Thanks for posting! Was born in Galveston and brings back a lot of very sweet memories of tropical storms and other disturbances in the gulf during Autumn. The southeast wind wasn't bad and if really lucky, there was a mild north breeze. We'd go straight from school to a favorite break and get thoroughly stoked before dinner. Great to see y'all having loads of fun!
Surfed the Gulf a couple of times back in the day . Super warm water in the summer, and wet suit water in the winter. Saw a lot of sharks, surf was really inconsistent, but when it was on, the locals ripped.
I had to go back and check where and how strong this storm was for some reason I had forgotten but man is that the perfect looking day, crazy how some of the best surf ive ever seen in Texas was from tropical storms not hurricanes, ones that happen to be just strong enough at the perfect distance away
Lotta XXL t-shirts out there 🤔 Fun vid. Reminded me of standing on the beach before you decide if you’re going in or checking other spots. Two or three solid riders here. I’d have gone out and buddied up with them likely. 🤙🏻
Yea, I actually thought it was better at Packery that day but still great there. We had really good surf this summer. There was a ground swell every other week from May to Oct it seemed. Yes, when it is good here it typically breaks a little further out than what u are prolly used to. That's why Tex surfers are such good paddlers. Actually, this is not what I would consider super far. This is not outside the pier which can happen on really big swells when lot of water is pushing in.
@@rsktransport this is breaking 3 times further out than what I am used to especially considering the size of the waves. double overhead here breaks very close to the beach, maybe 50-75 yards from the beach? well within the end of the broken pier we have. travel an hour to the north and it starts breaking really far from the beach similar to this.... someday I would love to surf Texas for sure
@@xisotopex yea the gulf is not nearly as deep as spots on the Atlantic or pacific. It breaks closer in because it stays deeper until it gets right to beach. All that ocean power concentrated at a small area creates better waves. Here you can go a 2 miles out and it is only 40-60 feet deep. 1-2 ft in Atlantic/pacific is like equivalent of a chest high wave in the Gulf. It is a little deeper in south padre that’s why it gets better there. Anyways, the water is above 80* 8 1/2 months of the year and are sharks aren’t 20 ft. We have consistent wind swell but it is usually disorganized and sloppy. Our good surf is during late fall, winter, spring after fronts or during tropical storm season when we get ground swells. Just got to be there. I freak non surfers out all the time with pics of the surf. They think I’m lying to them.
For years i have checked out surf videos from this part of Texas - would anyone be able to inform me how often it gets like this and what season is the surf most consistent? Sending love from England
The best time of the year is August thru October. This is because of the tropical storms moving in the Gulf of Mexico and their impact on Texas beaches. Christobal was merely an early arrival.
Zooming in too close. As a result have to move the camera too fast to keep the target in frame. Playing catch-up with the surfer during direction changes. I’m not a photographer but I do watch a lot of surfing videos. Zoom in all you want to capture a still photo, but for the video you need a zoom threshold. Also a gyro stabilized camera handle might help
For any Neophyte Mermaids ◘ This is not the place to do man-trapping; Stay on dry sand on the beach and make shark-resistant clothing which is dark alternating with light bands-these are strong surfers and looks are deceptive ••• I swam at Ft Walton Beach at night in a storm that was active with swells somewhat comparable walking off the shallow beach shelf until undertow pulled my feet out from under me and returned to shore *with reserves remaining* Best thing you can do for life-guard is not need them → I assure you they have plenty to do with their time and are proficient at what they do▬This is not the wedge but if one gets "too far out" and becomes exhausted the thing to do is float for a few minutes and not panic then if you do get brave utilize an abbreviated swim-fin sold for the purpose and some flotation device as bodies sink they do not float naturally

Very nice waves! Thanks for sharing them with us my friend.
Finally a video that had a soundtrack that I could actually listen to while watching and enjoying the footage. Well done!
I decided the day before to drive down from Dallas and luckily got to be out there this entire day! Yewww
It was an absolutely epic day. South Packery was the best imo. I was there since 6am and it was magnificent. Epic rides.

Nice video. Looked like fun wavs for sure. Lot of punch. And some tubes.

Best thing you can do for life-guard is not need them → I assure you they have plenty to do with their time and are proficient at what they do▬This is not the wedge but if one gets "too far out" and becomes exhausted the thing to do is float for a few minutes and not panic then if you do get brave utilize an abbreviated swim-fin sold for the purpose and some flotation device as bodies sink they do not float naturally
Looks like nothing but kooks in the water
