Love this place. Been going for awhile now and definitely a hidden gem. Katsu as good or better than the Waikiki/Kapahulu places with the convenience of ample parking at Ala Moana.
Good to know that they are good or better than those other places. I have no patience for long drawn out reservations or no/expensive parking. I'd definitely go back again!
Top hot to navigate such a large shopping center. Prefer the air conditioned Pearl Ridge, Kahala $mall, and Windward Mall, smaller but a lot more comfortable. Thanks for the video.
Hey Misty 👋 That was a lovely review ! Thank you so much for making this happen , it was a great way to start our vacation. Seeing you in action with filming , you make it look so easy ! Great company with Michelle and Jose we loved the occasion ! Cheers Rod and Gem 🤙
Oh you so lucky! I just have a hectic schedule where I cannot make reservations that far in advance. Plus I'm not that patient 🤣 let me know how it compares!
Hey Davyf, How was Tonkatsu Tamafuji ? Unfortunately when we went the other night it was hit and miss. Long story short , Ginza Bairin and Rokkaku Hamakatsu are far better.
Aloha Misty, Aiden and friends: Thank you for sharing with us the nice dining experience you had at this establishment. The atmosphere was great and the food looked “awesome.” This gathering brings back a lot of memories of my friends, and I, used to dine at a local Japanese-themed restaurant, which was located on River Street, between Kukui and Vineyard, which is long gone. Great review vlog with friends. Best wishes to you, Aiden and friends. Much 🧧and 🤙, fellow 🐯!
Mahalo Bill for sharing your story. I never knew there was a Japanese place on that corner. I knew there was one in Cultural Plaza facing the River. Is that the one? Good company and good food is great for the soul. Have a wonderful weekend and take care!
@@FoodFiend Before, they built the new housing on River Street, next to Lum Sai Ho Tong Society’s building, there was a two story building with offices on the top floor and restaurants and stores on the bottom floor. The Japanese restaurant was a favorite for a lot area residents! There was a Japanese shop offering Japanese candies, candy, etc., two shops-away from the restaurant. Those restaurants/shops are gone but the memories and “story-talking” remind me of the great times which is to be cherished - just like the times you have with Aiden, your ohana and friends. Best wishes and “times-ahead,” fellow friend and 🐯! 🤙
Awwwww.. I wish I was there with all of you!! What great company!! And now I know what Rod and Gemma sound like!:):) I met up with Michelle and Jose before I left and always good talks! Please tell Aiden I said hi🤙 those Tim Tams are addictive😋😋😋
Aloha Sean! Next time we will all get together for sure! I will be joining Rod and Gemma again today for some awesome Korean food. They've never had it before. I will tell Aiden hello! And yes, those Tim Tams are addicting. Good thing Rod got us 2 packs LOL. And my neighbor coincidentally bought me some Trader Joe's versions. Did you know Trader Joe's makes their own? Tastes the same too. Say hi to Nhi for me and anxiously awaiting baby Kaleponi soon!
Hello Misty, thank you for sharing your video, foods looking good. I'm still in Vietnam has been traveling to central Vietnam, Quang Tri, Hue, Quang Ngai, Quy Nhon, NhaTrang. weather was beautiful, plan to go up to Sapa huge storm up there mudslides so didn't go up there. I’m going back to the Bay Area on Thursday 10-10. Have a great weekend Misty. Peace.
Oh that sounds amazing Thuan! I've always wanted to do a hike and homestay in Sapa. Hope the weather gets better for you so you can go before you leave. ❤️
: ) WOW! So good to see you with Family and Friends : ) Yummm :) Interesting Australian Money looks like CDN : ) ALL the BEST and ENJOY ! ! Cheers ! ! : )
What a spread of ono Kau kau, Eh you such a bo-bah-lah, that unusal umami is likily in the preparation before the miso is added in the end... Katsu-Bpshi (Bonito shavings are simmered with Konbo (large seaweed leaves) and discarded before the miso, tofu, daikon, potato, and Makamae (tender young Seaweed leaves) is added just before serving.... Hooooo so ono...
Yes I pre filmed trying the treats from Rod so that'll be on your members video next week while we are away. Have you tried the Trader Joe's version? Quite similar! I don't go to Ala Moana much so I'm not sure ifbit was the old Rokkaku Restaurant but the name is similar and has Rokkaku in it.
@harrymiram6621 the b roll is my phone is the same camera I always use. The main camera is a DJi pocket 3 which I have been using for a little over a month. The price is similar to any tonkatsu place here. Tamafuji, Ginza Bairin etc.
So nice Misty having dinner with friends !!! Delicious menus ! Tonkatsu done well ! Great revues ! Mahalo for sharing !!!

Thank you for joining me for dinner Rod and Gemma! We had a wonderful time chatting with you all and enjoyed your company. See you later today!
glad you guys had a good time. No mustard in katsu is a sin. LOL!
I liked the mustard. I don't remember having it elsewhere, but it's been a while since I've been to a legit katsu place. 🤙
Hey Brian , there was a little dab of mustard on the plate , it was more like wasabi-mustard combined. But it was like a small teaspoon size.
@@RodSwansmad interesting. The only mustard i use is pure Japanese hot mustard. Not into fusion stuff.
Another Amazing review
Mahalo Ed!
Great to have guests from all over!
Yes so fun to talk story and eat over great food. 🤙

Cool, I’m a fan of Michelle and Jose and you!
@loganz Mahalo! We've gotten together many times and they are such sweet folks and a pleasure to hang out with!
Ooooohhh, I saw miso butterfish on the menu! 🤤 The tonkatsu looked good. Meet up over food always the way to go. 😁
Yes the butterfish looked good too! They even had a special of saba flown in from Norway? Interesting. And they have tempura too. 😊
@@FoodFiend Saba from Norway? Who knew.
I’ve passed by Rokkaku many times but never went in. Looks great! I’d like to see how it compares to Tamafuji. Thanks for sharing!
@jikotakuhaibin Yes try it. The lunch specials are cheaper. I really enjoyed it and even Aiden said he'd like to eat there again. 🤙

Nice collab and Aiden, too! That tonkatsu looked crispy and juicy. Itadakimasu. No rice? - You'll never become a Yokozuna. 😂 🍚
Lol yes you could probably flick me with your finger and I'd fly across the room. 🤣
This place reminds me of the katsu spot in PearlRidge phase 2.😋
@kevinespino8845 yes I like Koromo too!
Katsu wise I’d say this one a little better but Koromo has curry and this place has sashimi so depends what you’re in the mood for.
Looks delicious! Berkshire pork is premium, worth the price. Thanks again! Sue
@aces7515 yes so worth the price. It was the first time tasting this type of pork. 🤙
Thanks!
You're welcome!
I love Japanese tonkatsu. That and draft Asahi. Sugoi!
Yes always goes good with beer. No beer for me that night because I can't just have one. Once I have one I pee all night 🤣
