Great video. I just received a 99 with the 32" barrel. I was amazed that it doesn't have much recoil at all. This video was one of the things that helped me decide which 50 to get. Now I've got to find a place to shoot the fun rounds at steel plates and engine blocks.
Damn!!!!!!!! A sweet ass .50, camping, and good music!!!! (Metalllica and Joe Satriani) If that isnt the best damn combination the earth has ever seen, then i dont know what is...
Wow. It reminds me of a video I saw where "they" shot at a simulated building with various rounds to see what damage is inflicted. The guns used were an AR15, AK47, Bolt action .308, and a Browning M2. The .50 carnage was comical, as it penetrated some targets at an angle of less than 20 degrees. Good Video man!
Leopold and Nightforce scopes seem to work the best for me. I am usinf the MK4 rings for the Leopold on it now. Get a variable so you have the option to zoom in or out.
@DarkGlaceon The M99 holds the accuracy record at 2000 meters. The M107 has a shorter barrel than the M82A1 so it has slightly less range. They make a M82 that can be converted between .416 Barrett and the 50 BMG. That rifle is about $9000. I like the M99 for price point but I prefer the M82A1 for firepower and acuracy.
You're right. It's an artillery range finder. The scope I have on mine has mil dots but I think a laser is better for instant range. I uess if you're in a position that is 1000m or better you have a moment or two to get out of the area.
@GuyGuy184 The M95 has a 5 round magazine and can hold a 10 round one. The M99 is a single shot rifle. The M82A1 is semi auto of course but it the full size version. The M107 is shorter and lighter.
@TheMohawkNinja No. Only in a semi auto does the case get really hot. The chamber acts like a huge heat sink. In a semi auto the case gets flung out and can't transmit the heat to the chamber wall.
There are calibers out there that are not standard that are very interesting. the 20mm necked to 50 caliber is one and the 50 BMG improved. I plan on getting a 416 Barrett at some point but not sure when.
It was designed in the 1930's. It's called a "coincidental rangefinder". 200-30,000meter range capability. Most laser range finders are only good to about 440-100m depending on the model. This rangefinder is passive. No light to trace back to the source. It's very accurate, w compared to to a laser and they are right on with each other. We shoot the 50 out to 1600+ yards so we needed something to range it for us.
The M99 is indeed more accurate. The barrel is machine pressed into the monolithic receiver housing to make a rock solid unit. It's well made, easy to maintain and a pleasure to shoot! You should try one.
Yea so I turned 18 last July and was thinking of getting a Barrett when I had the money. I want something that is both aesthetically pleasing and good for shooting targets and dicking around. I was thinking either the M95, the M99 or the M107. Think you could suggest one I'd like best? I'm really looking at the M95 since bolt-action is just so...satisfying to watch the used cartridge eject. I don't live in California, I live in Washington - I know we aren't as strict at regulating firearms.
They do when available. Only certain states restrict them. The best ones are the WCC Armor Piercing Incendiary. They are the most accurate and most effective available to the public. They are good to about 2000m.
@dchstrack Not a DD. A 20mm is the 50 is 12.7mm As long as it's not larger than 51 caliber and the ammunition is not fused. You can get a 600 or a 700 nitro express and it's not a DD because it's not a military arm. If you were to get a 14.5mm Soviet you would need a DD permit.
Nice video. I still regretting not getting one of those Swiss rangefinders when they were cheaper. I like the spotter/tracers because they're pretty abundant, and make a good plinking load. They won't ruin good steel plates, either, so they're good for that. On that standard round that flashed, I've had a few rounds I bought, in reloaded brass, that turned out to be a bit more than standard ball rounds. I'd like to get a Barret M95, both because of Barret's quality, and the letter to LA.
Cool, i kinda figured it was Leupold, but i didn't see the signature gold ring, so i wasn't sure. Didn't know you could get them without the gold. Thank you very much.
I got the rangefinder for about $175 10 years ago. It's super easy to use but it weighs as much as the rifle though. It's very accurate for the 50 out to 5000m and will range to 40,000m
It shoots just fine...I'm the same way as you. The safety can bite your finget sometimes but it's not an issue really. It's easy to shoulder fire!! The balance is perfect for it.
Well it depends really on a lot of factors. The 416 does have longer range but from what I am getting from those who have the rifles in 416 there are issues with accuracy. I think once you go past 1600 yards (1 mile) there are a lot of factors that play into a hit or miss including the earths rotation.
@TheFiredude1980 If I had the money I'd go for the M82A1..for those quick follow up shots. The M82A1 is way out of my price range and is offered in two calibers...416 Barrett and 50 BMG as well as a conversion from one to the other.
i have no use for a .50 or a place to shoot it but it sure does look like fun :o). love the Swiss range finder that was pretty interesting. looking forward to your technical and long range videos.
the ap round looks like about what I did with my 99. I shot at a piece of submarine hull about the same dia but only 1.25 thick. My round didn't go clean through but it left about 3/8 hole in the back. I need to get my baby out again give her a feeding. Gotta love the barrett!
I shook hands with Ronnie Barrett at the NRA Convention in Phoenix. I asked him a lot of questions. I don't have any loads worked up for H50 just H870.
I'm not sure but I still haven't got all my hearing back in my right ear. I use Peltor and they are rated to 19db. Oops..i won't forget them next time I can assure you.
I shot an m95... man it is a beast. The thing is dead on acurate and the rcoil isnt as much as everyone says. the muzzle break heps eliminate a very large percent of recol. I loved shooting the m95.
No not at all. It is a very left handed friendly rifle in many ways. It's lighter than most (29 pounds) amd the bolt hasn't hit me once. It's my friends rifle but I have fired it prone, sitting, standing and kneeling.with no adverse effects.
semper fi brother, just graduated from Parris Island Sept. 23rd, could not be happier! also, is the .416 version of the m99 available with the 32 inch barrel or just the 29 inch?
No kidding?! How did you find that little gem of info? That's awesome! Makes me like my 99 even more... if that's possible. question for you sir: Do you have any max/min load data suggestions for 690gr ball projos using H50? My rifle seems to like hotter charges for ball and I don't want to push it without a point of reference. Thanks!
BOOM HEADSHOT!!!!!! Man, FPS_Doug would be so happy with that rifle. :-) And I've got to say, with the echoing in that little valley and all, the firing of the rifle sounds very, very cool. And yes, those rounds are huge. I've got a ball-point pen made out of an empty .50BMG round. It's actually a really good fit for the hand, perfectly sized. But please, Ammo, wear some ear protection next time!
No not at all. It's very comfortable. It weighs about 30 pounds and it absorbs a lot of recoil. IU am ambidextrous but favor my left side. Some rifle out there are not left hand friendly like the LAR 50
The brake is steel. They offer two brakes. The one I have and one that takes their suppressor. It's an amazingly effective brake. Has less felt recoil than my 300 Winchester Magnum. The rifle itself is a masterpiece of engineering. Barrett uses Krieger barrels on the M99
@pokesfan92 It's amazing how many people forget to put the hearing protection on...they get all jazzed about shooting it and lose their train of thought.
Yes I was..up to the point of the last shot and I forgot to put them in. What a loud fucking rifle!! I lost 20% of my hearing on the right ride that day.
lol...."It was worth it!!!". I myself get that long ringing tone about once a week for several seconds......for now. We'll see how it is in a few more decades.
One of the best barrett and .50 BMG videos out there. Thank you.
Great video. I just received a 99 with the 32" barrel. I was amazed that it doesn't have much recoil at all. This video was one of the things that helped me decide which 50 to get. Now I've got to find a place to shoot the fun rounds at steel plates and engine blocks.
I'm torn between the 29" fluted and the 32" heavy barrel?.. 🤔 Thoughts?
I shot one of these yesterday for the first time! It was awsome! I'm only 14 so I'm like the only person In my school that has shot a 50 cal!
dude , one of the best m99 videos on youtube !
Damn!!!!!!!! A sweet ass .50, camping, and good music!!!! (Metalllica and Joe Satriani)

Still ringing in my right ear...and the Doc says I lost 1/3 of my upper range hearing. It was worth it!!!
No. I am not sure what it is exactly but they were pulled from the 50 Spotter round (the short 50) then loaded in the BMG. The really kick too.
Leopold and Nightforce scopes seem to work the best for me. I am usinf the MK4 rings for the Leopold on it now. Get a variable so you have the option to zoom in or out.
wow....i pity the guy on the wrong side of the barrel...how many rounds can the m99 hold?
1
Uno

We were listening to XM radio too...strange how things just fall into place.
@TheMohawkNinja No. Only in a semi auto does the case get really hot. The chamber acts like a huge heat sink. In a semi auto the case gets flung out and can't transmit the heat to the chamber wall.

@GRFalkonas This isn't a gas operated weapon. It's a single sho bolt action. The barrel is made by Krieger and is arguably the best barrel to be had.
Really good one there MR. AMMO, can't wait until the next one.
Yea so I turned 18 last July and was thinking of getting a Barrett when I had the money. I want something that is both aesthetically pleasing and good for shooting targets and dicking around. @snipinggod29 That I'm not sure of. The .416 is still catching on but I really think bigger is better. Barrett needs a 20mm version.
Not sure if the ballistics. The 50 BMG has a wide assortment of ammunition that makes very useful. I don't think the .408 has that option.
They do when available. Only certain states restrict them. The best ones are the WCC Armor Piercing Incendiary. They are the most accurate and most effective available to the public. They are good to about 2000m.
HI! Great rifle and wild Swiss rangefinder .Can you tell me a little bit about the MSRP of Swiss rangefinder and it is easy to operate?
It's a leupold LR 8.5-22x50mm and it runs about $1200 depending who you get it from.
M99 is single shot bolt action the M82A1 and M017 are semi automatic 10 shot rifles. The cost diffetence is about $5,000.

I got it throught Deutche Optik and I got that other thing and I can't figure it out either. I think it's a calibration device.
Oh.. Sorry to hear that. Keep up the good work man, love your videos!
Cool, i kinda figured it was Leupold, but i didn't see the signature gold ring, so i wasn't sure. Didn't know you could get them without the gold. Thank you very much.

Yes...with a tungsten steel core. The lead core ones will not penetrate like the 30 caliber AP.
It depends on where you get it from. This one has a Leupold LR scope on it.
Great video.
How to get the money to buy all that hardware?
nice one mr ammo, when are you back in the reloading room
@TheFiredude1980 If I had the money I'd go for the M82A1..for those quick follow up shots. The M82A1 is way out of my price range and is offered in two calibers...416 Barrett and 50 BMG as well as a conversion from one to the other.
Your range finder almost looks like it would launch something! Cool video.
tnx ammosmith for uploading. very interesting video.
i have no use for a .50 or a place to shoot it but it sure does look like fun :o). love the Swiss range finder that was pretty interesting. looking forward to your technical and long range videos.

Not yet. I plan to though as soon as I get the time.
Thank you very much! There will be more I promise! More technical and long range shooting.
I like the ability of getting AP, API, APIT, APT and other specialized rounds for the 50 over the .416
you have a great taste in music ammosmith
I shook hands with Ronnie Barrett at the NRA Convention in Phoenix. I asked him a lot of questions.
I don't have any loads worked up for H50 just H870.
I'm not sure but I still haven't got all my hearing back in my right ear. I use Peltor and they are rated to 19db. Oops..i won't forget them next time I can assure you.
Hahaha, that must ve fun shootin' the ol' Barrett! I have that same gun and it is alot of fun. Very good music by the way!
You can get any round you want so long as it's not filled with exlosives. Right now the ammo is hard to come by since ammunition being hoarded.
Just plain awesome! Where do you pick up those speciality rounds?
semper fi brother, just graduated from Parris Island Sept. 23rd, could not be happier! also, is the .416 version of the m99 available with the 32 inch barrel or just the 29 inch?
It's no big deal. Thanks for the kind words.
Your playlist is backwards. 5 through 1?
No kidding?! How did you find that little gem of info? That's awesome! Makes me like my 99 even more... if that's possible.
question for you sir: Do you have any max/min load data suggestions for 690gr ball projos using H50? My rifle seems to like hotter charges for ball and I don't want to push it without a point of reference. Thanks!
you must have some really good friends to get those incendiary rounds
Love the Led Zeppellin in the background at around 6:55
Absolutely awesome video! Where was this filmed at?
The recoil is really not bad. I am pretty good to about 200m..as long as I don't have to hold it up for very long.
@pivotraqert They shoot the same ammunition but the M82A1 has the advantage of being semi auto.
It does...it's offered in 50 BMG and .416 Barrett
Fairly soon. I am working on a DVD right now.
@Ratkill9000 These are standard and not the HEDP ones from Norway.
It's a destructive device and stricly controlled.
best 50cal video ive seen thanks for posting it
No not at all. It's very comfortable. It weighs about 30 pounds and it absorbs a lot of recoil. IU am ambidextrous but favor my left side. Some rifle out there are not left hand friendly like the LAR 50
Makes a 30-06 look like a 22!
@krazzykid96 It's like that every time we go out camping. Awesome!
I just noticed you have a m82 brake on your 99. Did your 99 come with the titanium brake ? Seen Barrett was replacing them some time ago.
The brake is steel. They offer two brakes. The one I have and one that takes their suppressor. It's an amazingly effective brake. Has less felt recoil than my 300 Winchester Magnum. The rifle itself is a masterpiece of engineering. Barrett uses Krieger barrels on the M99
That incendiary if i remember correctly is the Rafoss Mark 211 mod 0 incendiary. Very nice bullet.
Awesome vid! One of the best shooting vids on UA-cam.
But no hearing protection? That can't be healthy
good video - nice Led Zep in background
Semper Fi, brother. I'll probably wind up getting one of those beasts for Christmas. :)
ItsMayorBee did you ever get one? Lol
I seen a Barrett 99 for sale up here in Canada for 4300$ .
taiming71 Too much. I can get them for only 3000 to 3400. They're not too expensive.
In what USD or Canadian dollars
+josh cummings Used?
If it was used it was used very little.
Thanks for sharing this great video!
Good sound track if you listen close enough. “ we’ve got big balls!”
It's for long range target and also for hunting for those who want to use a rifle like this.
And that wasn't the discarding sabot round either. That will easily go through 3" and then some.
excellent video, can't wait to hit the range and shot mine.
@pokesfan92 It's amazing how many people forget to put the hearing protection on...they get all jazzed about shooting it and lose their train of thought.
im English, but holy shit, only America could create a beauty like that.
Yes I was..up to the point of the last shot and I forgot to put them in. What a loud fucking rifle!! I lost 20% of my hearing on the right ride that day.
shoulder firing like a boss lol I'd be squeezing that thing so hard I wouldn't be able to hit anything
This man is hilarious! I loved watching him blow the crap out of metal plates.
@rayhjr09 theres a range in polo you can shoot them at, but its only like 200yds
That sight is crazy looking. Where did you get that? I didn't like the M82 is the M99 better? It seems to be more accurate.
Wish we were out there right now brother!
Me too Jim!!
lol...."It was worth it!!!". I myself get that long ringing tone about once a week for several seconds......for now. We'll see how it is in a few more decades.
Muzzle break comes off for that round.
i just shot one of these last night and my ears r still ringing
The rifle is a real dream to shoot.
"I wonder if they heard me shooting at them?" *POW!!!!!* "Probably not, you're only firing a smaller version of a grenade launcher."
@rayhjr09 I don't know. Come to our forum...we have people from IL there who may be able to help.
I got the rangefinder thjrough Deutche Optik
We got them at a gun store. All are legal in areas where allowed.
