    Dr. Douglas J. Lisle, Ph.D.is the co-author of The Pleasure Trap available here:
    www.amazon.com/dp/1570671974?...
    Dr. Doug Lisle is an evolutionary psychologist and co-author of The Pleasure Trap: Mastering the Hidden Force that Undermines Health and Happiness. He and his colleagues (Jennifer Howk and Richard Seidel) have developed a revolutionary method for approaching life challenges and improving self-confidence and self-esteem. They describe their approach as Esteem Dynamics - an approach with clinical insights derived from evolutionary psychology.
    Central figures having major influence on the development of Esteem Dynamics include Richard Dawkins, John Tooby and Leda Cosmides, David Buss, Robert Trivers, Steven Pinker, and Geoffrey Miller. All of these individuals are considered world-leading theorists in evolutionary theory and human psychology. Somewhat surprisingly, insights from these trailblazers has yet to reach mainstream clinical psychology, and thus major advances stemming from some of the world’s greatest thinkers have yet to be systematically applied to problems of helping people improve their lives. Esteem Dynamics is the first such effort, and weds Dr. Lisle’s 30-years of clinical experience to the deep insights into human nature only recently available via evolutionary psychology.
    Dr. Lisle received his undergraduate education from the University of California, San Diego. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Virginia, and was then appointed Lecturer in Psychology at Stanford University. His research and clinical interests include health and wellness, self-esteem, relationship satisfaction, the treatment of anxiety and depression, the genetics of individual differences, and optimizing achievement motivation. In addition to his work with Esteem Dynamics, Dr. Lisle lectures widely on health and wellness.
    Dr Lisle is available at selected days and times for a one-to-one, personal phone consultation:

    I did lots of dating through online sites. If anyone is not open to the fact that I am vegan, why would I waste my time and bother with going out with them? I met someone nice who catches fish for fun and he was keen to go out with me but I wasn’t interested. My husband was a meat eater, I loved him dearly, but he died from a heart attack at 54. I was cooking for him so he would be healthier but it didn’t work. He liked meat too much. His way of eating killed him and I am not prepared to go through it again. It also bothered me to have flesh of roasted animals at home and rinsing plates full of animals fat. No more.

    Dr Lisle is always interesting. I had to listen to this 3 times before I "got it". The piece about personality being determined at conception is actually a relief to me because when I observe certain behaviors in my children and grandchildren, I understand more about the "why" of these behaviors. It is their personality. The environment affects their quality of life and whether they have more or less anxiety due to their environment (the example of the cat in 2 different environments) . I get it! This was very interesting and I shared it with some family and friends. Thank you!

    I found Doug's explanation of personality VERY interesting. Thank you Doug. Personality being a genetic crapshoot seems to give me a warm fuzzy feeling. Good lesson for not trying to change my comrades (or my cats). Explains why I could not learn to worry about things I cannot change, in spite of my mother's attempts to do so.

    This was a really good episode, Chef AJ! I became vegan four months ago because, after looking into it, the vegan diet checked all the boxes: good for me, for the planet, and for the animals. But it's been an adjustment for my family as I've always been the main cook in the house. The good doc is right: keeping humility is key to 'navigating these new waters.'

    • @annaal7480
      @annaal7480 4 місяці тому +1

      It is harder to keep humility after not eating animals for 40 years. I was in the same situation as you and accepted that my husband was on unhealthy carnivore diet and loved him a lot despite of it, but am not prepared to go through it again. It is easier for meat eaters to accept a vegan than vice versa. Meat eaters can eat vegan meals and not the other way around. Also, you are the empath which is good, not bad. I find it really strange that the advise given here is to hide the truth to catch the date. As if we were desperado teenagers. At 65 I don’t do it. I don’t preach, but I also am proud to say that I am vegan if asked. May I add that my husband died at 54 from silent ischemia.

      @@annaal7480 So sorry for your loss. 54 is too young to die. As faras vegans dating non-vegans, I too think it's wise to cut to the chase and let the person they're dating know right away. If they don't like that, best to know early on and not waste time.

      @@annaal7480 I don't think the idea is to lie though. But many ppl have preconceived ideas of how vegans are, and could rule you out before they even met you. OMG, THIS is me, I'm having a hard time dating where I live.
    However, if a person is cooking for their family, they can recreate the family's favorite dishes but using plant-based ingredients. What they do outside of the house is something different. It takes a while to change your taste buds but if that's what is served in the house then it will happen rapidly. Healthy food is not the same as forcing somebody to learn to play the piano. Especially when childhood obesity and diabetes is on the rise.

    I appreciate Dr. Lisle's evolutionary approach, but (not sure if it was this video or another one), I object to his dissing of Dr. Ornish and also Buettner's Blue Zone work as nonsense or mumbo jumbo. A healthy life is more than just "its the food." Loving human connections, community, personal sense of purpose, etc. are at least correlated with stress reduction, which has a huge impact on health.

      This was my first time hearing/seeing him. I read all the comments in favor of him, but I didn't get a good first impression. I think he behaved arrogantly and unfriendly. I get some ppl are matter of fact but his personality doesn't help look past it. JMO.

    • @liahk1000

      I think his claim is that the stress reducing etc doesn't have anything to do with the reversal of arteriosclerotic plaques in the arteries, not that it can't be useful in other ways.
