Even the argument 'most players are female' makes no sense to me (from EA) because even though I am female, I play males often. I start games with males, or my females marry, or have male children. I still want them to have a nice CAS selection. So the fact that EA so constantly overlooks male clothes and hair is so strange to me.

    • @corabeani

I think making male Sims is made harder by the wild patterns put on the clothing. The males basically have one type of fashion and it's something I have NEVER seen any male in real life actually wear.
If anything, I see the plain t-shirt and long sleeve, those button down shirts with little patterns on them, and a business casual look on most every day American males. They wear jeans or shorts to their knees. Shoes vary.
Only time I see something different is clothing worn by people that were not born in America.
I have seen many people from other countries wearing traditional clothing of their respective countries or their pop culture style they would wear to a nightclub or party. IF the shirt has a pattern on it, it's not so wild that it's not even tasteful.
There's enough athletic menswear in the game that is passable. They need more night clothing or more colors to the existing ones because I'm so sick of HEART underthings. I have not met a single American male that would actually go for those. They choose plain, plaid, stripes, and if it's a pattern it's related to something they enjoy like sports, motorcycles, their dog, etc.
The styles of most male clothing is fine, but the patterns kill them.

But I understand why people are unhappy with the current clothing options for males in the game.

As a software developer, most of the sims 4 packs feel like the core mechanics that you do just to make sure it works before adding on top of it... literally a first draft

    • @corabeani
      @corabeani Рік тому +46

That's how I feel since all my friends and boyfriend are software engineers. I know by the way Sims 4 plays they did the very barebones "enough to make it work" coding and some stuff like adding colors should actually be easy, yet they give us a constant string of excuse as to why it isn't done.

    • @second_second_
      @second_second_ Рік тому +10

so they're selling us the barebone 1st draft at such a high price, every time?
Or are most of the pays actually for the artists instead of the software developers? But this is a game pack so.. for the price yeah it does feel kinda lazy.. or am i just ignorant of how hard the work is..?
Or most of the profits actually go to the higher ups instead?
Or are the lack of features caused by the need to make sure it's runnable in most computers and even laptop? Then i appreciate it, because the game is runnable on my non-gaming laptop. Is it hard to make a game like this runnable on most non-gaming laptops? Genuinely just curious.

Something I felt that would have made this pack way better is some sort of real estate system. Like buying property and renting it out. And for some cross pack compatibility maybe if you reached a high enough level in a "real estate" career you could sell homes to famous sims.

Speaking of renting out, I actually sort of enjoy Discover University's roommate feature, which isn't limited to Brightchester's lots either. You can ask any sim to be a paid roommate as long as you have a bed for them, you don't have 8 sims already living in your household, and the sim that you're asking to be your roommate doesn't have any sims who "rely" on them, which probably means that they have to be "homeless" and having no one else in their household. You can place an ad that will guarantee willing roommates though. People have said that this game mechanic is buggy, but I haven't noticed anything game-breaking yet and the free food roommates produce is nice (if repetitive lol). I've even sold it in a yard sale. lol

I HATE how strong the likes/dislikes of the decore are. Like, all my sims would just randomly cancel the current interaction, walk away a whole block just to clap/be disgusted by some light :\ It's honestly really annoying when you are trying to do more realistic/immersive gameplay and your sims are just running around clapping at random tables-_-
Also, a lot of simmers experience other bugs with this pack: work not being paid even if the sims liked/were neutral to the work done, apparently higher lvl gigs (for a whole lvl of the house) not working as well and constantly bugging out, not able to delete/place walls and some others.
This pack is not only has very shallow game play, but is also infested with bugs that are still not fixed. And I'm saying all of this as someone who actually likes this pack. I like cas and b&b, but gameplay is very lackluster, wouldn't recommend buying this pack for full price, better wait for the sale.

    • @corabeani

Yes, only 3 Likes and Dislikes show up in the panel but you have a whole host of options for finding out about the Sims in the interaction menu. Ask their fave colours, decor styles, hobbies and skills, and other likes. All info will appear in your NOTIFICATIONS. Not just the three in the job panel. When revealing the space, show off items specifically that match the Likes and Dislikes. If you want to make sure that the Clients' randomised Likes and Dislikes make logical sense, go in and edit the family in Manage World before you start the job. This way you don't have Bella Goth hating red or something.

On another note, when playing this job, i appreciate that the EA builds are usually not that pretty. When a build or building's interior decoration is too nice or beautiful, i feel reluctant to change or redecorate it, because i want the nice build to stay as it is.
I felt sad that I butchered the Japanese aesthetic in the Snowy Escape houses (but how couldnt I, when Nishidake family has 7 children/toddlers but no beds or space for them).
Maybe I should learn more on how to match the Japanese aesthetic. I learnt a lot from your video on how to actually use those BB items, had no idea before this about those BB combinations. Thank you!

So many players love building/decorating homes. The decorator career could have been an incredible addition that could have encouraged build-mode players to play in live-mode, breaking up the monotony of taking care of Sims needs with transforming homes in the neighborhood. I was extremely disappointed by the shallowness of the gameplay here. My only posts ever on the forums were to encourage Maxis to develop a house-flipper career. It would compliment so many other things in the game. Their general neglect of substantive gameplay and unwillingness to integrate different packs made a satisfying builder/decorator career impossible.

i personally love playing with the career from time to time but i totally agree with lots of the gameplay features. i recently had a mom with 3 children in an apartment where it made a lot of sense that i had to decorate the kids room and ask the children what they'd prefer. but of course this feature would be sooo much nicer if it was better thought through. the biggest annoyance for me honestly is the photo taking part at the beginning and end of the gig. i absolutely hate that haha

Im female but I really hate the imbalance in CAS between the 2 genders, because it is impossible to make a male sim without him looking like a 'fun dad' so I usually just either only make 'fun dad' male sims or none at all. Luckily CC does help and I'm very thankful for that but at the same time a lot of CC is directed towards female sims. EA needs to try harder because their isn't 'less male styles' its just they need to explore more styles of clothing. Sorry this was very long.

As a male I feel the same way but have to say that I do feel like in real life there are less styles for men than for women most stores only carry t-shirts, long sleeves, polo, plaid button up, jacket and a few jeans and shorts where the womens section will have t shirts, long sleeve, crop tops, tube tops, strapless, spaghetti strap, blazer, some with a semi transparent and flowy midriff, jackets but with more variety of styles and designs aswell as jeans, shorts, skirts of many different styles, leggings, casual dresses, pantsuits, jumpsuits, suspenders/overalls and don't get me started on lengere.women have literal stores dedicated to fun underwear but men just get boxer briefs and boxers at Hudsons bay. The mall I work at literally has 4 women's underwear shops and I've never seen a men's one. And even when you do consider other men's styles that exist, they're not easily accessible. Most good male fashion is designer and sold only online and costs an arm and a leg to buy and even then it's still usually just a jacket or a t shirt with a logo on it.
There is no male equivalent to fast fashion. And while that may be good when looking at the negatives that come with fast fashion, it severely limits the kind of styles that men can try
On top of this men get made fun of when they wear things like a fishnet or mesh top. For some reason it's ok of women to wear stuff like that but not men.
The way things are right now women's clothes are designed to be fun and exciting and sexy, with many styles made to hilight women's bodies and put them out there. While men's fashion is made to look seriouse and nothing else it comes from the outdated idea that men shouldn't need to put themselves out there with looks but instead be wealthy and in a successful career. And it's true that fashion isn't just meant to attract others but even when it comes to just having fun with your wardrobe, men's fashion is just to focused on being sophisticated to allow men to have fun with their clothes
More example of this is with formal wear. Every red carpet event or prom or wedding, the women are always dressed in beautiful dresses that are all unique and of different trims, while most men are in the same identical suit
Going back to the sims though I agree with you that this problem is even worse in the sims and that's even more frustrating

Just because male styles are limited irl doesn't mean they can't try to create new styles in the sims 4. Like just be creative and give male sims more flowy tops or more interesting suits just something to add more while also adding in more existing styles to the game.
I think we need more cozy clothes for men in bot IRL and the sims and also other styles that don't make all my male sims look the same and also more male hairstyles with hilights please. And as a kid even I liked having my dolls live in neighborhoods. I would have a bunch of mini boxes set up for the neighborhood and wanted men/boys to balance out in my play worlds. And they were hard to come by. Bratz boys was the most decent intergration of boy/girl balance I experienced as dolls and it came at the end of my childhood. So I love that my digital dollhouse can have as many boys/girls I desire not designated by toy makers.

Also I think it would've been cool if your sim could also be an event space designer/organizer, like you could design the look of other sims' weddings, bday parties, festivals etc. And then on the actual event day, there would be times where sims or weather conditions coud ruin your the decorations, and you'd have to repair them on the spot lol. I think that can at least tie in with Wedding Stories or City Living. (because some of the festivals are kinda bland)

My personal opinion, I don't often use the dream home decorator items very often and only ever tried to play the career twice, and didn't get very far, partly because of the buggy likes and dislikes system. But also, the shelves glitch out where if you leave the lot and come back, they'll have gone into your household inventory, even though I didn't use the move objects cheat or anything. It gets pretty aggravating to have to keep fixing it, so I just don't really use it anymore, but I enjoyed them when they worked.

@@eclinor there are shelves that return to your home inventory when you leave and come back and it seems no matter what you do it keeps happening, and it's a pain in the butt to fix especially when you get it perfect... BUT I will say those same shelves are perfect for using the moveobjects cheat, you can move those shelves wherever and a LOT of stuff fit in them. So there's always drawbacks and upsides. One drawback, most of the time, if you have a type of decoration style set as a favorite for likes and dislikes, your sim will go over to an item they like or dislike and react, and it'll be out of nowhere, they'll sometimes stop what they're doing to do it, but I think it's also a base game problem?

The "most players is female" ""argument"" actually kinda irritated me. Yeah, a majority of the players are probably female, that.....that doesnt mean we don't want to.......play with male sims. I wanna build family with a good looking male sim that doesn't require me downloading live ten different presets for male eyes, chins, lips, and jawline on top of searching for cc clothes. Rip console players with the same issues. I've never heard another female players say they don't care about the female sim bias or that there is no bias or they don't care about male sim clothes. Never have I ever. It irritates me that EA is content with male sims looking like murderhobos from someone's DnD campaign or a reject that didn't make the cut in Dream Daddy
With all of that being said, I do agree with this review. I got the pack basically as soon as it came out since I thought the concept was cool and it would make me want to actually learn how to build since I'm definitely not a builder lol But I would barely work. Back then, it would glitch out so bad, the clients wouldn't even tour the lot. The gig would just end when you were finished and you might get paid or your reputation might tank. There's not a whole lot to do outside of maybe adding in another room and it's just shallow......like most of the Sims 4

So ... I would go as far to say it's a perpetual cycle: I don't play male Sims because there's no variety in looks.

I felt like I was robbing her of her hard earned cash , wish ea felt that way when they take the p*ss with such flat packs (heheh the flatpack/ikea/decorating pun was not inteded)

As a person who just finished their 4 year bachelor's for interior architecture/design, the pack an extremely underwhelming representation of the profession even as something less structurally demanding like decorating. There's so much they could've done, even from a more rabbit hole experience with less animation or doing rabbit hole and for the first few levels of the career then giving the option to stay rabbit hole or get your own company essentially and do the build/live thing. Moving from a more student/learning posititon to like an intern to assisstant designer then architect. Having to do more case study research, having multiple. meetings (even over the phone) with the client like with the freelancer career. They really dropped the ball on a very broad and interesting topic.

I try very hard to enjoy this pack since interior design... is a slight passion of mine... lol
The thing is that I've had clients hate my renovations despite following the rules set up in the preference "bubbles" in the gig UI... which prompts me to go into the dialogue tree to find the Dream Home Decorator dialogue that is not part of the regular Interior Designer category of dialogue so that I can learn everyone's likes and dislikes... and I swear that sometimes it hasn't even told me everything even then, and won't reveal more likes and dislikes upon repeating the dialogue, so it's very easy to become frustrated, especially when the gigs often break completely. It's a lot of work to gather all this information. That's not all though. Whether or not you get paid and have your reputation bar go up depends on satisfying all the clients and this can get extremely difficult and stressful the more sims there are in the household, which can leave you unpaid and your reputation lowered, and sometimes for seemingly no reason at all if you didn't think to gather up all the likes and dislikes outside of the normal gig dialogue category that's used to fill up the preference bubbles. Clients will even yell at your sim and/or send them hate mail if they dislike a renovation enough and that doesn't happen in other careers that I know of. lol
Before anyone says anything about going into CAS to learn likes and dislikes, I find that technique too time consuming and that it breaks up gameplay flow too much... plus I had a bad experience where a sim didn't generate any likes or dislikes and then they generated some after leaving CAS without my knowledge, ruining my gig.
