  • Many of you have asked me to listen to Tom MacDonald and today is a double whammy because his song “Facts” also features Ben Shapiro. I have heard MacDonald before in one of Dax’s remixes of “To Be a Man”. And I have seen some of Shapiro’s videos on UA-cam. I admit that I am looking forward to hearing Shapiro sing!
This song addresses many of the “woke” issues facing America today: gender identity, racial tensions, abortion, gun control, just to name a few. I don't know what either of these two men singing believe. They refer to the royal we. Who are we? Does “we” represent Republicans, Christians, the anti-woke contingent, or just Tom and Ben?
I am coming at this song from a Pastor’s perspective. As a follower of Jesus Christ, how does this song resonate with me? The gospel is offensive. It confronts us all with our sins, our shortcomings, our failures. All of which points towards our desperate need for a Savior, that we are in need of forgiveness. God has made it pretty clear how we are to live in the Bible. We all struggle and fall short of God’s righteous standard. But while the Christians message is offensive, and will be met with hostility, our actions should be so loving that our deeds cannot be argued with. I go in depth, much more than I probably should have in this video into the Apostle Peter’s words to the church in his letter entitled, 1 Peter in the Bible. All this to say that our aim is not to be offensive, but submissive to Christ and the servants of all.
Thank you for taking the time to watch.

Tom is not Republican or Liberal (Democrat), he says he's 'not religious but walks with Christians', he doesn't like labels or man organised religion. Many of Tom's songs come over as he has faith and his story is he was at rock bottom when he changed his life around and the direction of his music music, making music with a purpose. He makes social commentary music and inspiring songs. See - Castles - Fighter - Angels - Sober - Stronger Version - Church.

Interesting. I knew nothing of Tom's back story going into this song. His music does seem to have a purpose beyond just trying to make a catchy beat.

To answer a popular question Ben wrote his own verse. He actually had to rewrite it, because his first version was actually too “out there”. It had to be bad for Tom to say he needed to change it. 😂 And Tom has placed #1 on billboards at least 40 times with his singles and features combined. He got six number one billboards just in 2023 alone in a row! “Facts” was number one on iTunes for almost 2 solid weeks. Tom has received number one billboards for holding number one on iTunes for less than that timeframe.

I was curious if he wrote his own part or if it was handed to him.

Tom McDonald and Ben Shapiro together on a music track sounds like a round of cards against humanity.

Tom first met Ben back in 2019 and they didn’t speak again until 2023. Tom was on one of Ben’s Podcasts last year and at first they were joking about being with Tom on a song one day because people have jokingly referred to Tom as the “Ben Shapiro of rap” 🤣 After the podcast Tom went to Nova and talked to her about it. Tom and Ben ultimately decided that it might just be something good and they knew it would be really fun. I am more than happy that they did this!!

    ‼️NEW SUBSCRIBER‼️
    TOMS STORY:
Tom MacDonald is 100% independent! He’s had major record labels after him daily for at least 6 years and he turns them ALL down! After you listen to a few of his songs, especially the music industry and sad rappers, you’ll understand why. He writes all of his songs, makes his beats, and his girlfriend Nova Rockafeller shoots and edits all of his videos! That’s why dear rappers is so simplistic because they were just starting out really.
He dabbled in bands and had managers in the past, but that’s why he struggled so much and that’s why he wasn’t as successful as he should’ve been until he wrote dear rappers. That’s after he had cut everybody out and started doing things his way on his time with no middleman! He spent about nine months battling crippling depression. He contemplated suicide several nights and he was a severe alcoholic! After what seemed to be an eternity, he spiritually came out of that depression and quit everything cold turkey, not only alcohol but also marijuana and certain anxiety medication. Him and Nova could barely pay rent to keep a home after that but he stayed strong and ultimately wrote Dear Rappers which was his very first video to go viral, and the rest is history!
He shoots his videos wherever is convenient whether it’s in his own home, in his backyard, or in an alley! He will even go in grocery stores and randomly shoot a scene for a video lol. He personally signs albums ordered by his fans (for a short time with each new drop) and he also packages and ships the albums and all merchandise with close family and friends assistance hangovergang.com. He builds the sets for all of his videos! Also, he used to be a carpenter as well as a professional wrestler in Canada, he’s from Mission British Columbia. He spent some time in college but that just wasn’t where his life was going. He had some experiences with the illuminati, not sure for how long or what exactly the nature of that was, but I know that he left to follow Christianity!
The set for clown world was in his backyard l! He took number one on iTunes with “best rapper ever” beating Eminem’s entire last new album!! Recently he took number one from Cardi B on iTunes with clown world! He’s taken the spot from her to number one multiple times! He’s also taken number one on billboards top emerging new artist! He made number one recently on hip-hop Billboard charts and number two in all genres! He also charted on seven billboards with Nova Rockafeller and Brandon Hart which included 2 number ones with “No Good Bastard’s” and made it on 7 MORE billboards with “Church”! He also just got three number ones and several other charts on billboards with “snowflakes“, and 10 spots on billboards including 2 number ones with “Brainwashed“!! He also got 2 more number ones on billboards with Adam Calhoun “New World Order”!
He dropped something very different in his colab album “As Far as the Stars” with Nova and Brandon Hart! He dropped 2 albums 9/3/21 #UsAgainstTheWorld #NoGutsNoGlory. Available now to order on iTunes or Amazon Music is the collab album with Adam Calhoun “The Brave” and 2 solo albums that dropped 11/18/22 “Renegade” and “The Revolution” only on Tom’s website! I hope you have fun getting to know him as much as I have! #HangovergangForever🔥🏆🤘⭐️

Yes, his I statement starts off the song but his I transforms to we. Part of his chorus is, “we ain’t selling drugs, we ain’t gonna overdose, we ain’t pushing guns and promoting stripper poles, we won’t turn your sons into thugs or your daughters into hoes.”

I don't disagree with your point, though I do think context is important, and music is often a reflection of passion. So, it's not how we feel all the time, but (much like when Jesus himself was angered) it's a moment, representing a breaking point between our beliefs and morality vs. what we see in the world. I think you make a lot of good points. I know when friends of mine want to protest for women's rights, I often voice the option of taking care of those hurt in women's shelters or educating them with ways that they are as beautiful and not "less than" anyone else in the eyes of God, or by offering numbers for safe places for them to reach out to. Because it's a far more peaceful method of fighting for women than rioting. However, one does reach a point of climax and breaking in patience, I feel like that's more what's being represented here than a constant disrespect for anyone that politically disagrees with them.

I understand how this song represents a breaking point with being fed up with all that the world throws at you. All of the things that the world says is right, is contrary to our beliefs as Christians. And this is why my reaction was first to challenge those listening to me, who is "we"? Because if the we is Christians, which is the way I naturally run with it as a pastor, we should try to hold thoughts captive and subject them to Jesus. Not Ben Shapiro. And I know that it was done in a comical way, and not insinuating that we should replace God with Ben. But at the same time, I don't base my objections to moral dilemma's of the day on Ben's graphs and charts but on God's words. Which regularly confronts me with my own sin. Thanks for watching and chatting.

God's word is the moral authority, no doubt. But, Ben can still have important and truthful things to say also. And that doesn't mean that by saying important and truthful things, Ben is trying to replace God. It doesn't have to be an "either-or" here.@@pastormattt

This reaction just annoys me. You are completely missing the point of the song. It has nothing to do with religion but fighting against these woke idiots. This is why I regret religion.

    • @pastormattt
      @pastormattt  2 місяці тому

There are many in the religious circles that are concerned with the agendas of the "woke idiots". That and when you are dealing with moral questions, one has to base their claims on some authority. Many of his are founded on Scripture, whether he intended that or not.
