Kristin`s videos on Ni" 😁 (edit) I would be interested in how Ni manifests in the blind spot (7th) too, for ESFJ and ESTJ, if we can get into those shadow functions.
@@jameswilkerson4412 INTJ here (I wondered if I could be a mistyped Ti-focused INFJ, but after observing the real deal I know I am most definitely not Te blind like that 😄)
For a supposed INFJ, Ni Appears for me as an abstract funnel or a blackhole of sorts. My mind is constantly trying to make sense of concepts and patterns to fill in the blanks of what happened, is happening and will happen in the future... All of those patterns and ideas go inside that blackhole into the singularity of my framework of understanding of myself, the people, and the world at large. It's quite the pleasant feeling when something "ticks" and I realise a new concept or idea that I can integrate into my framework :D Although... I can say that having your mind constantly working in the back can get exhausting, especially cause you can't really switch it off :'D Another thing I notice is, since Being in the realm of Se can be rather draining, it's almost as if I try to endure it to get a glimpse of data, then retreat to formulate a whole reality or scenario from said limited data... always filling in the blanks with the framework I am gradually expanding upon over time :')
I'm not an ESFP and i don't even have any of its functions, but video was very interesting for me. I like how "realistic" your experience sounds, it's really informative to hear about development of cognitive functions from person who you can see really went through some personal growth with clear examples of how. I really hope to see some more videos about functions, especially about grips or loops, inferior functions etc. I didn't see any video from you about loops and grips, so yeah. Anyway, thank you for new video, i love it.
Hello, INTJ (not mistyped) here! When she said that she couldn't recognize long term consequences of her actions and mistakes, it made me even more sure that I am a Ni dom because I do that every time before doing the actual thing in the present. And btw, imagine if her baby will be Ni dom, INTJ especially 🤣🤣 I love your videos Kristin!!
I can't imagine what it must be like to talk about Ni as an ESFP, I'm an INTJ and I couldn't tell you what the hell Ni is 😅I know I'm doing it all the time but I've never really heard or managed to come up with a satisfying explanation. But S and N functions in general are just so tough to pin down imo.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I find it fascinating because it's so different to how I think, as an INFP. I love learning about it! Getting my head around Ni as a concept is still tricky. Being asked about the future befuddles me because my default is to think 'well as long as I don't betray what i believe in, and i stay open minded to new things and don't repeat mistakes of the past, things will hopefully be okay' (Fi, Ne, Si) - then my poor baby Te is like 'but how do we get to the big picture faster??' cue an inefficient Ne loop lol
Thank you for this insight. My daughter is INFP (I'm ENFJ) and I have such a hard time understanding her. I sometimes see her behavior or a decision she's making, and I try to get her to consider why she might not be on the right course. Because of my age, experience, and my Ni vision - I know I have something to offer her. However, she can be SO STUBBORN because of the "what I believe in" mentality. And then there's the Ne-Ni battle. She's thinking my conclusions aren't right because I haven't considered all the options and I'm telling her I KNOW I'm right because of years of collecting patterns. It can be maddening. I love the creativity and beauty of the INFP brain - but sometimes you guys seem impossible to me. 🤪😂
ISFP here, I feel like I can relate to a lot of what you said to some degree. I don't think my pattern recognition is that amazing, maybe I can tell something will happen, but I won't be able to think of why and how or how to fix it very well. Im guessing having both Fi and Se makes impulsivety inevitable... I also need to calm down sometimes And ig I should try to trust my Ni a bit more, -when im not using it as a form of escapism- there are situations were I was right about something. Might be off topic but there's a funny thing I wanna share, the other day my brother (istp) was talking about this person in a twitch drama that was obviously very insecure -big egos are like big balloons lol- everything my brother said about them one by one checked off the list of behaviors I recognized, which made sense to me despite how problematic they were (from my own experiences, ni introspection and whatever else online). My brother didn't immediately realize that a huge ego and insecurity are kinda tangent to each other and the only word he could use to describe them was CRAZY 😂 It's so funny to think that insecure people could look insane to rational people/Ti doms 😅 I don't really know the whole situation but I can't help but sympathize a bit
I really appreciate Kristin’s pointing out that the development of the lesser functions comes with progressing maturity. Ni and Se especially are so vastly different that pushing yourself too far in the other direction can seem quite daunting, but it’s easy for MBTI experts sometimes to be overly emphatic about speeding their development because it’s one of its most obvious impacting real-life applications. Honestly even a non-MBTI mindset of finding enjoyment in the things others enjoy does tons for inferior and tertiary development. Thank you for the nuance (AH YES I USED THE WORD LOL) there, and this was as usual a really well-done video.
Youve grown so much. Your videos are so clear, and youve developed the ni patterns and facial expressions in a way you can exist in them, i almost would not have guessed ni was ur inferior. So good job!
Ni is my tert function. I find that I use it pretty evenly with Se (I'm an ISFP), which leads to this feeling of being in this constant intuition-sensing limbo. As somone who does not lead with a perceiving function, it is very inteteresting to learn about how Se and Ni are utilized in the decision making process, and the at times directionless weight of them, that sometimes people have to check in with themselves to cut through the amorphous "doing" and "perceiving" of it all. The inf Ni taps dom Se on the shoulder and asks, why are you doing this again? And Se asks dom Ni things like "when and how are we doing this??" But my experience leaves my perceiving functions as this hybrid thing in the middle thats used more as a catalyst of my experience and doesnt require a ton of space since its there to give my reasoning context. Lol I dont know if my explanation makes much sense at this point but i tried😅 we isfps are naturally vague at times.
My cousin is an ESFP and when we were growing up she’d catastrophize about a lot of things about the future (what her career would be, if she and her current boyfriend will stay together, what university she’ll attendant) and I never quite understood it because she usually wouldn’t care about that stuff, she usually just vibes. But this explains a lot of her behavior! Especially me as an ENFP, who enjoyed talking about future possibilities (but stressing out my cousin with all the Ne possibilities)
I think that's specifically something Ni-doms don't understand either because they're very confident when it comes to their future because they can easily envision how to shape it through their day to day actions so they don't fear it. That's why they look so determined and confident about what they want to achieve. But when it's low it could really be a struggle to be clueless about the future. That alone reveals the importance of intuition in other types who can deal fairly easily with it. Being a Ni-dom also generally allows to detect bad or nonsensical predictions that don't come from a place of good pattern recognition. Alien and conspiracy theories generally come from Se users who can have a hard time making realistic calls and predictions. I've always wondered what were the fundamental differences between Ne and Ni. I think Ni is more oriented toward ambitions and practical creativity when Ne is more about pure creativity and fantasy worlds.
@@kyurei4478 I just read this comment and noticed your user name as someone whom I have resonated with in this comment section. However I disagree with a couple of your thoughts here. Firstly, I’m assuming you’re INTJ because you said Ni dons are “determined and confident about what they want to do”. I see that with Ni-Te types, but not Ni-Fe types. Many INFJ/ENFJ types have a harder time making decisions and tend to overthink (maybe because they see the ramifications their actions could have on other people). I also disagree that Se types are the most likely to be conspiracy theorists. I tend to find many Ni types in the CT realm. They are ones seeing patterns from the data and making conspiratorial conclusions. If you are an Ni type who abhors conspiracy theories, perhaps you are drawing opposite conclusions from the patterns.
@@cathyhart3946 Good to know I guess? I mean, I don't see a problem with disagreeing, I'm not the absolute truth as far as I know. That's why having other opinions is important. That's only my take after all. So for a start, I often advise people to not try assuming a type based on simple comments because it's usually off and you are as well. But if I had to do the same thing I'd say you're probably a Te user yourself to interpret it that way. To me the kind of determination you're referring to is Te type of determination, generally more rational and rigid so it's easily visible. I'm talking about Ni type of determination which is more believing in your visions and being goal oriented. But there I have to disagree too, Fe users and Ni-Fe are also very determined about their convictions but it's less visible because it is in a soft and resilient way about what they think is goodness. INFJ/ENFJ types tend to have a harder time making LOGIC based decisions cause they have Ti not Te which lets things always more open because they think more about it. As you say it can also be because they see the ramifications their actions could have on other people. They're also questioning more if something is actually logical and not just arbitrary sometimes. But when it comes to EMOTIONAL based decisions, it's INTJ/ENTJ types who tend to have a harder time making decisions because they tend to be less connected to their emotions and otherthink how we should feel (probably also because sometimes they don't want to decide what's emotionally best for others because they can see how their actions would restraign someone's liberty). So I'd say you see it that way because you don't get what Fe type of determination is about (can't blame you cause as I said, it's not as straightforward). I heavily disagree on the fact Ni users are the conspiracy theorists though. I've already seen it many times from Se doms particularly and some claiming it themselves who tend to focus on one or two patterns which they base their intuition on to directly elaborate theories that are a poor evaluation of realistic probabilities. Ni users and particularly doms pick up fast on not credible theories because the amount of data regarding a pattern isn't sufficient or even non existent. That's how they can easily tell someone is lying sometimes for example and they're known for this. You'll see that when high Ni users think something, they will be less likely to share it because they themselves think that it is not certain enough yet (or if it happens that they do, you can't just take it for drawing conclusions too fast like anybody else cause they're Ni users and they've already thought more thoroughtly about it than most people would, or they have so much experience they know something is likely, doesn't mean they can't ever be wrong though, but they shouldn't be criticized for that). Low users will tend to share their views much more easily and quickly and can't be trusted as much because they are not as reasoned on the fact that they could be wrong even when to them it already seems certain. They tend to be too quick to be certain of their predictions due to lack of attention to patterns. For example, they could identify a pattern but not another that contradicts it and will settle for the one that goes in their direction. The Se users tend to be afraid or stressed by the invisible and consequently can either deny the existence of subtext or what isn't obvious easily or develop paranoid tendencies and interpret patterns too quick. Not too sure what you mean by the "CT realm" but high Ni users are naturally more connected to spirituality. They are in a healthy way though like a Science precisely because they try to find practical truth for the world in spirituality and don't easily fall for the first theory they see. It's its whole obscure topic but as a reminder, spirituality doesn't have to do with religion but more with metaphysics. I think what you say here is contradictory though because if Ni users are the ones seeing patterns from the data, they can't be the ones who make the conspiratorial conclusions because they analyze it more thoroughtly, or that would mean these conspirational conclusions are very likely, which can still be a possibility. Se doms and users are the ones who would quickly jump on conspiracy conclusions because of overconfidence and typically weak pattern recognition skills. To me that's exactly why having more low Ni users is important in the MBTI community to understand better what Ni is about and its value when some people struggle with it. People tend to not attribute things that depend on the Ni function because it is still too obscure and they decently use it or have Ne instead.
@@kyurei4478 I totally recognize your user name and seems I've talked to you in the past. Are you an ENFJ? I'm an ENFJ - so couldn't be lower on the Te front! I tend to know my mind as any most EJ types do. However, I often overthink (low Ti) and might hesitate to take action if I'm concerned about how my decisions affect others. I'm also interested in researching conspiracy theories (CT realm, as I called it). I haven't intuited a pattern of MBTI types and those interested - I encounter ALL types. I will say that Ni types might be slower to get on board and might be more thorough at researching before coming to conclusions. Your quote is exactly what I would be my take on it: "if Ni users are the ones seeing patterns from the data, they can't be the ones who make the conspiratorial conclusions because they analyze it more thoroughly, or that would mean these conspirational conclusions are very likely, which can still be a possibility."
@@kyurei4478 I'm an ENFJ, so lowest Te out there. As an EJ type, I do know my mind, but my baby Ti can overthink things and keep me from taking action at times. As far as conspiracy theories (CT's) go, you seem to be biased against them. It sounds like you are saying that a Ni dom would never believe them because CT's are wrong and Ni's are never wrong. But you did make this comment, that basically summarizes my thoughts on the matter: " if Ni users are the ones seeing patterns from the data, they can't be the ones who make the conspiratorial conclusions because they analyze it more thoroughly, or that would mean these conspirational conclusions are very likely, which can still be a possibility." And I will add that, I haven't intuited any patterns on MBTI types and CT beliefs. Any type can go down those rabbit holes - it's just the way they go about. Se types might jump on board quickly, but Ni types can get on board after researching and collecting patterns. Ne types like to look at all options, so might be tempted to keep researching crazy ideas, etc.
This video was super interesting! As an ISFP I was surprised how much of a difference the cognitive functions make when it's dom x inferior vs second x third... I'd really love to hear your thoughts on Te in your life!!
I’m an Ni dominant yet I could talk about my inferior (baby🤗) Se, if I wanted to. Especially because I work quite hard to use and develop my baby Se😌 I like that you clarified the fact that we all use all functions and that we simply have preferences. I’m right handed but it’s not like my left hand does nothing and I wouldn’t miss it dearly if I no longer had it! We even have a dominant eye, but we all still want both our eyeballs.
Thanks so much for sharing your perspective on Ni (and Se too!). I'm coming at it from the opposite side, as an INFJ. However, having spent most of my life in a stressed environment, I suspect I have a heaver reliance on Se. For Ni, it is like I collect little crumbs until there is a critical mass, and that is when Ni ah-ha hits. That ah-ha pattern is used to give access to any missing pieces [from past experiences]. I can just go with that intuitive "knowing" without knowing why. If I try to understand it [Ti], it takes a lot of effort!. I use Ti a lot at work, and it wears out my mind. Ti feels like abandoning Ni completely--like I'm trying to be a Ti-dom [and that might be my engrained stress grip]. Se seems much easier to use than Ti, but it might be my blindness of Se, and also a little mind trick. What I think I do with Se is, my Ni builds an an abstract model of my physical focus. I then rely mostly on that model inside my head. So, if I am stiching a pair of pants, I don't really see what I'm working on. I "see" an abstract "visual" awareness of the pants, needle, thread--fingers too. The incoming sensory info is there, but it is secondary, being used to make sure I don't get out of sync with reality. I'm mostly in my head, "seeing" as if I'm viewing a computer simulation. My mind follows the needle as I fly through the material in this simulation. However, I come back to my Se awareness as I try to poke the needle through the material, and not my finger! As a side-note, I very much get my motivation from my sensory expectations (but this is probably Si). When I think about doing something, I'll (always) have an instant awareness of what it will feel like. I'll strongly be aware of the comfort of eating creme filled cookies, the energy drain from cleaning the house or going to a social event, or the enjoyment of listening to music or having a philosophical discussion (like this!). It very much is the source of all my procrastination skills! As for my other function, Fe...I just take it for granted. Ni and Fe are besties and are inseperable. Do I ever use Ni without Fe?? ----- Oh! I'm also prone to giving 100% into my current activity. Is there any othe way? 😅And I also don't like going into the unknown when I have no data points to go by! If I have someone who will go with me to a new place, I can lean on my Fe to do that (heavily drawing from the friend's emotions and body language). I don't fit the INFJ template of planning ahead.
Some people develop their inferior functions or later or earlier in life I have noticed those that have high socioeconomic status tend to develop it quicker. I’m learning to develop my Se as an INTJ
Good luck. It took me 20 years of martial arts and many other studies and activities to really balance my Ni and Se. But worth every minute a hundred times over. 😁
Nothing I’ve found beats inline skating for forcing Ni down and staying in Se. Fall into Ni = fall on face. If you want Se with less road rash, playing an instrument works well. Lose yourself in Ni = lose your place in the piece you’re playing.
Thank you for the informative video Kristin. Ni is the first of the 3 functions that I think I was born without. My Se and Fi are even less developed, and Te is about the last function that I can use properly and reliably.
This is my blind function but I understand a lot of what it does because I understand the functions pretty well, and I noticed that I lacked it even before I knew about the cognitive functions. I'm particularly bad at seeing the big picture and at strategy and long-term planning and don't have much of a "gut instinct". A lot of my thinking is done consciously and I can normally point to why I think something, while Ni makes subconscious connections. One thing some people don't seem to understand about the cognitive functions is that each of them does a lot, and you can't narrow it down to one thing, if you think about it each one accounts for 1/8 of human decision-making. Also, they can overlap, I use Si instead of Ni in that if I've done something before I don't have to think about it. And Te and Fe sometimes come to the same conclusions about what is right for other people.
ISFP (allegedly) Short-term planning comes very naturally to me, but long term gives me internal dread. In terms of pattern, I suppose my Ni third makes me overuse it despite it not being practical for me. I want to use Ni for many things, but it makes me highly inefficient in an attempt to be efficient. Especially in a Te enviornment it comes out and I start «exploring» all the flaws, leading to perfectionism. I think that’s why I thought I was an INTP for so long. I thought me seeing «all the options», were me being creative etc, but no quite the opposite. I’m quite closed not open. I want to narrow things down, not broaden them, typically. I just want things to make sense and find a pattern in why and grab that to use in the future. Hence my interest in a lot of systems, any type that interests me and I can apply to people or hobbies. (As long as i have personally experienced its validity and i will constantly test that by applying it to reality and see if it fails and then reluctantly adjust my views only after a lot of opposing data) *insert einstein’s quote on insanity *
I might say ISFP Ni (I am one, too) likes to feel useful, but doesn't want too heavy of a workload. Short-term patterning requires considering less factors than long-term patterning, and the ISFP Ni feels good when it's used successfully, but gets overwhelmed when it has to coordinate too many data points at once. It relies on Se to limit its scope. I think one reason I went through 4 different types in the year or so that I have been seriously researching cognitive functions and MBTI was my Ni was examining things from a specific angle based on what I was thinking about at the time, but would think it had enough data points to render a judgment before it actually did because of Trickster Ne and then "I was definitely that type." But, then I would be faced with something that challenged the conclusion, and I would Ni that particular challenge and find myself arriving at a different conclusion. I also had a nagging feeling (maybe mature Fi?) that I wasn't really seeing the whole picture each time I did this, until I landed on ISFP (which I never got from any online test, by the way).
@@gargervon8697this was an amusing read because I can relate, as anything will derail my conclusions (in terms of mbti) because my reasonings are sometimes based on one outliar. Like, a new perspective makes me rethink everything. I am constantly doubting my type tbh. But ISFP can have many hats i’ve heard. Maybe we naturally want to relate to things, moreso the essence of something than the nitty gritty, and then when faced with the details we’re like hmm ok no this cannot fully represent me so no, but what can fully represent a person anyways? Only we can. I think I tend to overidentify with certain things too because when I do connect with something I want to share it and explore it as a part of me. I hope that made sense
@drodlaren I relate. I get fixated on a specific set of details and others kind of are out of sight, out of mind. But, I also say that's more proof that we have typed ourselves correctly, in a roundabout way. XD
@@gargervon8697i’m looking forward to, in three months time or so, see eachother in the comment section declaring we have another type haha. But yes I do hope I can settle with this one and it does make sense. How do you relate to Se though? I’m struggling with knowing how I do.
@drodlaren I have always learned best by doing. As a youngster, I was a lot more Se-oriented (though it was still very hard to get me to do something I wasn't sure I would like doing, if I had to pick an activity that I knew I would enjoy but had done many times before or one that I might enjoy, but had never tried, doing what I knew I would enjoy always won), and the Ni came out more as I was in my 20s and started to eclipse the Se, though I find now, in my late thirties, I am starting to want that Se stimulation more again. Though I am a lot more reflective and musing than I was, I am still very much connected to the physical world in terms of how I relate. I have a hard time imagining myself outside of a physical body. My daydreams and fantasies were generally about Se things - physical affection, being in a beautiful landscape with said partner, stargazing, taking meaningful action, even leading a group of people, at times. But the bottom line is how I seem to best take in information and learn from it is through engaging with that which gives me tangible feedback - the concrete. And I kind of build my Ni speculations around those things. Action over extensive ideation. One last addendum: Even so, I recently took a cognitive function test, for fun, and my Ni score was still a little higher than my Se - it is common for ISFPs to overidentify with their Ni over their Se.
As an injf-t it's been interesting where, it comes though in many ways for me these days, seeing those things that your saying liked my pandora radio where I always listen to my thumb 👍 up radio where the songs always show up how I'm feeling at that given time 😂😂😂 keep up the awesome work you do
I watched this video with my cat. She seemed to really like it. I struggled to make it through the whole half an hour because of my ENFP- and ADHDness. BUT I DID IT! :D Also now I'm really curious how Si shows up for me in my life (or how it doesn't). I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
I always find it funny how Ne-doms can have a hard time focusing on one thing when it's something Ni-doms are experts at. There is definitely interesting differences between Ne and Ni as well.
As an ENTP, my parents always know me as being intelligent yet somehow lazy, easily distracted and easy to get bored of something. As I grew older I face Si and Fi challenges. The biggest challenge is, idk who I am and what I want in life. Quarter life crisis hit me badly. I think by meeting and befriending Si users and Fi users help me to understand myself little more. My ISTJ friend teach me how to stay dicipline, and get things done. She will got angry if she knows I am postponing and delaying my schedule lol. My ENFP brother also help me to deal with my Fe child, I got easily hurt by rejections and how to deal with that. I think I am blessed with amazing people around me, though...I am lil bit controversial since I know lot of people doesn't like me but I have to focus to people who love and supporting me 🥰
Ni to me is truth/meaning and everything else that comes along with it serves the deeper meaning beyond the surface. Multiple layers being sifted thru simultaneously in an effort to find some commonality or patern or correlation…its all in the service of truth and meaning. My wife is an ESFP, I drive her crazy with Ni. To me time doesn’t come into play…if something is true it’s true…it was true yesterday, today or tomorrow…it’s just that the implication or application of the truth appears future oriented. I think when Ni is examined the reason Ni is endlessly sifting thru realities beyond realities is not discussed or understood unless it’s your main function…its the insatiable desire for truth understanding meaning of all things and everything…it never gets full. It always wants/needs more. ( Hope that wasn’t too incoherent)
Ni is truth in meaning contrary to Ti that is truth in fact. That is the reason why both can easily be confused sometimes. Both are searching for a different kind of truth: the "what" and the "why". Easy way to differenciate it is imagining Ti as a scientist and Ni as a detective. As an INFJ, to differenciate both in me can be hard at times. The truth in meaning can't really be contested because even if things didn't play out the way you predicted, it doesn't make the reasoning wrong, it's just because sensory elements interfered with the initial prediction that it becomes wrong in reality cause reality is constantly in movement and one thing influence another thing, it's the butterfly effect. That doesn't mean your prediction couldn't have been correct based on the data inherited from your pattern recognition. It's like scientists who mathematically theorize something that is logically correct but doesn't find any application in the real world. The calculation is totally correct and they're right, but yet there is no practical use for the equation.
Good explanation, thank for sharing your story, it's great you enjoy Ni and trust the patterns & yourself. I am happy you mention it's the essence, idea. We are somewhat similar our 1 & 4, Ni-Se always working together. It's the same for me Ni 1 - Se 4 : more Se data I have, more Ni is accurate/precise, less blurry with the time. Normally in your case Fi bring the Ni, like my Te bring the Se. It's true our 4th we can't use us like someone who have it at 1st, we have to accept and respect the position of our functions. It's great you use the patterns of behaviors you recognized in psychological types. Don't stop at the 4 functions model, better to use the 8 functions to integrate the shadow/unconscious side. Definitions of Ni don't explain all the faculties of it, and how it really works. I recommend to watch video of INTJ & INFJ creators to better understand it. I stop my comment here, cause I already explained Ni many times in videos, and I will remake a complete one about it in the future. I would like to know, where did you learn the explanations of Ni ?
This particular explanation of Ni was unscripted and off the top of my brain. But I've learned a lot about it from other UA-cam channels and my own life experience!
@@dearkristin Thank you for the reply. You did great ! I did the same, and I definitely learned & integrated more from life experience & observations, and thinking by myself.
* parks their bulldozer in the comment section for a brief moment * I think you have a really good point on the inferior function when you say that it will never improve to such a degree that you become a 'natural' user. Even when one takes the time to improve it later in life, you are still more comfortable and familiar with dom/aux and tert function even. As a result you will use them more frequently to solve problems, to meet the challenges of life and also (usually) in your work. I think that a person their work leans into the dominant functions a lot, most of us do what we do best after all. Only in your leisure time and perhaps when you completely buckle under stress the inferior function is more visible or accessible. My Fi inferior has improved, like your inferior Ni has, but even at the age of 36 it is not yet great. It took me a long long time to figure out identity and establish core values. Identity is quite solid now, however the expression of it is still changeable. I do have a set of core values, but I notice that if it is practical/useful/necesarry or whatever I am quite capable of going against them. BTW: Improving my tert Se has been a lifesaver for me!!! Almost literally. It has made me more relaxed, appreciative of the finer things in life and I can use Se activities as stress relief. Since its my tert function I do over indulge from time to time, but hey......I work hard so I feel that I deserve that :P
It was interesting for me (Ni dom who struggles with Se) to get to know how would Se doms struggle with Ni and how they deal with it, quite insightful.
Dear Kristin! Just got here so thanks for being so considerate unpacking Ni. Glad it's not literally no subtext unpacking Ni, given the blood font you used, since I already wear Ni-patch. after discovering your work a couple weeks ago starting with your "INFJ reacting to 'INFJ tier-ranking the 16 personalities'" vid, I took the 16 personalities test every day and learned quite a bit about myself: I got INTP, ISTJ, ISTP, ESTP-T in the morning ENTJ, ENTP, ENFJ-T at lunch INTP, ISTJ, ISTP, and ESTP-T at night which I guess suggests that I'm an ambivert lunch person except when the food is good in the morning and night and when pretty ladies smile at me before smacking me when I ignored them because I didn't think to care and just wanted the eggs and steak since that's when I got ESTP. I related to all the descriptions to the T though for all the types I mentioned, and by that I mean "turbulent" not the "thinker" according to those women...I'm sorry, but after I work out, I want FOOD! Smiles and saying "hi" don't give me protein! Whatever... Before your two recent skits, I never heard a single thing about 16 personalities except INFJ is the type of an Austrian-born German politician and INTJ was Batman, and then instructed everybody I knew about those types using your skits as a reference. People had many questions, so I appreciate this video!
I am an INFJ, and my 6 year old son is supposedly ESFP. I am so catastrophizing his future bc he doesn't think of consequences. He doesn't like discussing things from kindergarten, he just wants to play, have fun, help me. He is just doing. When I try to stop him and reflect on potential things he will face, it is hard. I just don't want him to get in trouble in future. I want to create a good inner voice for him (using my authority being his parent). For me understanding consequences is key.
Se seems like an interesting function to have as a dominant function. I have a feeling people who do have it, find them selves in horrible situations if their intuition isn't strong enough. But I get it. I think you are right. It is good to develop a tool belt of use cases to prevent future issues from reoccurring. As an Ni dom or INTJ with Se inferior, what I have learned is your 4th function can help humble you. When I am caught up in "controlling the world", I realize I can't do that and value the current experiences in my life. By mother is still waiting for a phone call. I can still go back to school, I can still finish that project I love so dearly. Do I have ADHD? IDK but at least I know where I can go to feel human [Se].
Looking forward to listening to this with my ESFP wife. We tried to discuss Ni inferior a few times but it's pretty hard to grasp. This might give some perspective.
Thanks for the Ni dive. I hear from this video you’re joining ranks of You Tubers adding music to their dialog. Of course that is your creative Liberty. I’d just like to weigh in that some people (me included) find it distracting. You have a lovely voice and great things to say, the music just clutters it up for me. 😢. (Just my two cents. Carry on)
oh boy I'm not even sure if imma leave this comment lol. I really like the dynamics with my ESFP friend as an INFJ but it gets too draining pretty quickly. I think our types round out each other pretty well when we practice improving our subconscious around each other. So now your dealing with INTJ - ESTP like dynamics I like to point out some funny things I noticed with NI-Se flip-flopping & my ESFP friend is always wondering how the heck can I predict so many outcomes of events(especially with human behavior) & for me I'm like how can you do so much crap without a game plan? I lol'd around the 11min mark I was going to start mentioning how my ESFP is always causing destruction in the streets & almost excited to get banned from bars LMAO he always gives me the Se details of what's going on IRL and comes to me to make the game plan/scheme. he likes to call me INTJ characters when we watch shows and my Ni-Se was already noticed he likes that humor so I act more like an INTj then INFj around him. Its funny too cause I'm always like how do you end up in that situation or like thinking that kinda chaos long term is too much, but then when he ask my insight on game plans or to scheme on people he always says I'm dangerous or I'm nuts (just for my thoughts). His Se is very noticeable in group chats as I notice I get pretty bored without him and when he joins things get chaotic as I absorb his energy. I also like to point out I think our humor together is funny because of Te-Ti child functions & the blind spots. I feel like immediate improvements come from the NI-Se development & the Parent Functions make us well rounded together with time is that Zelda lo-fi Forest Temple at 25mins? ;)
My young son is obviously an Se dom (he's too young for me to tell which kind). I can say it's a huge struggle to get him to think outside the moment. He doesn't think about the past or the future or what might happen when he acts on impulse, just whatever he's doing. I'm afraid he's going to jump out of a tree or something.
I’ve noticed as an INTJ interacting with ESFPs whenever I tell them an idea or what think about something I see their Ni working in the background. Or becoming very investigative. I noticed me an INTJ understands the same thing as my ESFP dad
Ni is my dominant function. I recantly took a language certificate exam and I failed, because I was reading too deeply into question, doing a lot of over-interpretation. I do not recommend it.
As ENTJ who is setting up everything right now I learn again and again my necessity to be around people in order to be effective. What I have not figured out yet is how to reliably deep dive into subject matters. I know I am very capable of it, but I am not getting into these phases where I just hide and study for months on end, until somethibg is done. MBTI nerds say you gotta use your introverted functions to do long term constructive things, but how do you use petty feeling Fi and random thought Ni to do that.
So it sounds like Ni users are most likely dealing with an incomplete data set when developing a conclusions which explains that Ni may not always lead to a “correct “ conclusion; so can lead a person or people astray. Then the Ni user may not or cannot see the error do to their blind spots.
@@EresirThe1st … at least you can gain enough information to make a good enough decision with what you already know. The art of it all is using what you have the best you can.
It's interesting that Se doms are able to NOT engage in inferior Ni in their life. The fact that a life=sensory it's very different when you're Ni dom and Se inferior. I am one and 1) life on a farm, with a ESFP father who kind of forced me to Se since I don't even remember, 2) I always did, and I still DO enjoy Se activities, even though back then they could be pretty stressfull (but not too much) when done not out of my will. But it was a good thing, as it taught me to cope with the sensory. After all that is what living is about. Ni was never a problem for me, after all what is it? I think it's quite not useful in life. Maybe a little bit, then yes. The problems always come from Se- you either do nothing or you do too much. It's just hard to balance the needed amount of action in life.
I've been overusing Ni for my whole life, and I'm very young, so that's kinda expected. It's like your experience overusing Se in early 20's but the other way. I do look forward to develop my Se better in the future (sound ironic lol). I live with a lot of sensors, so when talking to them it feels weird and it's like I'm "taking conclusions out of nowhere", or that I'm overthinking things (that last one I can agree with sometimes lol). And it can be so so frustrating when I can't "prove" my point. I know I know, but how to comunicate that? I do it in a Te "authoritan, stubborn way" but I know it's not enough. I can't show it. I feel like I'm a "witness of life" sorta. Watching from a distance and wondering my mind as I watch it. Like it's all a movie and I'm trying to figure out the plot and the end. I feel so detached from here and now that when I'm reading a book and "seeing" the story in my head it feels more livid, I feel more "alive" - and it's literally just imagination - than when I'm actually experiencing something. Great video as always, Kristin! I'm new in your channel, but I loved it, really. I think it's very interesting and important to see how it is like to be on the otherside of the story. Probably it's not just me, but I can "idealize" my aspirational function in a way, it sounds awesome but I wonder how it feels like (I've watched your video on Se, great video as well), but I also wondered how it is to have such natural function (to me) as something to overcome. Anyways, wish you well, Kristin, congrats on the family❤❤
INFP by that quick test. But F and T where quite equal scores. I don't see F and T traits as that they rule each other out. For my primary interests (job, studies, many hobbies) were usually about science, tech, logics, analytical thinking stuff. It's like you switch into a different mode context dependent ... ( But a 92% introversion score and 86% intuition score made me wonder, whether I subconsciously manipulated that test ... lol ... )
I have a theory on the perceiving functions Ni start from the object from se, its implicated background is perceived. For example the notion of space itself. Space is not materially but it is the background for any physical objects, it implies the possibility of movement of those objects, they can be in some place other than the place they currently in. That's why ni people are good at noticing implications and have a general sense of how things should go as they can perceive the space of possibilities clearly. On the other hand in high ni user. Se is degraded, all the actual physical qualities or directly sensible qualities are being degraded. The temperature, color, texture are forgotten but instead onlu used as an evidence for well there is at least something. When being hit, the pain is forgotten but only tells you that you are being hit, casual efficacy without presentational immedicacy. Si on the other hand is the perceiving of such background directly, that's why they are very sensitive to little change and details. They are embedded in their environment. Comparing to Se they strive for harmony, to minimize hindrance which for them are ne. In high Si user, hindrance are being neutralized as things that used to be hindrance become the particular quirk of the environment. Tools become familiar that it just become a part of their body that cannot be noticed unless there is something wrong. (Heidegger's ready at hand, which announces present at head when broken) It is homeostatic at the highest level. But sometimes too much is too much, it reach a certain boiling point they literally explode Ne is from si background. What are the possible or implicated object that can be materialized. Ni is about space of possibilities but Ne is about actually bringing those possibilities into actual existence. What is hindrance for si is possibilities for ne. Se is probably the closest to what we think of perception normally. It is literally just seeing things. Things has physical presence certain kind of force. If you are being hit you feel pain. The grass are green the sun is bright and red. Though we normally of perception as se, but it is impossible to function without all 4 functions.
“Did someone say Ni?”
**hundreds of INxJs jump into the comment section**
🤣 yeah
😂
Ni is the most overhyped function, in my opinion as an Ni-dom (INTJ).
Absofuckinglutely 🤣
Spot-on. (INFJ)
This is a great metaphor, thank you. I'mma steal it. 😎
This!
Challenge accepted.

What has been most surprising to me is I actually didn't struggle much to build my Se skills.
@@lisadee7150 Are you INTJ?
INTJ here, a video all about Ni !! I opened my coffin early for this 😈
haha, same.
Though not just early 20s, but the entire 20s, teens, and early 30s.
People even question our visions precisely because they don't develop their intuition when we know ourselves we have enough pattern recognition to make claims."
My Si dom husband struggles to trust my judgment because I don't always have concrete data.
I like the Horror fonts in the thumbnail and the sherlock vibe with the photo with the evil left eye, the curious right eye and the restrained smile.
The editing is also horror-ific
The detective is the most concrete and common example of the application of (Ni) in real life.
Thanks for watching and commenting, Trina! 😁
coming from an INTJ (an Ni DOM), introverted intuition IS peering through the noise and distilling the desired outcome you might wish of whatEVER down to its most basic/crucial/essential components. though its not exactly the same thing, Ni IS akin to deductive reasoning on STEROIDS. THATS THE easiest way to think about it.
THATS ALL. :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
ABSOLUTELY.
FOR SURE.
- (again) INTJ
As an INFJ, “deductive reasoning on steroids” is how I’m going to explain Ni from now on.
Trying to combine the "brain" and the "brawn" like Professor Hulk. xD
INTJ here:
I personally always imagined my Ni like a giant spiderweb on the surface of a lake.
Thanks!
Yay I'm glad you got something out of the video!
Feel the same😍
I love you and your channel. May Jesus keep blessing you❤️🙏🏻
INTJ here and I have the same feeling towards my own long term vision.
As an enfp I just LOVE your channel, Se dom is amazing
That's a so wholesome video. There are so many life advices in this, whatever listener's type.
I’ve been trying to figure out Ni for forever!!!! I can’t wait for this one!!!
I have some real-life examples, if you would like to hear (I'm an INTJ).
I would love to hear @hollyucinogen

When others see chance, I see cost."
By the way, midway trough watching the "INFJ reacting to "INFJ tier-ranking the 16 personalities" two weeks ago I saw a pattern and made a note -"stay tuned for more of Kristin`s videos on Ni" 😁
(edit) I would be interested in how Ni manifests in the blind spot (7th) too, for ESFJ and ESTJ, if we can get into those shadow functions.
Are you an INFJ?
@@jameswilkerson4412 INTJ here
(I wondered if I could be a mistyped Ti-focused INFJ, but after observing the real deal I know I am most definitely not Te blind like that 😄)
Estj's ni blindspot is basically companies, such as Disney, making stupid decisions that'll bite them in the ass later.
And btw, imagine if her baby will be Ni dom, INTJ especially 🤣🤣
I love your videos Kristin!!
I also need to calm down sometimes
And ig I should try to trust my Ni a bit more, -when im not using it as a form of escapism- there are situations were I was right about something.
My brother didn't immediately realize that a huge ego and insecurity are kinda tangent to each other and the only word he could use to describe them was CRAZY 😂
It's so funny to think that insecure people could look insane to rational people/Ti doms 😅
I don't really know the whole situation but I can't help but sympathize a bit
However I
disagree with a couple of your thoughts here.
But you did make this comment, that basically summarizes my thoughts on the matter:
" if Ni users are the ones seeing patterns from the data, they can't be the ones who make the conspiratorial conclusions because they analyze it more thoroughly, or that would mean these conspirational conclusions are very likely, which can still be a possibility."
And I will add that, I haven't intuited any patterns on MBTI types and CT beliefs. Any type can go down those rabbit holes - it's just the way they go about. Se types might jump on board quickly, but Ni types can get on board after researching and collecting patterns. Ne types like to look at all options, so might be tempted to keep researching crazy ideas, etc.
Thank you for the video. ESTP here. Appreciate the insights! Hope your pregnancy goes well :)
Especially because I work quite hard to use and develop my baby Se😌
I like that you clarified the fact that we all use all functions and that we simply have preferences.
-----
Oh!
Some people develop their inferior functions or later or earlier in life
I have noticed those that have high socioeconomic status tend to develop it quicker.
I’m learning to develop my Se as an INTJ
Try mindfulness meditation for that. Se is about noticing things and ignoring the big picture.
You look gorgeous! You’re glowing girl ✨💖
Aw thanks!
This was amazing. These points and information was very helpful. I'm an ENTJ and it helps me understand my Ni as well.

Well done! You've got new pattern.
Ni is the best function. Good that you have gotten better at it. You are not hopeless, after all.
😂
Also now I'm really curious how Si shows up for me in my life (or how it doesn't).
I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
Haha amazing! Thanks for watching, Crayon! 🖍️
That’s brilliant!! I’m happy for you! 🎉😄
Say hello to your cat from me! ❤
My cat is also sitting next to me right now! :))
Know what adds color to Intuitives’ lives? Getting out of our heads and just ACTING, per sensing functions!
You’re glowing. ❤

I think you have a really good point on the inferior function when you say that it will never improve to such a degree that you become a 'natural' user.
Glad it's not literally no subtext unpacking Ni, given the blood font you used, since I already wear Ni-patch.
after discovering your work a couple weeks ago starting with your "INFJ reacting to 'INFJ tier-ranking the 16 personalities'" vid, I took the 16 personalities test every day and learned quite a bit about myself:
I got INTP, ISTJ, ISTP, ESTP-T in the morning
ENTJ, ENTP, ENFJ-T at lunch
INTP, ISTJ, ISTP, and ESTP-T at night
which I guess suggests that I'm an ambivert lunch person except when the food is good in the morning and night and when pretty ladies smile at me before smacking me when I ignored them because I didn't think to care and just wanted the eggs and steak since that's when I got ESTP.
As I developed my inferior Se I indulge, but nice things, and travel, and starting doing physical activities golf and swimming
Love Kristin's INTJ side😊
I feel like immediate improvements come from the NI-Se development & the Parent Functions make us well rounded together with time
is that Zelda lo-fi Forest Temple at 25mins? ;)
Great video. Will watch the Se one. Can you do a video on your subjective impressions of Fe Critic?
We are the knights who say, "Ni!"
Hah. That’s how the A.I. would say it too…
Its soo good to see a healthy esfp, i always despise an esfp because how unreliable they are. And you are the 0.5%
Please, I really want to hear more about the Ne - Si axis, and how they work together. - an ENFP
Loved this vid
My young son is obviously an Se dom (he's too young for me to tell which kind). I can say it's a huge struggle to get him to think outside the moment. He doesn't think about the past or the future or what might happen when he acts on impulse, just whatever he's doing. I'm afraid he's going to jump out of a tree or something.
I’ve noticed as an INTJ interacting with ESFPs whenever I tell them an idea or what think about something I see their Ni working in the background. Or becoming very investigative.
I noticed me an INTJ understands the same thing as my ESFP dad
Congratulations 🎉
Enfp here! Ne has that impulsive party phase too! It wasn't until that annoying Si voice got strong enough that i changed!
You do have to admit the Ne is the fun one.😎
Ni is my dominant function. I recantly took a language certificate exam and I failed, because I was reading too deeply into question, doing a lot of over-interpretation. I do not recommend it.
I heard the Chrono Trigger soundtrack - thumbs up.
(INTJ) You sit down and DO it, inspiration comes.
I feel like you are talking about my ESTP son in many ways😅
He is better at missing some of the errors.
So it sounds like Ni users are most likely dealing with an incomplete data set when developing a conclusions which explains that Ni may not always lead to a “correct “ conclusion; so can lead a person or people astray. Then the Ni user may not or cannot see the error do to their blind spots.
Inevitably, because a data set can never be complete. But at a certain point you have enough to get the answer.
I am one and
1) life on a farm, with a ESFP father who kind of forced me to Se since I don't even remember,
2) I always did, and I still DO enjoy Se activities, even though back then they could be pretty stressfull (but not too much) when done not out of my will.
( But a 92% introversion score and 86% intuition score made me wonder, whether I subconsciously manipulated that test ... lol ... )
Pregnancy? Congratulations🎉 are in order to you & yours. 👏

I have a theory on the perceiving functions
Ni start from the object from se, its implicated background is perceived.
But sometimes too much is too much, it reach a certain boiling point they literally explode
Ne is from si background.
Kristin ik this is unrelated but what lip product are you wearing?
Shade "smoky rose" by Revlon! It suits my deep winter colouring 😏
Huh... it never occurred to me that the ESFP stack is just the reverse of INTJ stack. Maybe we're not so different.
We also share those same functions with ENTJ and ISFP you know..
Kristin, what for you is the difference between a thing making you think “ooh new experience” and “oof not enough data points”?
