I love how it demonstrates how the Mentalist “reads peoples minds.” You can see that he has a “tell” that he scrunches his eyebrows every time he guesses correctly.
It was my favorite trick, everything happening so fast shows that the mentalist also has a quick mind, he analyzes many possible signals simultaneously to determine his results

In real life, it doesn’t work like that. I personally know how to perform the trick, and all you need to do is trim the top of the card in front of the 7 in this case, so that card will stay for two cards time, and it is the one which stands out the most. Try it!
It is actually held a split second longer, making your brain choose it automatically, and the trim is correct

@@Goetterkomplex_ No I'm pretty sure there's just one, but because of the offset of the card (either via a stripper deck card or just offsetting the cards position in his hand) the card is seen longer than all the other cards.

The ending of this movie was pretty crazy. Well done movie, whole time doesn't only make the "characters" fall for tricks but also the audience watching the movie. Good plot twist.

Best magic trick in the movie was that the boat was way out in the ocean when he stole wallet and watch, but could 1 second later jump safely to shore :) Truly magical indeed!
The fact that he shuffled the cards perfectly and put the slightest bit of extra time on the Seven so that’s the only one she and everyone else could see in time, is genius.
I heard something like he cut the card a certain way so the deck would split second stop on the 7 of diamonds, making it the card she would for sure see since it would be in her line of sight the longest, but I’m not completely sure

This movie was something else! My heart is still pounding! I was not expecting most of the stuff that happened! It blew my mind, that's a movie that rarely does that! It's like a drug, I need more!
The reason you're likely to pick 7 of diamonds is because when he fans the deck, it stays few microseconds longer on 7 of diamonds and they brighten the card so it stands out as well.
this is from nine months ago but its not true. There were more 7of diamonds in there than any other card so it’s the only you see often to know what it is

In the beginning who else thought of a 7 of diamond.
The reason you see 7 of diamonds is because there are multiple of them in the deck not only one and they all are behind each other. You can see it if you pay close attention( LOOK CLOSER :P) or if you see it in 0.25 speed.

No the card in front of the seven of diamonds is slightly lower then the rest of the cards making the deck skip a beat when he rips it giving the audience a slightly longer look at the seven of diamonds

At 0:14 you can see a crease in the deck of cards so when he is flipping through the dock he makes sure to spend extra time on that card which is the 7 of diamonds. He also goes through the other cards really fast to make sure they can only see the 7 of diamonds. But I did have to play it at 0.25 speed

Loved this movie, it was a bit confusing but you just had to listen to the dialogue. I had a feeling this movie would have some twists. I watched it a second time, and could see where everything fit. The movie goes just like magic "When they say the trick is here, it's really happening somewhere else."

In the first trick, the cards are shown in such a manner that your mind will focus only on the one card that the magician wants you to see. Smart. Make your audience believe that they have the power of choice when actually they don't.

It's logic is so simple when he shows her the cards at that time he moves the cards so fast but at that red card he slows a bit so she can select it and that lighting is pre-planned and when he throws the cards in air that light starts.

The movie was pretty entertaining. Not necessarily good but very fun. Plus it had Morgan Freeman. You can't not watch a movie and at least somewhat enjoy it if it has Morgan Freeman and if you can....you are some superior being of the highest power.
The way the guy tried to hit the glass for piranha girl always gets me. Reminds of an infomercial when someone hurts their hand opening break. He swings but hits the glass with his body, not the pipe.

Its designed that way. If you go frame by frame you can see the middle of that deck is loaded with multiple 7 of diamonds in a row. So you have a much greater chance of noticing that card. And because he is flipping through quickly, it is impossible to tell in real time that there are multiple 7 of diamonds.

Melisandre The Red There aren't multiple 7 of diamonds. There is instead a slight pause on that card, which makes the eye naturally drawn to it. The pause can either be achieved manually (purposely pausing on the card with one's hands) or by having that card be a different length than the others. Still a pretty cool opening for a film about magicians though.
Barbara Gwen River Smith You guys, they aren't actually performing the real trick in the movie. The movie is using both special and computer effects to make the seven clearer. If you slow it down enough, you should see multiple sevens. And its fairly clear there is some CGI going on here to blur the other cards and make the seven pop out.
I understand the actual trick is done differently, but this is Hollywood's version of the trick designed to make all of its viewers see the card.
Please don't explain it. Even if they guess a wrong method just let them have it.
