Before any director was attached to Hard Target, Universal saw the film as a potential vehicle for actor Van Damme. He had already been a huge fan of Woo's films and arranged to meet with him in Hong Kong where the two got along despite both Woo and Van Damme's difficulty with their English. Woo originally wanted actor Russell for the lead role but found Russell to be booked for two years with other film projects. On working with him, Woo stated that he was "sure of [my own] abilities and I know how to make an actor look good on screen, make him look like a hero. I thought I could do the same for him". Despite early misgivings about working with him, Woo changed many action scenes in the film to make them more spectacular after finding that Van Damme was up for it. While working with him, Woo stated that he had "a pretty big ego, but he's still professional and always tries to do a good job. Woo had some control over the film's casting including casting minor characters and finding a cinematographer. Actress Yancy was cast as Natasha Binder in her feature film debut. The role led Butler to other starring roles in action films such as Drop Zone and Fast Money. Actor Henriksen accepted the role of Fouchon stating he was a great fan of Woo, noting that his earlier films "were so creative, so balletic, and had this incredible philosophy in them. The violence was only a container for the philosophy".
I love that he not only blast them with multiple gun shots but must finish them with a jumping spin kick. Even as a martial artist I must insist the bullets would’ve done plenty
Haha i dont know if snoop dog kick at the end after emptying clips 2 that vampire in DAY SHIFT was the nod 2 this moment
Ikr lol this is a Hollywood action movie though so throw logic (and reality lol) out the window
A great action classic given to us by the legendary John Woo.❤️ With the handsome and flexible Jean Claude Van Damne. When you want great action scenes, John Woo does not disappoint.
I love the fact, that every gun in the film has a minimum 100 rounds magazine, even the Beretta :D
3:45 Snake? SNAKE?! SNAAAKE!!!
They thought they'd picked an easy target. They were dead wrong
The pistol through the peep hole scene stuck with me my whole life. Still never use those
I love the over the top slow motion deaths and people swinging their arms widely as they die. I love this movie
It's out of this week's theme, but I'd love to see the counts for 'Sudden Death', my fave Van Damme movie, and John Woo's 'Manhunt'.
John Woo’s film was meddled with in post production for the reason that “People aren’t paying to see Lance Henriksen.”.
One of Van Dammes best! So many killer kicks, too!
“How much slow motion do you want in the movie?”
“Yes.”
😂
Chance (Van Damme), a sailor skilled in martial arts, is employed to guard Natasha (Butler) as she tracks down her father, an itinerant Vietnam veteran living in New Orleans named Douglas (Pfarrer). They soon uncover a sinister group of wealthy men who hunt the homeless for sport, paying them $10,000 if they can survive a crosstown journey. When Chance discovers that Natasha's father was one of their victims, he decides to destroy the evil hunters.
Thanks for the context!
That was great and included Hard Target 2 with Scott Adkins and Temuera Morrison.
Never stop making these.
The god himself… Jean Claude van-damne
While since i've seen Yancy Butler, loved her in Witchblade.
garbage? you take that back
Start of a beautiful weekend with a kickass carnage count video!
One of the greatest action movies ever made.
John Woo and Sam raimi should've done more movies together like Tarantino and Rodriguez.
yeah I put this on my top 10 list of best action movies of all time
Hard Target it's one of my favourite movie with Jean Claude Van Damme and I watching it on in this canal it was incredible!!
Now I look at it right away!
I mentioned this in the Surviving The Game count! That’s good work!🍿💀👍
More like 40 deaths instead of 39. Last death was the old man's Poor Flask that got stabbed by the arrow.
Jean Claude Van Damme was a beast when he was at top prime.
The film stars Van Damme, Butler, Henriksen, Vosloo, and Carpenter.
What's with the detective (02.45)? She gets hit by a shotgun then gets shot with a machine pistol! She dies lying on the street!
She good
The film was released on August 20 in the United States.
2:24 Pik: Randal, Randal, Randal. Are you going without saying goodbye?
Me and my cousin Dave laugh that line because my name is Randall...with a double letter "L". 😆😂
Got really immersed watching this. Totally forgot about the kill count
Same with all of the kill count videos for me
Exactly what I was expecting of Jhon Woo
Animal death warning: snake gets its head blown off (fake), pigeons shot down offscreen,
Man, I was really hoping the first guy could get away. Bummer.
Such a great ending!
My favorite Van Damme film.
The body count was originally supposed to be higher for this movie, but executive meddling prevented it.
The uncut version restores a good chunk of the violence.
Yeah I was saying I was surprised this movie didn't have a higher body count given the amount of violence it has
In New Orleans, a homeless veteran named Douglas (Pfarrer) is the target of a hunt. He is given a belt containing $10,000 and told that he must reach the other side of the town to win the money and his life. Pursuing him is the hunt organizer Fouchon (Henriksen), his lieutenant Pik (Vosloo), and a businessman named Mr. Lopacki - Fouchon's client who has paid $500,000 for the opportunity to hunt a human, and mercenaries including Stephan (Thorsen) and Peterson (Jules). Binder fails to reach his destination and is killed by three crossbow bolts. Van Cleef retrieves the money belt.
While searching for her father, Binder's estranged daughter Natasha (Butler) is attacked by a group of muggers who saw that she had a lot of cash earlier. She is saved by a homeless man with exceptional martial arts skills named Chance (Van Damme), a former Force Recon Marine. Chance is initially hesitant to involve himself in her mission, but as his merchant seaman union dues are in arrears ($217), he reluctantly allows Natasha to hire him as her guide and bodyguard during her search.
Natasha discovers that her father distributed fliers for a seedy recruiter named Randal Poe (Eliott Keener) who has been secretly supplying Fouchon with homeless men with war experience and no family ties. Natasha questions Randal about her father's death, but they are discovered by an eavesdropping Van Cleef. Fouchon and Van Cleef beat Randal and cut his ear as a punishment for sending them a man with a daughter. New Orleans police detective Marie (Lemmons) is reluctant to investigate Binder's disappearance until his charred body is discovered in the ashes of a derelict building. The death is deemed an accident, but Chance searches the ruins and finds Binder's dog tag, which was pierced by one of the crossbow bolts. Van Cleef's henchmen suddenly ambush Chance and beat him unconscious to scare him and Natasha out of town. When he recovers, he offers Mitchell the dog tag as evidence that Binder was murdered. With the investigation getting closer, Van Cleef and Fouchon decide to relocate their hunting business and begin eliminating "loose ends". The medical examiner who had been hiding the evidence of the hunt is executed along with Randal. Meanwhile, Chance's homeless friend Elijah (Carpenter) is the next to participate in Fouchon's hunt and also ends up dead. Mitchell, Natasha, and Chance arrive moments later at Randal's car and are ambushed by Van Cleef and several of his men. During the shootout, Mitchell is shot in the chest and dies. Chance kills a handful of the mercenaries and escapes with Natasha. Fouchon and Van Cleef assemble their mercenary team and five hired hunters to continue the chase.
Chance leads Natasha to his uncle Douvee's (Wilford Brimley) house deep in the bayou and enlists his help to defeat the men. Chance, Natasha, and Douvee lead the hunting party to "Mardi Gras graveyard" (a warehouse of old damaged Mardi Gras floats and statues) and kill off Fouchon's men one by one. Van Cleef is finally gunned down by Chance in a shootout. In the end, only Fouchon is left, but he holds Chance at bay by taking Natasha hostage and stabbing Douvee in the chest with his arrow. Chance charges him, attacking with a flurry of blows, and then drops a grenade in his pants. Fouchon attempts in vain to dismantle the grenade but gets incinerated in the explosion.
It turns out that Douvee is still alive as the arrow Fouchon used only hit Douvee's wine flask. Chance, Natasha, and Douvee make their way out of the warehouse.
7:25! A Pre-Face/Off moment.
6:15 bruh, that was so fucking dope!
Go check the 36 kill that one was really smooth. That's the smoothest one out of all of them
Also, the unrated version adds more violent scenes and some more character stuff.
Haha what. All these while i thought theatrical cut was awesome. Now i gonna find full cut soon. Hahahaha.
3:20 great scene
They don't make em like this anymore. It's a damn shame... also that mullet is epic!
9:11 LMAO Moment
Don't hunt what you can't kill.
I Remember this movie.
2:06 should've counted as six
The story terrible? Now Carnage, I know you're not trying to....hurt my feelings.
Damn, I used to watch this movie with my brother when we were young. Even mimicked the shooting scenes
Can you do a Kill Count on Evil Ed. (1995)
It was actually 40* you left out the female detective who was shot and killed. I was honestly surprised this movie didn't have a higher body count given how much action it has
(7:25) the same thing from Face/Off (1997)
This is so 90’s. You should do the other John Woo classic Hard Boiled.
I want to see pacific rim x monsterverse (2013-2021) Carnage count godzilla monster
Of course it's a bad target- all bad guys suck at shooting things in movies!
Still remains iconic to cult action films in da 90's.
I swear it had two actors we know on was the guy from aliens/alien 2 and alien 3 and alien Vs Predator 2004 and pumpkinhead and the other actor that I'm pretty sure was Arnold vosloo who will later be cast in Stephen sommers 1999 movie the mummy and the mummy returns 2002 movie and later in gi Joe the rise of cobra movie 2004.?
Vosloo also got new flick in Netflix now haha a supporting role as cop in an South African made movie
Heh nice friend.?
Haha indeed
I think one of the biggest reason JVCD didn't get big as Sly or Arnie during that time because among people I ask he's the biggest rated a-hole among these masculine celebrity
they are all a-holes, jcvd's biggest sin was coke, lot's of coke
Only to me bother me that there was no kiss?
Una de mis películas favoritas gracias
👍👍
JCVD has 26 kills
Childhood memories.. 🤣✌️
My favorite movie I'm a kid though. No joke. Love the last fight.
9:00
Hunting season is over.
3:46 ヘビもカウントされて草生える
5:14 あ、ハトもカウントされた😅
3rd comment lezz gooo
Ah yes... over the top action movies... I loved this when I growing up ^_^
And yes, we see the iconic doves in John Woo movies... if anyone knows any John Woo movies that didnt have them in a scene... let me know XD
PS: who was that actor that played the bad guy and the 2nd in command (the one where Van Damme got the grenade from)? I always see them play the bad guys, and I like them as actors, but I cant remember their names. All I know is that the 2nd in command played Imohteph in The Mummy (at least I think he did)
