@@Taladays37 That's why they have Eminent Domain, taking of land by the govt for "public use". However, there was the case down in New London, CT (I think it was) where the city or State took a lot of land and homes, by Eminent Domain, for the benefit of a Private Developer who was going to build private condos or something. They claimed that the "for public use" was satisfied cuz the City was going to get MORE Real Estate Taxes which it could then put to "public use" for all in the community. I believe the case went all the way to the US Supreme Court, which actually ruled in favor of the Developer/City/State and against the people. Last thing I heard, nothing new had eve been developed on the property, and the City never received and increased R.E. taxes.
Stubborn would be the incorrect way to portray these individuals. In many cases the home owners did not "have" to leave. It was outsiders with big money that wanted to "have" them move or be removed. All you homeowners know exactly what I am talking about.
Well they still are. People need good road networks. A city can't work without it and many people (we are talking millions here) benefit from them. But they can't and millions of dollars (tax money, peoples money) are thrown away when some stubborn people don't want to move and make space for a new road. In my opinion that's just egoism and they should think about other people.
@adodoes I was only talking about a few of them not all of them, for example the road one that was just people being stubborn. I mean to be fair, if you had worked hard to buy a house and this is what all your life savings were used for, how would you feel to just be told to move out?
*Ahem, you call people stubborn because they won't move out? Why, I could go to your house and say 'This is my house now.'! And if you say 'no' I could call you stubborn until you move!* *To everyone that disagrees, please respect that this is my opinion and that I should not be hated for sharing my opinion. Thanks for understanding.*
American logic - in the US, if it's a project for "public good," like highway or airport, the local authorities will just eminent domain your property for a fraction of market value. It's only in China and Japan, where people's right to property is actually respected, do you have situations with highway building around a house.
@James Tomlin first of all the difference is that all these houses are offered compensation to demolish their house so the authorities are actually buying the land while this logic is simply trespassing. Even the government wont be that stupid to do that
I have heard some regions in the United States of America charge taxes on your land, even if the land is paid in full. It is as if the person never owns their land in those regions. But in other regions in the United States of America once the land is paid in full, it is forever your's without any taxes. It seems the United States of America has inconsistencies in their laws from region to region.

I know that I don't know the details around any of these, but some, like #6 "Lou Baogen" look like it would not have been difficult to just build the road over a hundred meters or so, and avoid the house.
The idea that the farmer stubbornly refused to move is actually a myth. It turns there is an unusual geological fault in the surrounding land and it was just easier to build around the house.
I think we have one of these in Boston, but not sure. There is this small stand alone building, maybe 4 or 5 stories high, with a little bit of parking and a little bit of fencing around it. There has been a lot of construction around it over the years, but it just stands there. I think some people live in apts in it. It rents out its roof to 2 large billboards. I think there are 2 up there. It is right close to the back of the Boston Garden (Celtics and Bruins). You have to drive past it, on all four sides. There is new construction going on right across the street from it right now.

I wished I could of refused to sell my house to the School city when they wanted to expand the bus garage. I asked them what if I don't want to sell. They said that's ok we'll just take it anyway.
They'll just take by Eminent Domain, and give you 10 cents on the dollar. That's how they built the Mass Pike, at least towards the end as it coming into Boston. The Developer just had the State take all these homes by Eminent Domain. The people didn't even know what was going on, had no say in it. Then developer would show up at people house with an $8,000 check and say "you don't live here anymore, get out". That was that. This was in the early to mid 1950's.

If developers ever offer me millions to move out I’m packing my bags 🤙🏻🤑
Rogelio Barraza not millions, 1 million 😂😂😂😂
Id say OH HELL NNNNNNNAAAAAAAAAAAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
Fuck that keep the bags too. I’ll buy some new bags.
Dude, offer me double or more what I paid for my house and I’m gone... I’m cheap like that.
You have a choice. That is what matters. I would most likely take a million too. Then again, depends where I would be living at the time.
Home is home😊👍
they are protecting their own property
😊
It's so unfair to the residents who were forced to move :(
The people who refuse to move out aren’t stubborn, they’re just people who don’t want to be driven by evil developers.
Especially number 5
Also number 7 is a good example
Well they still are. People need good road networks. A city can't work without it and many people (we are talking millions here) benefit from them. But they can't and millions of dollars (tax money, peoples money) are thrown away when some stubborn people don't want to move and make space for a new road. In my opinion that's just egoism and they should think about other people.
Ok, so they don't sell. But what, exactly, makes developers evil?
@adodoes I was only talking about a few of them not all of them, for example the road one that was just people being stubborn. I mean to be fair, if you had worked hard to buy a house and this is what all your life savings were used for, how would you feel to just be told to move out?
The moral here, the Chinese government don't like to pay much for relocation.
Martino Barrett No instead they just like to take over, like in my Country. 👎😡
they actually willing to pay a lot of money, those people still want more, if 100 or 200 million dollar can’t feed them, nothing can feed their desire

An idiot you’re
What a bully with a thought like that!
American logic - in the US, if it's a project for "public good," like highway or airport, the local authorities will just eminent domain your property for a fraction of market value. It's only in China and Japan, where people's right to property is actually respected, do you have situations with highway building around a house.
No need to argue dude people lost humanity, love and values, all they care is money not other's emotions
@James Tomlin first of all the difference is that all these houses are offered compensation to demolish their house so the authorities are actually buying the land while this logic is simply trespassing. Even the government wont be that stupid to do that
So.. it's basically between US and China but Japan wins !
Only two Americans, so not really a contender in "winning".
Yes
Sorry but we have a giant atom bomb so we're going to drop it on you sorry
Why you are confused..??
I have heard some regions in the United States of America charge taxes on your land, even if the land is paid in full. It is as if the person never owns their land in those regions. But in other regions in the United States of America once the land is paid in full, it is forever your's without any taxes. It seems the United States of America has inconsistencies in their laws from region to region.

Or it will "accidentally" caught fire
In America they just find some other way to take it through the legal route which they make up the rules.
That makes them the most rude and bad hearted government. When someone own something by right, government or whatever don't have any right to do those things.

In India also...
At some point, the home owners living arrangement becomes miserable and difficult and not worth the principle that made them refuse to sell. Most of these properties are run down and dilapidated.
Why are so many Chinese
They must have more property rights than other countries.
Jay Carrigan Steamrollin' human rights includes property .
Jay Carrigan because they value "principals, and heritage, and history" over money...sometimes to the extent of being stubborn...but that's their culture so its all good. Apparently their governments understood otherwise they would have just killed them and their whole families, like they do when they don't agree with a citezen's decision or when they break the law...

I know that I don't know the details around any of these, but some, like #6 "Lou Baogen" look like it would not have been difficult to just build the road over a hundred meters or so, and avoid the house.
There’s one on the M62 as well as you go between Manchester & Leeds

Owners of the land should not have utilities cut off. It's their land after all
The utilities belong to the government in most countries and they can do with it as they please. These people do not own the pipes around their land, only what's on their land.
They don't own the water plant, electric plant, pipes, sewage lines, and roads so the government has the right to shut off what they damn well please.

The owner of that one is not stubborn. The highway doesnt have any other place to go through. And the owner is kind enough to let them build it through the building
There is a similar situation in the UK. In the north of England there is a motorway that traverses the Pennines From Lancashire to Yorkshire. At it's highest point there is a farm that constructors had to go round because the farmer would not sell. You do get a loverly view of the farm though. lol

If the developer offers me one million, I'm killing all my neighbors who won't cooperate. That's the price per each neighbor I kill, of course.
Where I live there is this busy super narrow two lane highway. After so many wreaks the county wanted to do an expansion to a four way, only asking land owners for acreage not demoing their homes. Offer each one millions just for .5 to 1 acre each. No one wanted to come off their land. This went on for nearly a decade until there was a major fatality crash and the county and state had enough and seized the land, only handing owner a few thousands for not cooperating. No home was destroyed and it actually looks good so far.
