As a male doctor, this is such a weird movie. I remember independently conducting normal deliveries during intership only, . And, I am not unique, we all irrespective of the gender used to do everything, deliver babies, administer oxytocin, proper cord management, delivery of placenta, episiotomy repair if performed. PGs would be mostly busy with c section or more complicated assisted deliveries. Our department HoD was also a guy.

@@vish206 I don't practice Gyne and Obs, but during internship I didn't face any overt issues from the patients or relatives. Then again it maybe different depending on the state or location you are in. In West Bengal and Kolkata at least, male OBGYN are pretty common occurrence. Also, since I haven't done specialization in OBGYN I maybe lacking some perspective. The point of my post was, conducting normal delivery at a government hospital is not a huge thing and lots of male doctors do so everyday. Nobody will create a big deal regarding that as has been portrayed here.

Here it is not about patients who are not ready to get treated by male doctor. It is about a doctor who should forget that he is a male while treating patients, when he can daringly talk to patients and make them understand they will follow him

In our hospital only one female gynaecologist, others are male. I didn't even there is such stereotyping. The movie should be released in 80s.
Exactly. They are trying to make an issue of something which is not even an issue. Also the trailer of this movie was also misleading. No male doctor is supposed to examine a female patient without the presence of another female attender/ nurse/doctor. And here Ayushman was doing PV of a pregnant woman all by himself.
In my college itself, many male doctors perform PV and PR on female patients. And such a problem has rarely ever occured.

This culture of giving awards and appreciation for something that you are hired or expected, has hampered individual excellence as well as overall as society. Such a great satire on gender norms. "Some of top gaenecologists in this country are male." This sounds very similar to "some of the greatest pilots in the world are female." Tell me how many times we have heard similar things. Cooking is associated with women but most of the chefs in the world are male. So why we consider cooking a female job? Similarly, why do we consider business a male job when women have been doing great businesses since the dawn of civilization, either as vendors or as madames. Its still business and theres still money. Why do we consider a being a woman CEO as some great achievement for woman kind while it is a well known fact that women are cunning and great investers.
Gender discrimination is garbage. And I am glad this movie puts men in womens' shoes for once. It would have been better if the male character actually aspired to be a gaenic and people would have prejudices against him, while the leading doctor would have been a great guide. That would have made it far more inspiring than it is.
