I started with a HitAir, then the Tech Air 5, and finally a Dianese Smart Jacket. The Tech Air 5 is the hottest and bulkiest of the 3, so I tend not to wear it in the summer. On a cool day a month ago I went on a group ride with the Tech Air 5. I overcooked a corner and had a high side crash. I flew about 15’ in the air and landed on my face and right shoulder. Thank goodness I was wearing the Tech 5. No shoulder damage, no injuries other than a busted up left hand when I landed on top of it. In the future I’m putting up with the heat and wearing just the Tech 5.

Been riding in a Tech Air 5 for 3 years now. Crashed once, deployed perfectly, no injuries at all and Dr at hospital was convinced the airbag played a part in that. I wear it every time I ride, but make no mistake, it is bulky and comprimses movement to a degree. I love the idea of the Tech Air 3 or Dainese Smart Vest, especially in warmer weather, but I like the fact the Tech Air 5 has a built in back protector in the event the vest fails to deploy. Of course with the 3 you can wear a back protector in your jacket or i believe there's a compartment to put one in the 3 and if you were to go for a D30 option then that would be far less restrictive than the solid back protector on the 5..... in that case, all you're missing out on is the shoulder protection and a little extra on the sides....a compromise, but one i may make in the interest of better comfort and perhaps more passive safety on the bike. Either way, these are great pieces of kit that have the potential to make a huge difference in the event of a crash

Glad the Tech Air 5 has proven to be an incredible investment. Thanks for watching!

The Tech Air 3 has a pocket for an optional back protector, you dont appear to be aware of this. Also, you erroneously state that that the Tech-Air 3 cannot be washed. Section 14 of the Tech-Air 3 manual provides instructions for the removal of the airbag, so that the outer garment can be "hand washed at 30°c". Perhaps a little more research about the products you're reviewing is in order?

He has provided 100’s of great reviews over the years, just a normal mistake or omission, it’s not like the usual misinformation these days. I mean, he is going to great lengths in this review I’d say.
      No disrespect, just saying.

I have the 5. Been riding with it for nearly two years now. A little heavy, not bad but noticeable. Also can be a little hot under another jacket in summer heat. Great battery life. Provides excellent full torso, back and shoulder coverage. The app that supports it is flaky. The app content is good, but the vest struggles to maintain blue tooth connectivity. It really comes down to what you're willing to give up to get. I would prefer to ride without any protective gear, but will concede that for the added protection and the chance to walk away from an accident.

Surely once the jacket is in active mode there is no further need for it to be connected to the app for it to work.

The app provides a lot of data concerning the ride statistics similar to a GPS recap. Has nothing to do with the functionality of the vest.
