I don't see how a player at the top of his game losing his position to injury is good for morale. And his Nation's League performance this autumn included two howlers. It's not as straightforward as you and Chris suggest.

Don't disrupt a backline while it's on form. What if Alisson comes back in then gets injured 2 games later? Kelleher's lost all his momentum and confidence then.
If Kelleher puts a truly BAD performance in at some point then bring Alisson back in. That's more than fair.

There is no doubt Ali is the best but his injuries over the last few seasons. We face losing him if we disrespect him after he has performed amazingly. He is calm and collected, and overall he has stepped up the last few seasons and improved and matured.

Something Slot said in his presser today that I found interesting. He was asked about Gakpo's numbers and whether he could be 20 goal a season forward. His answer was very interesting. He said that Gakpo rotates with Diaz but if you add their numbers together then they are similar to Salah's numbers so the position of left wing is 20 goal position and that its the position that's important. I think this could be a window into how the club view Salah's value, in terms of the position rather than the player.

I would be reticent to go anymore though, talk of 3 years is insane to me. He’s 32, yes we can say we can’t see where the drop off will happen but it can be and often is sudden, Mane being the prime example. Age stops for no one and although someone’s numbers may stay high, they can inadvertently cost the team output more, look at Ronaldo at Juventus and United, it reaches a tipping point and I think within the next two years that’s quite likely to happen to Salah.

Jamie Vardy, for a terrible Leicester team has just put his 5th goal in 13 games away tonight. He’s nearly 38. He regularly pins energy drinks, he DEFINITELY drinks alcohol and is nowhere near the physical condition of Salah, who is a practicing Muslim (no alcohol, smoking etc).

Think you guys are missing the latest angle on this: if Salah is willing & keen to sign for one (1) year, then FSG must be trying to push for two (2). 2-years gives FSG the option to potentially sell him after 1 or 1.5 years, recoup some cash & re-invest. 1-year basically means there is no option for FSG to sell their prized asset. Sure, Salah currently has only 6-mths to go and can't /won't currently be sold but if FSG is willing to put big $-wages out the door, perhaps they're looking to have the future option of on-selling him. Salah will happily bank the large $-wages for 1-year and then cash-in on his free transfer status at the end of 2026. FSG's leverage, at this point in time, is Salah's desire to continue moving up the all-time goal scoring records both at LfC and in the EPL. For LfC's all-time scorers: Salah sits 5th (224 goals) & is 17 behind Hodgson who is 3rd (241), 61 goals behind R.Hunt who is 2nd (285 goals). Maybe he is happy enough ending up 3rd with another 1.5 seasons under his LfC belt ..Hunt (and certainly Rush 346 goals) might be a hat-trick or three, too far!!

Given alissons contract length and injury record, I'd seriously consider a big bid for Ali, with the view to keep Kelleher long term. A reminder that his job is not just to crunch spreadsheets, but to be a salesman, to persuade premium players to come to LFC. I'm just wondering if the club have actually sorted out at least 2 of them already. But they're loving the fact that it's messing with the press that it's not sorted, so behind the scenes maybe those who make decisions already know that it's going to keep the pressure off the players for on field stuff.
If you get what I'm saying.
Maybe sorting out Trent has dragged a little bit, but who's to know if it's not already determined too. Until we know with an announcement and signing photos, nothing is out of the realms of possibility. They could even leave announcing anything until late January, to keep Madrid etc wasting their window time chasing one/some of the 3.
