One thing that may help with the eating on the bike is on most cycling computers you can set reminders to tell you to eat, I used to have the same problem and this helped me loads.
Ues on my new wahoo, to get in habit of cycling all day and not bonking for bikepack event. I set alarm for 30min water sip and food mouthful as a bare minimum . Worked very well to create a better habit and I got to eat more sweets 😅
With the saddle bike bag installed, the rear blinker needs to be relocated. It's just hidden, and reduces the intended far distance visibility. Keep safe.
LB's a good looking machine. Very nice setup! I like the green tri-tone. Very cool. Everyone has a different approach to fueling up. I used a timed interval based on estimated calorie burn. It wasn't particularly exact but having those regular intervals helped me avoid the dreaded Bonk. My only rule was "No matter how good I feel, no skipping refuel." Look forward to more adventures. Stay awesome, Amy!
Beauty of a bike like the colour. Might pay to get some hiving kit and a bright flashing light on the bike on those main roads. Stay safe. I've got the same helmet 😀
Thank you! Yes did have my front light and back light on (they’re built into the bike :D) but the saddle bag was obstructing the back light! I did have a spare with me to put on the back bag too - defo will have on next time!
Congratulations on your new bike, looks perfect for long rides. Hope your bad luck is now over. It's good to see you happy and smiling. Just plenty of easier rides before you start riding hilly routes, so you don't strain your knee. Amy, you will overcome your apprehension or nervousness about riding again and regain your full confidence. Time is a great healer. Also if you're struggling to eat on the bike, try getting your calories from drinking a sports drink in addition to eating.
Nice bike! Great idea to drink carb loaded drink as you go to hydrate and get calories into you. Just an idea to help smooth the load. Fuelling as you ride is always a good idea.
Love the bike. Cannot see your rear light because of your saddle bag. I have one of those strap on helmet lights from Halfords because of the gubbins I sometimes have in my seatpost area (ohh madam!) which helps quite a lot. "Just" a 120 miles...you lightweight.
Thank you! Yes I made a mistake there! I did have a spare light with me that I was meant to strap on the back of the seat-post bag at the cafe after realising but completely forgot, think I was in a post porridge trance! Luckily we got back before dark although I always like to ride with a light on in the daytime too, so one to put on the seat bag before I set off next time!
@@amy.cycling.adventures I have done it myself many times. I have a Go Pro mount and a 300 lumens Lezyne rear light (very powerful) which I can strap on when I need it. My Halfords helmet rear light is always there when I need it, though.
🤣🤣🤣 "...and that's a James Bond quote." Ha haaaa. Priceless! I started smiling at "..it's 7:10 in the A.M." and didn't stop through the whole video, and I did a proper lol over the "..it's too bloody late." bit at 05:30
I took my new bike out for its first run today. I would say 'too', but of course Amy's time shifted through video. Dang thing is, I wasn't looking for a new bike, just the possibility of replacing a damaged rim on my Planet X Pro Carbon 50's. They don't have their own wheels anymore, but they do have the Holdsworth Corsa. I had a Holdsworth 531 Pro back in the day, always regret letting it go. My next bike was going to be a gravel bike, and it still is, but a 1970's team livery road bike with 12sp and disc brakes? Yes please!
Smashing new bike, nice colour scheme. Great to see you logging the big miles so soon after the accident. When I used to ride 12 Hr time trials I had a 'grazing container' fitted between my tri-bars - it's both convenient and a visual reminder to feed. A little top-tube bag could do that nowadays.
Enjoyable video. I would be interested in a more detailed look at the bike including why you went for the Topstone - a gravel bike - rather than the more obvious option of the Cannondale Synapse which is an "endurance" road bike and seems very popular with audaxers.
Thanks so much!! I already have an endurance bike that’s why :) so thought a gravel bike would be good as gives me the option of trying some gravel & has the mudguard islets & lots of mounting points for bags so will be good for bike packing ☺️ thanks for watching!
Congrats on the new bike. Always nice with some new hardware. Just a shame you are blocking that rear light with the bag. Firstly cause you lose the light, but mostly cause your rear radar wont work. Which kinda makes the whole feature of the bike pointless :)
Something that may help with eating a handlebar stem bag that is normally used for water bottle but fill it food my personal favourites is mixed nuts dried cranberries and m&m's. Also it would be great if you put village signs in your video so you can have a rough idea of the route you're taking
Ohh thank you for the tip! Love fruit and nuts! Yes I need to do more of this ~ my Strava is also linked on my profile so you can see my routes there too if you like :)
Do you have the integrated battery. My wife’s top stone did not come with it but she loves riding it, she is 70 years young and still knocking out the 70 km rides.
@@amy.cycling.adventures I would blame it on the excitement on getting out on the new bike 😁 I always like to have a rear light on when cycling in the daytime. I’m not sure how much difference it makes, however every little helps I guess.
Hi Amy, roughly how long does it take to do that distance? I have a mountain bike and take it on the roads sometimes, but can't get my head around those distances. I once did 55 miles and that was an epic ride as far as I was concerned. I guess the correct bike for the road makes a big difference? Anyway keep up the good content, my only comment would be the videos end a bit abruptly, and maybe think about your signing off, "see you in the next one" or something like that would be a cool way to end.😉
Hiya! For this one we started at 8am and finished at 5pm with stops but it’s individual for everyone as we all have different speeds ☺️ any distance is epic! All miles count and we all have different preferences on what distances we prefer so be proud of yourself for whatever distance you do is what I always say :D

And the light was slightly visible although reduced it’s reach with the bag
Congrats on your new bike! As an ultra cyclist, coach and someone also doing PBP in 2024, I suggest to my clients and crew to put as many calories in their bottles as possible. I use 38 ounce bottles and put 1200-1400 calories per bottle. You may have limitations on the size of bottles you can put on your bike so use the biggest you can (SIS sells 33 Oz bottles) and go with at least 500 calories per bottle. But the more you can stomach and get used to the taste the easier it is to fuel. I love little sandwiches and a few other solid things but the real easy way to fuel is put it in the bottle. Maybe you and Kyle can pop on over to my channel as I talk about this fueling thing ALL the time it seems 😂
What are you putting in bottles to get 1400 calories? An energy drink like SIS Go has 189 calories per 50g serving which is recommended for 500ml water. Even using 1 litre bottles that would be less than 400 calories per bottle.
It's funny because every time I crash my most lasting response is anger and justice to get on the bike and complete the ride. 😅 Maybe it's just me being angry at the universe (or car drivers)
I struggle eating on the bike in winter with thick gloves on so instead I use energy powder in my bottles - can recommend SIS blackcurrant but if on a budget some squash+sugar works nearly as well!
Nice ride🙂 ,I know it's fun but why are your rides so long? Maybe cut it in half so you don't bonk out? I do 30+ mile charity rides during the season and that suites me fine , when I'm done I feel rejuvenated and have time left in the day to do other things😉 please be careful, those roads look scary with those speeding cars.
