Fine Arts: Poetry and Prose Symposium

Our annual DVCS Fine Arts: Poetry and Prose Symposium is a defining event for our school. Students in grades 1-12 recite memorized selections of classic poetry or prose before an audience. The level of difficulty and word count of these literary pieces increase as students progress by grade. 1st graders recite poems around 100 words and seniors recite selections up to 1,000 words. Students are judged on accuracy, eye contact, platform presence, tone, voice projection, diction, gesture, and expression. Their hard work culminates into a confident recitation of words that are true, good, and beautiful. We trust the Lord will use the hours spent to excel in public speaking to equip our students for spheres of influence He has uniquely ordained for them.
