You left out the Great Outhouse Blowout & the Outhouse Races at Penns Store in Gravel Switch. Also we have to ask after seeing the shirt: Skyline or Goldstar? Who Dey🐅
I heard about that after I was done filming! Would be cool to see that event! And I probably lean towards Skyline but I like both. As well as the other local places that serve similar.
@@TravelwithaWiseguy A Skyline recently opened less than a mile from my house & I have switched to Skyline from Goldstar as a result. We will be out in your neck of the woods next week. It was 106 when we were out there last week. Also have you been to Natural Bridge in the Red River Gorge?
@@TravelwithaWiseguy Yes. It’s a state park with several arches. There’s a Natural Bridge State Park near there too. Exit 33 on the Mountain Parkway. If you know where Morehead State or Eastern Kentucky University then you’ve been close. It’s better than the Natural Bridge in Virginia.
Area held so many interesting story's. The history, pictures of buildings and steamboats were neat. The natural bridge opening underneath for a hike to the river and old old country store were most impressive. Great area to visit.
We're in Kentucky for the first time. That Rocky Hill railroad depot is fantastic. I love old railroad buildings. My mom and I were driving around in Oklahoma back in June looking for some place and while doing so we stumbled onto a town called Dougherty that had this great old railroad building. It was a big building that hadn't been used in ages but back in the day I'll bet it saw a lot of business. That was a great accidental find.
Yeah it was fun to start a new state! I’m going to have some more new ghost town states as well after my Oregon Trail series. I agree that depot was the prize find in Rocky Hill. Love finding those - amazing they are still standing!
Love Creelsboro. Look at that giant banner "Welcome to Creelsboro" outside of that store like it just gets hundreds of tourists every day. Look at that old mansion-type building. Imagine the lives that lived in that building. I bet it was a very well-off family. Wish it could be restored. Looks beautiful. Bonus trip to bridge!
I've lived in Gravel Switch for over 20 years, and it definitely is a beautiful place to call home. Penn's Store stays quite busy during the summer, as a lot of us spend our weekends swimming and camping nearby at the North Rolling Fork River. Our little town has just as much history, if not more, than many of the largest cities in the U.S. Some of it good, some of it bad, but all interesting...like when John Dillinger robbed the bank here in 1933.
You showed pictures of it, but you didn't mention the Creelsboro Country Store built in. 1869 and still has the original shelving. Now with an attached eatery. Went there 2 months ago. Good food and neat items in the store! You should have ate there. Staff was super friendly.
@@TravelwithaWiseguy Thank you so much for the Chimney Rock postcard! I don't know when it was sent but I just saw it today at my post office box. It looks beautiful. would love to see it. Thank you
It’s spaghetti, chili, and cheese. Seems like a strange combo, but people in that area love it (me included). Chili parlors are everywhere in Cincy and surrounding towns. For a 4-way add beans. 5-way add onions. So that’s how you order it 😊
@@TravelwithaWiseguy I have heard of unique restaurants and bars that have their own T-shirts, never a T-shirt to just a menu item. They must really love it

Nice! How I would love to have some Cincy style chili out here in Kansas haha. And no I haven’t been to that natural bridge. Is it a good one?

Yes very much so! Very beautiful and that natural bridge was really great!

Creelsboro was very beautiful and out of the way. Would’ve liked to have gone in the store! Bridge was more impressive in person that on camera!

That’s great that there are still a lot of people visiting!!
I live close to Gravel Switch. The largedt Amish community in the state is in Marion County.
Its a beautiful place. I love just driving down there.
What a great video!
Thank you! Kentucky is a beautiful state to explore!
The Natural Bridge is fantastic! And Penn's Store is a wonderful reminder of determined continuity and steadfastness. Thanks for showing us!
Thank you for watching! Yeah those are some hidden gems that I was lucky to find that day! Loved them both!

Unfortunately it wasn’t open when I was there that day!
Could live in gravel switch in a heart beat. Love old small towns.
Definitely a beautiful area to visit!
I'm about 20 miles from there. There is an community there.
As usual the music is always great. Whenever I hear a banjo I think of my dad who was a banjo picker.😊
Kentucky makes me think of banjo! Love them too!
Penns store.....sooooo cool!
Yes! So cool to be able to see inside!
Loved the history of Penn store. Really enjoy these videos!
Thank you! Yeah that was a great little place to find along the way! Very cool. 😎
I lived in Kentucky for a short time, and it is absolutely beautiful!! I love all the photos you got of the old buildings!
Thank you! It’s a very beautiful state. One of the best to take a road trip through!
My father was born in Gravel Switch Kentucky.
I live close to penn’s store. It’s a really old store and I’m surprised it still stands today.
wow, love that natural bridge
Come to Webster county Kentucky. We have two towns like that here. One is Diamond and wheat craft.
This was GREAT! Thanks for posting these.
Thanks! I appreciate you watching!
I. Love. Ky. Amen. Thank. You. God. Bless. You
Nice! I grew up just across the river in Ohio 😊
You should’ve headed on down to perryville and visited the perryville battlefield. The battle of perryville was fought during the cilvil war.
Just came across your video! If you thought Gravelswitch was an odd name just know it’s nickname to us locals is GravelScratch! 😂 much ❤
Awesome 😎
Great story about the Penn store. Place like that, even if it's just a piece of candy, you have to buy something just out of respect for it.
I was very lucky to be able to go inside! I bought a t-shirt that I wore for a day on The Oregon Trail 😊
@@TravelwithaWiseguy (Adds to bucket list) Go to Penn's Store
Yes! Just make sure to go when it’s open haha 😂

You!! I'm looking for Dover Kentucky ,mason county. Can you help? Would love to know history.🙏
I haven’t done videos on those areas yet, but I grew up near Mason County across the river in Ohio!
Exploring Kentucky in a Cincinnati t shirt savage
Haha I love both 😊
You like strange names? I was born in Pee Wee Valley Ky in 1974 on the SDA compound.
That’s awesome!!
Dolomite!
😂😂
What is Cincinnati Three-Way?
