Bassday Sugapen VS MMD Splashprawn - Topwater Sandflats - Fishing Sydney

I decided to limit myself to these 2 lures for a long session. Both lures perform really well but I thought id explain some things about them which will hopefully be useful to some newer anglers. Hope you enjoy the video.

I have bought every lure that UA-cam vids demonstrate take whiting. I have tried every form of retrieval and apart from follow ups have not hooked a whiting yet. Talk about frustration!

I have a few MMD splash prawns lures with assist hooks on the rear but I take the treble off . No line/ leader tangle and it doesn’t affect the hook up rate. In fact all of my top water surface lures have assist hooks without any trebles.

Hey mate, I don't really use them anymore as I have found they aren't needed as much as people make out. Unless you wanna catch all the small ones. I still have some, they are the ecogear zx replacement hooks, size small. I cant remember what size I used in this video but they definitely were not small.

Nice vid mate. Not a fan of the assist hooks personally. They're handy for whiting but I reckon you end up catching less just by virtue of the fact that you throw half as many casts because of the tangling issue. If only they made them but about 10mm shorter. I think the Daiwa slippery dog is longer and comes with the assists as a standard - they don't tangle apparently.

Yeah facts man, especially when you consider the trick bitz are aimed at being used with the sugapen. Ive got some kegga stingers on the way Ill see how they go.

Can confirm as a slippery dog user. The assist hook don't tangle. But the treble occasionally gets stuck in the line like the video poster demonstrated with the splash prawn

Im not sure what they were, this was filmed long time ago. I dont bother with them anymore. Size 12 trebles work great.
