I absolutely love that PRS is doing this, it’s a scenario where I really feel like I don’t need a core model, I can be content with these incredible SE’s. Also they have new colors on the McCarty 494 this Sapphire seems to be in every tier! The CE 24 I’m most excited by! It has a satin neck and everything!

The 20% discount is probably due to PRS being overstocked due to the supply chain delays. Whats notable is that PRS is working with their dealers to blow out their overstock where as companies in the past like Fender have competed directly against their dealers by selling direct for less screwing over their dealer who already bought their old stock

They just made a SE Custom 24 Floyd model available for lefties, and I just ordered one. My biggest problem with PRS SE models is how bad the stock SE trem feels. I have a Euro Blasted Ash Custom 24 that felt like absolute dogshit until I dropped a Mann Made USA trem in there (John Mann is the guy who designed the original trem for PRS, and I live like an hour away from his shop...he's still a major PRS dealer in the Northeast). Great guitar construction, but the hardware and electronics kinda suck for such a premium brand.

The absolute revolution for me (and the most important release) is the CE24; It sets a new entry level price but with all the looks of a PRS (I didn't but a standard 24-08 because I associate PRS with flamed maple). Plus the only thing I don't fully enjoy of my SE custom 24-08 is the sticky feeling of the neck when my hands aren't totally dry. So if had had to choose between my current guitar and the CE... I would've definitely chosen the CE... Even at this price I'm considering buying one...

This is a good move for PRS to be the first to price cut ahead of the holidays. Seems like they built too many SE’s versus softening general demand/willingness to pay more from the pandemic highs and want to clear warehouse space by moving these at the expense of some profits, so $550-$600 for one of these are fantastic purchases if that’s your upper budget to buy one

I’m using this sale to get my first PRS guitar with a high probability of more to follow prior to the sale end…IF it ends.
Manufacturers/producers of anything not needed to sustain life are facing a nightmare scenario: stagflation kills them on costs and it diminishes their customer base who now have less to spend on hobbies. Hopefully, PRS isn’t carrying around a lot of debt as that will be fatal in this environment (Dean).

    • @joshbittner
      @joshbittner 10 місяців тому +1

PRS is fine, they likely just built too many of the SE’s versus projected softening demand as compared to when they first ordered the production of the guitars. So they’re discounting the guitars some to try and move them to get most of their profit still, as opposed to sitting in warehouses unsold for awhile

PRS' quality control beats everyones. Only thing I'd rebutt on your video is workers getting paid more -- this in general has not been happening in the private sector during this inflation-cash-grab-apolooza by corporations. The only people seeing wage increases has been C-Level Execs upwards with their repeated record setting comp levels & Civil Servants through wage agreements. Everyone else has had to pound sand on wage increases.

Totally agree with what you said at 9:45 - and yes, doing it with dealers is great. Epiphone has really been taking advantage lately. I love Epiphone, but they are really expensive now when the pandemic’s supply chain issues, shipping costs, raw material costs have largely gone back down in the guitar world (though the tech world is still reeling a bit). Epiphone is pricing out their core customers while trying to attract collectors at this point (such as with the upcoming Epiphone DG-335 that’s expected to cost between $1700 and $2000 from most estimates that are based on other recent signature models). Btw, the Epiphone Modern is still a very fairly priced amazing guitar at $699 (without any discounts) that has incredible build quality, performance, and features - which further proves my point that Epiphone can charge much less on a great guitar (even the signatures) if they wanted while still making a healthy profit. They could very easily go back to pre-pandemic pricing and not charge more than $999 for even their best signature models, and everyone involved will still make a killing. Not the best move to piss its core customers who can no longer afford an Epiphone for a brand priding itself on being affordable and supporting real musicians.
I want to hope this current PRS pricing is here to stay AND will give Epiphone an old fashioned kick in the pants, but it’s not likely. I hope PRS will see the value in number and will keep the SE pricing back at pre-pandemic pricing well past the holidays. The more units you sell, even at lower profit margins, the more a company earns. It’s just basic Economics 101. Thanks to PRS for doing the right thing - and killing it on the model offerings in the past year or two!

The Swamp Ash Special is very cool, but the unsung hero of the PRS USA lineup has been the CE24 for a long time and I do expect it will sell very well.
The US-made ones have USA pickups and a sweet satin neck on a bolt-on body and priced pretty close to S2 Custom 24 prices. Disappointed that the joint has been changed on the SE. On USA ones there's no stump sticking off the top of the body as it connects via a long neck tenon instead, and these are very different. It's a pretty big downgrade, IMO.

The PRS SE/LTD/Ibanez mid tier has become crazy competitive and I don't blame PRS for trying to expand its demographic from rich kids of PRS owners to a more adult/pro midtier, but they need to modernize their sound. This doesn't mean EMGs and Fishmans but it does mean stepping out of PAF and vintage Fender tones. Way behind on pickup evolution

Isn't the 85/15 pickup set known to be quite versatile and capable of nailing both types of sounds? Also, amp and cabinet are far more important for sound

@@dainiusvysniauskas2049 I consistently hear a lack of grit and crunch from PRS pickups across the board. But its to taste. Its like you prefer smooth Scotch like Glenfiddich and I prefer complex and punchy stuff like Laphroagh or Ardbeg. We're both paying $100 for a bottle.

As someone who works in supply chain; I recommend anyone who reads this comment to look at forecast planning within supply chain, as prices are insane all around, it falls on the dealer to pay up front in hopes that they make their money back, and this applies to every process and stop in supply chain, especially materials and manufacturing which has been hit the most.

Pity we don't have Sweetwater in the UK but I really like the look of the new range. In fact, probably good that we don't have Sweetwater here since I am currently out of work... With regards to the discounts, I reckon pretty much all manufacturers will have to follow suit. Sitting on huge inventory loads is not good business.

The fully bound quilt top models never appealed to me. Maybe it's the binding on the headstock. I also wonder if the new ones are going to have issues with the ebony fretboard like Solar and ESP are having. The other two models are cool, though. I think if I ever bought a swamp ash model, I'd replace the middle single coil with a Quarter Pounder.
