    Very unfortunate accident, we all wish it would have ended in a proper face off. But both the Swedish and the Norwegian team performed excellently and deserved the top spots!

    I watched the video at speed 0.25 and repeated the moment at 2:00 multiple times, and here is what happened according to what I can see:
    1. Ingrid at the lead. Hanna behind. The track has space for 4 - 5 biathletes next to each other - not narrow at all. Ingrid is at the middle of the track, slightly towards the inner side of the bend. Hanna is just preparing to start overtaking Ingrid.
    2. The camera switches to the next shot - where Ingrid falls. Hanna is still behind and closes in on Ingrid. Hanna puts her right ski in front of Ingrid. The tip of Hanna’s ski goes between Ingrid’s legs. There was loads of space for Hanna to not go into Ingrid and instead - move more towards the inner section of the bend. If you pause the video, there is comfortable space to fit 1 more biathlete in the free space between Hanna and the wall.
    3. Ingrid puts her left and right poles at almost identical angles compared to ground. The angle difference matches what you’d expect as Ingrid is on her right leg, and her left ski is in the air. As her left pole is just about to touch the snow, Hanna’s ski (or ski boot) is at that very spot at that very time, so Ingrid’s left pole ends up in Hanna’s right ski (or ski boot). As Hanna is at this part of the leg stroke that retracts her right leg in, Hanna pulls Ingrid’s left pole towards Hanna - at a steep angle, if you pause the video. Again, that only happened because Hanna got way too close to Ingrid, despite having space to fit another biathlete between where Hanna ended up and the wall.
    4. Hanna puts her pole between Ingrid’s skis, and Ingrid falls.
    CONCLUSION: 100% Hanna's fault for coming way too close to Ingrid, especially given the fact that she had so much free space. That wasn't a fair move from Hanna, and the risk she took was fully her choise, and no choise whatsoever from Ingrid.

      Correction - in this video, it looks like this happened at a bend, but as I replayed back the original TV broadcast, I saw that Ingrid fell on a straight section - not a bend! And Ingrid DID NOT turn towards Hanna. Ingrid was maintaining her straight forward direction of travel. Again - Hanna moved too close to Ingrid despite having so much space. I won't have the TV footage after 2 days, so I wanted to verify this, as so many people comment wrong here whilst potentially watching at normal speed, without repeat, and on small (phone) screen. Incredible how IBU didn't disqualify Sweden. If this was Skiing, not Biathlon, the joury probably would have reacted.

    • @NovaLand
      @NovaLand 12 годин тому +1

      If you slow it, you see that Ingrid puts her pole at the back of Hannas ski and pushes Hannas right ski into her left and looses a bit of balance. Hanna counters it by putting her pole futher to the right, which it in its turn blocks ingrids leg and ingrid falls. What leads up to Ingrid and Hanna being so close to each other is one thing, but the accident itself is due to Ingrid messing with Hanns right ski.

    • @Daniel_Borisov
      @Daniel_Borisov 11 годин тому +1

      @@NovaLand I did say in my comment that Ingrid's pole went into Hanna's ski. But that happened only because Hanna got so close to Ingrid that Hanna's ski invaded the spot where Ingrid's pole naturally landed without Ingrid extending it towards Hanna. When Ingrid's pole landed in Hanna's ski, Hanna pulled her leg inwards, and this pulled Ingrid's pole, looking as if Ingrid herself pushed her pole into Hanna. Watch it frame by frame at speed 0.25, and you will see how Ingrid's pole is pulled from Ingrid's "personal space" if you can call it that to Hanna. This key difference in the video is only visible if literally watching frame by frame and toggling pause with the computer keyboard, on a computer or tv screen - not on a small phone screen and normal speed. One of Eurosport's commentators did say that he thought he saw the moment when Hanna's ski pulled Ingrid's pole, but he wasn't sure and said that super slow motion is needed. The other commentator said what you said, which I don't blame - I was only able to see the full story when meticulously slowing down, replaying and viewing at 1080p on a large monitor. The commentators agreed that Ingrid was maintaining the optimal middle trajectory in a straight line, and Hanna had plenty of space to not get into Ingrid.

  • @EKR11
    @EKR11 18 годин тому +12

    In slow motion, it is clear that this was an unfortunate accident; Hana's legs became slightly entangled, causing her leg to swing toward Ingrid's legs. It was simply an unlucky incident. It’s most regrettable that it ended this way, which certainly took away some of the joy of victory from Hana herself and caused much disappointment for Ingrid. However, such moments only make you stronger, so everything is okay. Ingrid will come back stronger than before and will have a lot of motivation.

      I think Ingrid's pole hit Hannah's shoe and it looks like that's what pushed Hannah`s legs together.

    • @SubtleForces
      @SubtleForces 11 годин тому

      @@TheTenoon I agree with you. If you go frame by frame. It seems Ingrid accidentally planted her pole on Hanna's shoe or ski, pushed, destabilized her, she then planted her poles wide to catch herself and that tripped Ingrid.

      If you watched it in slow motion, you surely also noticed that Ingrid hit Hanna's right foot with her ski pole, which made Hanna lose her balance and that's what caused her to throw her arm out and trip Ingrid up.

      @shineonyoucrazydiamond824 Fair point, but Simon still had some 10 seconds to erase on Tandrevold when the Norwegian finally crossed the line, so Ingrid and Hanna wouldn't have to be worried about finishing 3rd. It's clear Hanna didn't do it on purpose and wasn't particularly happy with the way the race eventually ended, but you know, it's easy to apologize when you're the one that comes out as the winner...

    This was nothing but an accident with an outcome neither the athletes or the fans wanted, but shit happens and the jury assessed it as a race incident. I love both Hanna and Ingrid and I'm just happy this didn't happen at the world championships or the Olympics because that would have been heartbreaking. That's why Hanna immediately went over to Ingrid to apologize and gave her a hug and Ingrid responded by saying "I know, it happens" and gave Hanna a hug back. They are friends, shows sportsmanship and respect for each other and fans should do the same. Ingrid even had to post on social media that everything was fine and that she and Hanna hugged it away with a photo of them both looking happy because "fans" has been acting terrible towards Hanna. This isnt how true biathlon fans acts! We support our athletes but we show respect for all athletes in this sport. I for instance hope everything is ok with Oceane Michelon after todays race and that she is well after knowing she needed medical treatment after the race. We are a family, the biathlon family! ❤️

    At first I thought it was an accident only. But it seems there might be a foul -albeit unwilling- from Hannah.
    I can't decide as I can't suspect Hannah of cheating. But I think the 100% accident explanation is questionable.
    So sorry for Ingrid.
    (I'm neutral btw.)
    Anyway, great race from both Norway and Sweden, congratulations and thanks for the show.
    France on the third place is fine enough for me. They did what they could but were not the better team today.

    • @hylianchriss
      @hylianchriss 18 годин тому +6

      It was an accident, Hanna doesn't cheat nor harbor any ill intent towards her opponents. She feels just as awful about the accident as Ingrid does, and was crying and apologizing instead of celebrating. It was a "race incident". Hanna had a slim opening to pass, as she's the faster skier, but Ingrid (most likely intentionally) blocked the gap by moving left instead of giving proper space. They got their equipment tangled, Ingrid got her pole stuck on Hanna's shoe - the fall could have happened to either of them in that moment.

    • @Opitoukisskiss
      @Opitoukisskiss 18 годин тому +2

      @@hylianchriss Yes, that sounds acceptable.
      However, generally speaking, in many sports (and other things), an accidental foul remains a foul and may lead to a penalty. In this race, if the jury decided there was no foul, so be it.

      She didn't trip her. Ingrid moved left when she should have moved right to not intentionally block the faster passer, and got her own pole caught on Hanna's shoe. It was an accident, a "race incident" as it's often called. Hanna might just as easily have been the one to fall when they got their equipment tangled. It's incredibly unfortunate, but there was no ill intention and no clear fault.
