I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

I will say that your tips have helped me catch a ton of bigger bass this year so I share your name Matt with everyone I meet at the river. Thanks again for doing what you do.😊

Tried this A LOT since I began fishing in April and absolutely without doubt saw my number of strikes go up at a minimum 50% vs not doing it.

You are absolutely teaching something I agree 💯 and have made it work with nearly every bottom bait I’ve used, trying to act naturally… Thanks Matt , you have a great way of explaining the technique and the reasoning 👍👍👍👍

Agreed. Always in part action cuz it is a huge difference maker. As someone whose local lakes are all mud silt bottomed, it makes all the difference

Very interesting analysis and makes sense. Makes me think why the Tokyo rig has been so successful for me the last few years. Even with the extra wire fish seem to bite it and hang on like it’s live bait. Especially here in the Wisconsin river with the granite rock the wire keeps the bait just off the bottom and the tungsten weight gives the hard ticking to attract the smallies. Thank you Matt it does make sense!

Hey Matt just found the channel when it came up In suggested videos in my Google feed. As a pond hopper and bank bass 😂and local tournament fisherman for 20 years your video really opened my eyes. I've studied behavior for years to learn how to find and catch more bass but this video has really opened my eyes to this perspective. Subscribed and Thank you for the great info!!! 🙏 Tight Lines Brother

🍺Thanks Matt. Yes I agree. At times they’ll bit on the fall because they were right there (great cast) if not and bass are in the general vicinity of your cast the will come over to your bait if it is still there ( you didn’t reel it in already) and they will get right up on it and look at it. Soon as you give it that little pop they bite. Do that a few times and reel in and cast again. This is what I’ve witnessed in clear bodies of water and my home pond🤠.

I fish my Jig & Craw baits just above the bottom. The same also with Texas rigged Worms.
It has produced very well for me.

Great advice Matt. I normally throw a weightless Texas rig or the lightest weight possible to keep my bait off the bottom for as long as possible. I seem to get more bites.

When I fish the Ned rig and the free rig I always give the bait a couple quick pops before moving it along and I know it triggers strikes. Thanks for the good info as always.

Makes sense. Also probably why some bottom contact presentations where the tail of the bait floats/sticks up like a shakey head or a Ned rig get bit. Bass will bite the tail end and then suck it in

Last week I fished a lake that normally produces CPR for me (Catch Photo Release). The first thing I tried was an UL floating craw on a ned rig. Got nothing. Switched to a flashy unweighted plastic on a size 8 bare octopus hook Immediately, I was catching fish consistently. 2-3lb largies and 15" smallies, pickerel, and even one big bluegill.

I think this is why worms that are buoyant like roboworms or zman are good for Ned's and shakeyheads. The worm is not just laying on the bottom.

I'd swear most of my jig bites come when I'm hung on a piece of structure. I also don't think they wanna suck up off the bottom. But I definitely very my retrieve on moving baits as well till I see how the fish want it.

Been showing my elite crew the best lipless as they don't believe me. Been killing it from the shore. I've even caught two bass at the same time on that lure. LOL. The fish police can't even believe me. Maybe I made everything up.

If you have a clean, hard rock bottom you can still get strikes on the bottom because the bottom is clean.
