Ted Knight was one of the greatest comedic actors of my lifetime (67 years). But i love that I'm still able to enjoy him on Mary Tyler Moore, which is available on UA-cam free of charge!
Thanks Steve. I always loved Chevy Chase's line in Caddyshack when the judge suggests they play a round, and says he's no slouch. "Don't sell yourself short, judge, you're an incredible slouch!" Too bad Ted wasn't with us longer, he was priceless.
Ted Knight was awesome, and friggin hilarious. I loved "Too Close For Comfort." I laughed every time he said 'Monroe.' 😂 There was just something I found funny about the way he said it. I was just old enough, about 9, to remember when he sadly passed away and being bummed out about it. May he continue to rest in peace. 🙏
Live about 3 miles from the picture you posted Terryville, Ted was a good guy, his comedy was 1st rate Between MTM & Caddie Shack. Those are my favorite,
It was so cool the actors of the 70’s and 80’s could guest star on so many various shows and sitcoms, you just don’t see that anymore. He like so many other actors of his era looked much older than his actual age and died so young. Thanks again for your content Steve!
Loved Mr. Knight in MTMS, Caddyshack, TCFC, and I even saw him in that episode of Highway Patrol, he was just such an amazing actor. Sorry that he died so young and as he did 😿
He was hilarious in Caddyshack. I remember our local news talking about his college sweatshirts, one of which was from Slippery Rock State College. That's very near where I sit. It's now Slippery Rock University.
His character on MTM...remarkable..hilarious..and completely created...one line I always remember..referring to other students during his school days...'those brainy..straight C students'...classic
Always liked Ted in the shows of the 70's, especially The Mary Tyler show - his clueless character was so believable and so funny. With his grey slicked back hair...I thought he was so much older. He seemed like a really good guy.
Wow, Ted was a busy man for most of his career. If memory serves Vince Lombardi also died of colon cancer, he refused to get screened for colon cancer.
Ted was guest on an episode of the Mike Douglas talk show the same day as Moe Howard of the Three stooges. You could see Ted was thrilled to be there with Moe.
@@TheLifeandSadEnding I remember seeing clips of that show, Moe was showing how to properly throw pies 🥧 and nailed Mike Douglas. Thanks for the memories
My late uncle,Raymond Masse, served with Ted,in Europe In the engineering division, and In the late 70s they had a reunion of the company at a restaurant in Seekonk Massachusetts,my uncle said Ted was much like Ted Baxter in real life, but was a nice guy.
Sometimes an episode of a comedy show comes out, and it's so extremely funny that I remember it decades later. The episode of the MTM show that did that for me was the one where Ted started "Ted Baxter's famous broadcasting school, and he only had one student. The part where they were to 'break up into smaller groups" really cracked me up.
I loved his work, though I don't wasn't aware of man of his lessor known roles. My mom was a huge fan of his. She was having lower gastric pain. Ted's colon cancer diagnosis prompted my mom to ask her doctor about a colonoscopy. One was performed on her, and cancer was diagnosed. If only she had done the test sooner. My mom died from the disease shortly thereafter. Ted might be responsible for making people aware some years in the future. Ted was a great individual Thanks for this video
Ted Knight was great. A sad ending indeed. I have the ol’ cave of wonders spelunked as often as my doctor prescribes. I ran into my proctologist at Home Depot last year. Unsurprisingly, he didn’t recognize me. I told him it was okay…probably goes with the profession.
Ted knight starred in the movie caddyshack as Judge smails at the box office he starred in Two TV shows the mary Tyler Moore show and too close for comfort
He toiled for years until the MTM show. If Jack Cassidy hadn't turned down the part he may have died in anonymity. Still he hated being regarded as the shows schmuck and seriously considered quitting. 2 Emmys later I'm sure he was happy he stayed. He really was a brilliant talent who left the world to soon...
Just found your Chanel. I subscribed. I remember Ted Night mostly for the tv show two close for comfort . What a great show. Truly loved it and believe it was made for him because he was the leading actor..Rest in peace .
I had a special appreciation for the episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show when it had to do with crazy and bizarre situations and escapades at the fictional WJM-TV ( _channel 12_ ) station and Ted Baxter. At the time I was living in Fresno in the mid-1970s, where the local ABC-TV affiliate, Channel 47 KJEO, displayed some striking similarities to WJM: Slipshod production elements and gaffs in the newscasts that were unintentionally comical; and a buffoonish news anchor. There had been some speculation at the time about the MTM Show's tie-in with Fresno, as the TV news market leader in the region was KMJ-TV, _channel 24._ The suspected inspirational links being the call-letters W-J-M were rearranged call-letters to K-M-J. Half of Channel 24 would be Channel 12. However, KMJ-TV was a solid and reputable station for news. The main anchor was Bob Long, as he was respected in the San Joaquin Valley with a similar reverence as Walter Cronkite had nationally. The five-thousand watts radio station in Fresno? Well, that could have been KYNO at 1300 AM. KYNO was a five-thousand watt radio station, formatted to Top 40 music back in the 1960s into the '70s; and for a music radio station, the newscasts had substance to them in the 1960s. Bob Long worked at that radio station prior to transitioning to TV with KMJ. But, Bob Long, as a newsman. was the diametric opposite of Ted Baxter.
As much as I dread them, I have had 2 colonoscopies. The 2nd was because I had a positive Cologuard test that turned out to be just from hemorrhoids...Being that Cologuard can produce false negatives and false positives, in retrospect, I would now just skip that test and just go get a colonoscopy.
this was another interesting peek into the life of a noteworthy person. I didnt watch MTM or TCFC, BUT my biggest memory of Ted is as narrator of Superfriends and I didn't know it as a kid but he voiced Black Manta as well.
He was one of the very few comedy actors who could be so pretentious, over-act and still be extremely funny. His Ted Baxter parts were short gags taking his vanity and insecurity to more absurdity. It never got old.
I had a colonoscopy a couple years ago. Got to do it again in a few months. All is good clean bill of health. But I must say it’s a real pain in the ass.
Because I take photos all over San Francisco someone asked me whether I ever took any of the filming exterior of the former Too Close for Comfort house. I had to look that one up! It's located at 171 Buena Vista East - right next to the park of the same name and above Haight Street. Although the houses up there are all really beautiful and historic it's now painted in a rather unremarkable color and doesn't really stand out!
Ted Knight voiced Professor Oliver Lindenbrook on the cartoon "Journey to the Center of the Earth." As well as Commander Kidd on the cartoon series, "Fantastic Voyage." That's when cartoons were good.
The Ironic part of this is that I probably watched all those programs he was in and don't remember him.And the only thing I remember him in was the mary tyler more show
Ted Knight was brilliant playing the role of the egotistical, self-centered news anchorman Ted Baxter. I believe the 2004 movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy was loosely based on Ted Baxter.
This is so brilliant. We all loved him on the Mary Tyler Moore show, that we watched as a family. I always wondered about his life. Thanking You greatly.
Thanks from Wells House B&B Greenport L.I.
Oh my gosh! Thanks so very much!
Knight was so good as Ted Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. He made the show. He was brillant as the Newscaster.
I get that test every two years thanks for his story.
From Mary Tyler Moore, to Caddyshack, and Too Close For Comfort, Ted Knight brought that same classic humor he had, that was in a league all his own!🙏

Ted Baxter: The Anchor Man. Caddyshack, MTMS, Too Close for Comfort. He had a stellar career. It's so nice that a bridge was dedicated to him. RIP
Talented man for sure. Favorite was character Judge Smails on Caddyshack. Cracks me up still, to this day!
Thanks Steve. I always loved Chevy Chase's line in Caddyshack when the judge suggests they play a round, and says he's no slouch. "Don't sell yourself short, judge, you're an incredible slouch!" Too bad Ted wasn't with us longer, he was priceless.

I LOVED his voice. Very distinctive.

I had never heard so much info on Ted Knight. He was perfect on the MTM show. Thanks Steve 😊
"Meanwhile, at The Hall of Justice..." and Ted Baxter are two of my favorite childhood memories. Caddyshack made him a legend.

Ted Knight was the best. Pure comedy gold on his part. I miss him.
God bless you for alerting people about colon cancer

I used to watch the same shows on the same tv as you. No remote, three channels and shows back then were worth watching. I miss those days.

Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, and Rodney Dangerfield seem to get all the love for Caddyshack. But Ted Knight was the true unsung hero of that movie.
Yeah, I was sad at his passing. Really liked Too Close for Comfort. 😓🙏🏼

I had no idea he was in so many TV shows!
He was so great. Actually, noticed him last week in Psycho, I watched Too Close for Comfort also.
Loved him.
It seems like just yesterday that I watched the final episode of this show, with the famous group hug at the end!

Great anchor!
Ted was THE funniest character on the MTM show.hands down, followed by Ms. White.
Great actor!
Only 62-looked much older
That's probably because of the cancer part.
Good advice about the colonoscopy reminder. Now they're recommending them to start at age 45.

What were the last two words on his tombstone?
"Bye Guy" I'm guessing it has to do with his Ted Baxter character always saying "Hi Guys" when he walked into the fictitious WJM newsroom.
