- This week we explore an unknown town for us, Panama City. It is truly remarkable to discover new cities and the histories behind them. We pinch ourselves every time we get to see a new place, we love every minute of it.
After completing much preparation we embark on what will be one of the biggest sails of our life's. Panama to French Polynesia is normally around 3800 miles but because of the time of year we actually plan to take a much longer route, heading south to Ecuador to pick up the trade winds. With the Hydrovane in full operation we start gliding towards an anchorage to clean the hull but make a last minute decision to keep sailing in order to take advantage of the very good wind pushing southward.
After the first days reality hits, and we slowly realise what we have just started. It’s not an easy thing to wrap your head around, we’re going to spend 4-5 weeks on the ocean - all alone (!!?).

Great video as always. I could feel the apprehension in undertaking such a big voyage with just the 2 of you. I can’t wait to watch the next few episodes. Can you spend a bit of time explaining your navigation, weather and radio things that get you there. Tis a challenge mate! I’m sure you can make it . I can’t imagine this crossing hundreds of years ago without communications, compasses, GPS and satellite phones and no one to come get you if you have trouble. Stay healthy and safe. Fred in Texas.

Enjoyable as always. Nice to see that the vane is working and that the seasickness is under control for now. That would make the passage much more pleasant. Of course knowing that you've downloaded this video I know you are in French Polynesia safe and sound. Hopefully you have met up with your friends there. Continue the adventure and explore. The Hydrovane will deliver you safely, and well rested. I respectfully suggest you go south (8S) before turning west or you may get becalmed, sailing south ensures you will hold the SE Trade to Hiva Oa.
try to find your happy place the sooner you do that the better it will be be safe lets do this !!!!
Great video thank you! I think I would be the most nervous not at the beginning of the trip but in the middle of the trip when you are so far from any other help of any kind if you had a problem!

The quality difference doesn't really show on UA-cam as it is never as good as your original footage on your lap tops. Spend your money on better solar or water maker upgrades or cockpit clears or shades.
