Vampire bat? So, if he spliced his DNA with a fruit bat, then he would have to constantly drink lemonade? I want to see that movie
Your comment made me think of this old 80’s cartoon Count Duckula

Mo Citrus
I’d watch the hell outta that
Lol
The Fruitful Vampire
So let me get this straight : vulture gets teleported to a whole different universe and the first thing he does is magically put together a new version of his vulture suit so he can gather a bunch of people he doesn’t know to fight a Spider-Man they’ve never met?
Yeah basically
@@jamesjames7601 …………….brilliant. Way to go Sony.
Well, not really. He mentions that the teleportation probably occured due to Spider-Man actions (most of NWH events ended up staying public, excluding Peter Parker's identitiy being known), BUT what he says next is "Anyways, Dr. Morbius. You and I are evidently unusual types, everyone's going to be after us, so we should hold together to", quote, "do some good". There's nothing like "Hey let's kill Spider-Man". They gather on the basis of being special and exiles.
Wait, didn't he eventually become friendly with spiderman?
@@theitalianalien8477 He only got off the Spidey must die train because he knew Peter Parker. After NWH, that motivation to not go after Spidey/Pete would be gone
For the score, what probably happened was they used Batman Begins for the temp track, told the composer to "Just give us that," so he was forced to copy it. That happens _a lot_ with modern scores.
Truth. I bet that’s exactly what happened.
What about issues of copyright? Do they pay Hans Zimmer a royalty cut?
@@runninginsept if they just change one note then it's technically different from a legal perspective. Many people take inspiration from others. The new batman score is a few notes away from being the dark Vader theme. I kinda know because i like to compose music as well.
@@amateursoundtracker8877 damn that’s all i can hear now that you mentioned it 😂🤔
@@amateursoundtracker8877 Darth vader theme and the batman theme was composed by the same person I think,I don't think the batman theme is similar to that thou
Lol, yeah, anytime I hear young people say they're getting bored with the MCU, I'm like, "Do you have ANY idea how good you have it? You just lived through the golden age of superhero movies. The genre that was a JOKE for most of my entire life. Go watch Superman 4 RIGHT NOW and be grateful you grew up with the MCU." Then I shake my fist and tell them to get off my lawn.
You’re right, but at the same time it’s going to be difficult to sustain another 10 years of almost 90% success rate. The OG cast is gone now, they should’ve considered rebooting everything & starting from scratch again with an all new storyline
@@Bingo_the_Pug that’s legitimately a terrible idea. How do you guys just wanna see the same thing over and over
@@Buddhistsocialist Reboot doesn't automatically mean "retell the same stories," plus they literally said, "with an all new storyline." These are comic book characters with decades upon decades of source material and a number of different takes on them to pull from.
That being said, I'm glad they didn't reboot, but eventually they'll have to if they wanna breathe new life into it. The MCU as we know it won't last forever
You really brought up Superman 4 out of all of the movies you could've name... What about Superman 1&2, Batman and Batman returns, Raimi's Spiderman 1&2, Blade trilogy, X-men and X2, Batman begins and the dark knight?? All of those movies are better than anything from the MCU. I like MCU movies, but they have so many corny jokes in them, and they turned 1 of my favorite superheroes Thor into a complete JOKE!
The best superhero movies are the dark knight, logan, Spider Verse no mcu movies come close
Hot damn! I haven't heard Dan absolutely trash a movie like this in a looong time.
Reminds me of Movie Fights.
Hoot hoot, y'all!
Also check out his review for the new Texas chainsaw massacre. He hated that one
The movie wasn’t that bad at all. It was just rushed. And tyrese? A cop? The cops were the most out of place in this movie
OWL NATION, baby!
Watched it today. I think the people writing this film were like :
"Let's make a film about Morbius the vampire!"
"Yes, great idea."
"We could have him be very sick, then get some bat blood and he then turns into a vampire!"
"Brilliant, what then?"
"Oh........"
Morbius and The Batman - two bat-related superhero movies that couldn't be more different in vision, intent and execution.
I mean, this is exactly what I expected. The trailers have looked awful and I’ve never thought it was gonna be good.
I have that same opinion.
I'm in the same boat. Ive never cared for Morbius as a character and I felt like giving it to someone who has already botched a comic book role was baffling. So when the trailer took itself way too seriously I was like "okay, I'm out"
I didnt think the trailers looked bad, but i did get a sense we see a lot of "better" scenes from the movie.
@@joelzedney4299 Exactly. Dan already said the trailer is different than the lousy movie. Trailers weren't bad.
@@joelzedney4299 I saw the movie already I wanted to walk out and there were still one hour left
Fastest I’ve clicked on a review lol. I’ve already heard things!
Same here.
Saaaaame!! The face said it all
Same lol.
Yeah! 😂
8 seconds in and I’m already loving this review.
The trailers didn't even impressed me. It looked bland, uninteresting, and a mess. I'm not surprised that this movie ain't gonna be that great. The previous Venom movies have been very dissapointing so I guess Sony is consistently making a dissapointing cash grab movies in this universe. Such a shame
I honestly think it's better than the venom movies, which i didn't personally care for. It's ok, something to watch, nothing to write home about
The way he’s powers looked were the only thing that looked decent to me was hoping we’d see them a lot since Venom both the CGI and movie in general looked below average for me
Yup and people are supporting this Sony movies
More like "More-BS", amirite?
The more intriguing thing for me is I wish I could see the movie we were SUPPOSE to get. All those clips with Keaton was clearly building this movie to be something else, and it looks like something must have happened that made them shift the whole purpose/plot of this movie last minute.
You know what the issue is? Instead of crafting a movie with its own identity, they went all in on trying to tie it to a larger universe. Not all of us want that. I just wanted a cool Vampire movie about one of my favourite Marvel characters, they could have made it a homage to the old Christopher Lee Hammer films, they could have done SOMETHING, just anything to give it a sense of identity, but it was apparently more important to follow this same tired old cookie cutter formula.
When people talk about the good old days of comic book movies a reminder that 90% of them looked like this. Thanks for this review. I lowered my expectations but apparently not enough.
"It both rushes and drags" 🤣 ok with the pun at beginning and the Whiplash reference, this is why I love your reviews. Not only are they very eloquent and helps us know if a movie is for us or not, they are highly entertaining.
Thanks for the review, Dan! I only wish that the film was better. I am still going to check it out (eventually) but our tastes are very similar so I'm lowering my expectations down to around Electra and Catwoman. Oh well.
Hahaha. It was not bad at all. Electra
And cat woman? They were terrible. This movie isn’t bad at all. Why does this move have to have Spider-Man references to be good?
Thanks, Ryan! I still haven't seen it yet, so your comment gives me hope :)
The trailers had me worried it would be a bad 2000's comic book movie and it seems it is exactly that or maybe even worse. The whole thing stinks of executives with zero understanding on the character matching pieces of older comic book movies trying to create what they believe will make more money and end up building a weird Frankenstein.
I can almost smell the Avi Arad on this one.
I wasn't watching Morbius in theaters unless there was a glowing review from Dan. So status quo for me. Though I admit curiosity as to the monkey paw agreement Matt Smith had. Hes a great actor.
Saw it and liked it. I Say see it for yourself. Take what critics say about a movie with a grain of salt.
Hey Dan, do you think its going to be anything similar to Venom's reception that its going to defy bad reviews and potentially earn a mainstream crowd that finds it laughably enjoyable?
Well, as one of those who found Venom laughably enjoyable, signs don’t look good
@@DanMurrellMovies ok good to know thanks😅
@@DanMurrellMovies because then I'm going to take itself so seriously and it knew it was a fun goofy time
Yeah, as someone who loved venom this film fell short of my expectations :/
I like it better than the second venom movie at least
Dan!! I'm not even that much of a movie fan, but I'm here for EVERYTHING you do. And that opening joke is part of the reason why!! I love hearing/seeing your takes on movies even if I've never heard of them or plan to see them or not. So fun!
Not quite as negative on it as Dan, but yeah- this was a very average movie at best. I liked Matt Smith in the movie and thought the boat and subway scenes weren't too bad, but the CGI devolved into an incomprehensible mess and those post credits scenes were DUMB. And the Batman Begins thing is so on point. As Dan referenced earlier in the week with Mugato, I felt like I was taking crazy pills! They surely weren't using the Batman Begins theme!
I liked Matt in the movie but still felt the whole way through "my god he could have been a GREAT villain given a better script & direction".
Even Leto, despite what I may think of some of his performances, is above this and is more than capable of providing a memorable performance over this flat result.
Couldn’t wait for this review!!
The movie was going to be a disaster from the get going, BUT in the moviemakers' defense, this was originally planned to come out before Venom 2 & No Way Home, so I'm sure that the movie had to be re-edited, which may have resulted in the world-building scenes that were in the trailers to be cut, bc of the delay in the release...
I guess bedtime can wait another 14 minutes.
Speed thé vidéo it’s 7 minute
Sony again proves they cannot make good movies without Marvel's help, on a side note as a kid I always envisioned a Morbius movie to be more horror themed and would play on body horror movies like The Fly or American Werewolf In London
This verifies that I can continue to laugh at the person who told me Morbius would be better than The Batman.
Who decided to waste a spot on the Sinister Six roster to Morbius?
He's going to look so out of place amid all the BETTER Spider-Man villains
Someone on Twitter said it way better than I could:
“So let me get this straight : vulture gets teleported to a whole different universe and the first thing he does is magically put together a new version of his vulture suit so he can gather a bunch of people he doesn’t know to fight a Spider-Man they’ve never met? “
Think about this carnage is dead Morbious was in maximum carnage. We will never get maximum carnage because no spider man and they killed off carnage so there's no point to have Morbious team up with venom.
@@stefanfilipovits21 I thought that if ANYONE was going to assemble the MCU Sinister Six via Multiverse recruitment, it should be a Mysterio variant.
So, what almost certainly happened with regards to the score is that they used the Batman Begins theme as a “temp score” - this is a common practice of using scores from other films or works as a temporary soundtrack while the film is being edited. The problem is, the film director/editor/producer can become familiar with that temp score, and then ask the composer to make the score be like that temp soundtrack. So, not necessarily the composer’s fault.
So many red flags. And they seriously want to make Madame Web and Kraven solo films.
Dan, I unintentionally watched your sponsor part and have to say, it was impressively well done.
My headcanon is that the creative team at Sony really pushed for an integration with the MCU, but that when Feige & Co (and maybe Pascal as well) laid eyes on the finished product it was a strong veto and things had to be cut. If Tom Holland is smart he'll stipulate his involvement in future Spider-Man movies by Sony requires him being able to veto tie-ins from other Sony movies, because they clearly can't hire the right people. Into the Spiderverse succeded mostly because it manages to fly under the radar, little interest from Management. I really hope Michael Keaton will not have to play a bigger part in this going forward. (And I'm glad Matt Smith has House of Dragon coming up)
Michael Keaton’s scene gave off heavy “This is Katana, she’s got my back” vibes
I'm reading an article that said Jared Leto gave all his acting in Morbius that even the director scared of him,
Then I read a comment: damn Leto gave his all for a movie that will be 20% on RT,
I can't stop laughing
You’d think he’d have learned his lesson after his joker/suicide squad debacle
It might be also a problem of the editing and reshoots. Maybe originally the movie had some merit
@@imperialtutor8687 i agree
Great review, Dan!
My friend and I do reviews, you hit every note. Additionally, we know kraven the hunter and blade are upcoming movies...missed opportunity for post credits...if blade was allowed to be referenced by the mcu. No love relationship between leads, edit problems such as the "cure" still having 2 on the table after milo leaves....its soon bad. And the post credits....
So in other words. Sony continues to be terrible. Honestly just sell the rights to Disney everyone would be better off.
I had the same thought about the film telling and not showing. I remember when he meets Milo at the hospital and kind of makes fun of him a little, and then the next scene they're best friends. But we have no idea why or when that happens, we're just told that they are. And the whole movie is like that. It feels like there's scenes missing.
The whole first half felt like it was rushing to get somewhere, and then the second half just dawdled around not doing much at all. The pacing was sooooo off. The actors were fine, just the direction and writing were the things to blame.
Sony simply cannot be trusted to steward live action CBM properties, now. They've spent a decade and a half proving it. I hate that they own the rights to Spidey and his world.
Thanks for the review. Was on the fence about going. This puts me in the won't go category.
I might see it out of Morbius curiosity at this point!
You’re probably better off waiting for it to hit streaming.
Ok, that was clever 👏
@@stefanfilipovits21 😎
Why bother it’s gonna be More BS anyway
I have to see it. Just to see what they are talking about. I actually read morbious and like him and I'm like how can you mess that up? He does not require spider man to exist unlike venom.
I was planning to see this initially, then I remembered I did not enjoy either Venom movie, so I decided I would wait for Dan's review and if it was absolutely GLOWING, with little to no "bad parts", I would pick up a ticket to see it... guess I won't have to waste the money or time for that! XD
Thanks Dan for saving me money on this one :)
Dan, you earned the like just for that intro 😂😂
this was an entertaining review. you have a clever way of phrasing things.
0:49 Writers of The Last Witch Hunter and Gods of Egypt ... Uuuuurrrgggghhhh
HAHAHAHAHAH! I've not caught Morbius but this is REALLY all I need to know about it. Thanks Dan! 🤣
Concise as always, Nice Dan.
Those post credit scenes man….
Yeeesh 🙄😕😒
all i hear when i think of morbius is the spidey animated version yelling, "Felicia!!"
Did you watch the series adaptation of Foundation? Jared Harris' favorite thing is when his talent is wasted.
My compliments, much to my surprise your opening comments even caused me to chuckle.
As always thank you so very much for your video.
However, I must admit I enjoyed and appreciated many of those early hero movies, even if they left much to be desired. (Doctor Strange (Peter Hooten), Captain America (Reb Brown), Wonder Woman (Cathy Lee Crosby), and of course Batman (Adam West).) I got to watch them when they were released (yeah, old person).
And here I thought that this movie would reopen the doors for either the toby or andrew spider-man.
V. disappointed that didn't happen! Majorly wasted opportunity on Sony's part
Would you have preferred this movie if it was Jared Leto playing Morbius as Paolo Gucci? I know you were a big fan of his performance in HOG.
Hans Zimmer is gonna be smacking somebody
Muffin being a support cat to help Dan get through reviewing Morbius
I agree with you on some of what your saying, they really could have gone deeper, in the mid to last part of the movie it's like you already know where it's gonna go. Which can lose interest. However, keep in mind, if you are someone who loves Jared Leto and just loves Morbius's backstory and character it really revives alot of what the normal person misses. The mortality question, he fights so hard to help find a cure for him and his friend to just survive like a normal person and then realizes he's gone to far. I mean that's a deep issue and a heartbreaking plot. Science will always pose questions regarding morality. I understand they went a little off comic book on it but I'd give this movie a 3.5 out of 5. Once again just my opinion. I'm really dying to see the connection between vulture. But I'm also someone who enjoys the depth of the anti hero characters.
Loved the movie 🎥 as it’s simply a decent vampire film that delves deep into a troubled character that only Jared Leto could pull off
@@knownpleasures "only Jared Leto could pull off"? Are you kidding?.. Leto is such a shit actor.
Im sorry, but are you actual claiming that it's actually a decent movie if only you are a member of Leto's cult?
A vampire living in a world where humans can't be seen bleeding. Can it get even more unrealistic than that.
Lol 😂 straight to the point in the intro. “It sucks” 😂😂
I was hoping for entertainingly bad - oh well.
Awesome review- loved the Whiplash reference
The secretary at my Doctor’s office asked if I was going to see this. Told her no and she asked why. “If I go and see Sony’s bad superhero movies they’ll keep making bad superhero movies. How are they going to learn their lesson?”
I was never going to rush out to see this. Now I doubt I'll even watch it if and when it comes to Netflix. I've thought for a while that Sony needs to get a new group to work on their trailers, usually spoiling key moments. Think this is the first time they've been so outright deceptive. Thanks for taking the bullet for this one, Dan.
Sad as I like the character and Jared Leto and Matt Smith but somewhat I expected even from the early press screening reactions. Thanks for the candid review.
NGL the trailer had me hyped for a second. The more I thought about it, the more I thought it looked like all those mid 2 thousand vampire movies.
Silver lining I doubt Leto will be part of the Council of Vampires next season of What We do in the Shadows
Dan Murrelbius
Thanks for the honest review Dan. This will be one to miss I think. May see Sonic 2 though
During the pandemic Marvel switched the release order to put Spider-Man: No Way Home ahead of Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. As a result, those two films and the somewhat related Sony films had to change around everything that had to do with the multiverse and it looks like it really shows
Muffin is a great cat name! I 💜 Dan. Thank you for taking one for the movie fan team.
Yes, Dan's review AND a cat named muffin!
“Some men just want to watch the world burn.” Or in this case, a flick with already low expectations. I’m still going, and expect a multiverse of bad.
Love that Totoro Singin' in the Rain poster.
need more of ur cats in the reviews 🥺
There was no way I was going to see this, thanks for the reassurance Dan!
Saw it and liked it. I Say see it for yourself. Take what critics say about a movie with a grain of salt.
Always love a review that begins with a pun. 😂👏👏👏
Are you gonna do the new Michel Bay one, please? I found it ok.
It's 1am, but I had to watch this as soon as I looked at my phone and saw this notification. Good work, early trailers were very interesting but just keeps getting worse from later trailers and now early reviews. Not planning to watch
Why I am not surprised.
I’m a sucker for vampire action and my mother and I even like Van Hellsing as a guilty pleasure. This looks below even my threshold. Thanks for your review.
Daaamn that's a throwback. Van Helsing is like the most 2000s movie ever; it's hammy and cheesy and takes itself WAY too seriously and that makes it fucking hilarious. I know what I'm watching tonight.
Van Helsing is certainly a guilty pleasure and it's largely saved I think by Hugh Jackman. Put Jared Leto in that role instead and it would have been a complete disaster.
Hee hee - sucker for vampires 😁😁 Punnage
Van Helsing is vampire camp (campire? lol ) and it earns it's place as an eminently fun-yet-ludicrous movie. I disagree with the sentiment that it tries to play it straight - it literally makes fun of itself the entire time.

Given how tiny phone cams are, you would think some techie nerd would invent a movie camera that doesn't look the size of a rocket launcher!
I want to see more of Muffin
Me too!
So I'm going to see this tonight but it's against my will. I pre-ordered tickets for The Batman for my buddy and I and to pay me back... He.. Uh.. He ordered tickets to this... Even after I've told him it looks terrible and I have zero interest in it. Not exactly a fair trade but I'm going to try to have fun laughing at it.
Can’t wait for the sequel!
I feel like originally Venom and Morbius were supposed set in the same universe as the MCU but not actually part of the MCU so they would tie-in to it and the MCU would ignore them. However with Spider-Man NWH introducing the multiverse they made it a different universe so instead of The Vulture being native to that universe and interacting with Morbius they now have to get him in there hence all his stuff from the trailer being cut, and his shoehorned post-credits scenes.
Hi Dan could you review everything everywhere all at once ! I thought it was amazing and love to hear your thoughts haha
Hoping to see it soon, will definitely review it when I do!
Dan I would pay good money to watch yourself and Grace Randolph review this film across a table. I think it might very well land harder than this years Oscar nonsense. Love your work.
That comment about Matt Smith and a cursed artifact and movies vs tv😂 I honestly don't know much about his movie work. I seem to remember you liking "last night in Soho." What else has he been in, specifically that's bad?
So Sony has failed again at a comic book movie, no surprise there.
That has to be my new favorite opening joke.
nice beard, dan!
Seen Matt Smith in a couple of good films too, but ones that aren’t blockbusters, both his house and official secrets were enjoyable
Best intro pun ever
I've been knowing this movie would be bad for such a long time that right now just feel like I knew from the first time I saw the trailer. Being honest I think I initia was mildly intrigued by it the first time I saw it but also aware it could be really bad.
What convinced me it would be a disaster was when they moved it to January or February, at that moment I knew there was no hope
With the early impressions I was hoping to come here and have Dan tell me this movie is so bad it is worth watching so i am glad he said it isn't. Generic films done poorly are my least favorite and not worth my time. Thanks for the review, Dan! I won't be seeing this movie. Thank you for saving me 2 hours and 15 dollars.
My brother wants to see the movie (we always go together) and I feel as a former Jared-Leto-fan,I kind of have to see how bad this is..
(I love how he “transforms himself” for better or for worse in every movie he does, but here it looks like he just walked off the street into a studio. These could be his private clothes, he didn’t even get a haircut for this…)
I was on the fence for this film. Thanks for being the deciding vote!
0:04 Going for first blood, I see 😂
(This is why we love Dan)
This movie didn’t live up to the negative hype for me. I was expecting a real dumpster fire. Just saw Morbius and it was….fiiiiiine, i thought. Wasn’t good, but definitely didn’t think it was as bad as most have been saying. I found it kind of entertaining in a silly cheesy way. 🤷🏾♂️
Yeh man I thought it was ok,these reviews are borderline slander it was atleast a 6 out of 10 maybe even 7
Sounds like they took the worst villain plotline from ASM2 and put it on the same franchise
i was going to wait for campea to give his 2 cents, but this was the last straw. i was planning to see it as a cheap Tuesday movie if it was meh like new mutants, but too many people have trashed it so I'm just going to wait for it to hit streaming.
After Dr Strange cast the spell in Spider-Man NWH, everyone went back to their respective timelines. We saw this in NWH post credit scene with Venom going back. So. Wouldn’t Vulture leave this timeline and go back to Tom Holland’s MCU timeline and not stay here to become buddy’s with the Sony crew? Or does magic pick and choose whom it wants due to plot convenience.
Also Sony just loves their confusing, blurry, dark, monster CGI fights huh. Crap ton of it in this. Was almost hard to watch at times.
Spot on review. Thanks!
Maybe, this movie is the real evidence that Marvel and Sony have really broken up.
Marvel and Sony only had a deal to co-create the Spider-Man movies. Venom, Morbius and any other spin-off Sony is planning has nothing to do with Marvel Studios.
