The only good thing about social media/youtube is pure gold like Joe Jackson live was captured on film to be enjoyed !! :) . Brilliant musicianship and awesome vocals, as fresh now as it was in 1980.
This song was always special to me, I thought a really great song. Then I read that someone who I admire and respect was there favourite song. That was Thom York, Radiohead.
Dang! Still great in this minimal form; the passion is there, and huge! I feel lucky to have seen Joe twice; he yelled at us for going nuts after a tune, but you could kind of see a smile. Then he launched into this. I have that memory, so it's great to find things like this on youtube.
Oh boy, then you're really not going to like what he did with "Is she really going out with him". (My take: it's his song, he should do whatever it takes to keep him interested in performing it, and that may not be doing it exactly like the studio track every concert...)
The guitar player is Tom Teeley whose natural style is to me totally intolerable. I was very surprised how he imitated Vinnie Zummo very well on the Big World songs because when he isn't doing that, his own style is stiff & unimaginative. He plays only the Written Notes. He does not alter the timing either. So he hits everything On Time. Where you can hear Vinnie come before, after _or_ right on the beat, Tom only ever hits right ion the beat. Zero nuance, to the point that it becomes annoying. Even the volume. If he strums or picks individual strings, they're the same volume. It's like a style-less style.
I love Pantera, and am a grunge child, but grabbing an audience with those deep truths of the human experience is awesome. JJ is sooo underrated.
Fing SO cool to hear

Indeed 👍 I feel extremely fortunate to have seen him live numerous times!
@@indiesindie1984 I wish I had seen him live...I really do .
That’s a pretty cool good thing about UA-cam. I agree with you

This LP helped me through some tough times.
Mr. Jackson: It may be an 'old one,' but it resonated so deeply with me in my youth that you became a well-deserved hero and icon. Magnificent song...

Such a distinctive voice and style. Loved him for over 40 years!
Just had this song on my cd whilst driving home. A living legend from my home city of Portsmouth.
Shout out to the LEFT HANDED drummer!!! Just like me!

What year was this recorded?
This performance is from Joe Jackson's Big World tour in 1986. :)
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
That is terrible.
If you mean the stiffness of the guitar player, I agree.
Is that Tom Teeley on guitar? I love his playing.
