I always joke that whatever problem you have, somebody on youtube has your solution. So here I am, watching Todd Gibbs solving my problem for a jammed plunger in a fuel distributor in my 1979 porsche 928😂😂 thanks Todd!

Well done. Really tight tolerances on those parts. With all with all the engineering that went into the 928, it’s no wonder they were so expensive when they came out. You sure make interesting videos. Thanks.

Thanks - I've never seen anything engineered so precisely. The tappets were good, but this plunger was another level. Apparently you cannot swap plunger from fuel distributors as they only fit that one (perfectly) !

Thanks Terry - this video started life very differently. It had a tiny bit of distributor (just fitting the 8 o-rings) and lots of the water regulator/distributor... but as the sealant arrived in time I re-cut it to focus on the FD. Quite pleased how it turned out :)

4 more vids under my belt and again learning curve steep, its like watching children grow up, this 928 coming back to life, before you know it, its time to leave the garage under its own steam
I can see if I go the restore a 928 route, these vids will be a great reference to refer back to
Very impressed with your vids and rebuild quality, looking very smart
£3000 for your car, thats good, got a couple of non road legal 928's here for sale, one a S4 with engine fire but with a parts car as well ~£10,000 and an '81 UK S ~£7500 but needs new brakes and no doubt many other bits sorted to make it road legal, but is runner but probably needs all the plumbing + belts sorted to keep it running
No hurry, never seen so many up for sale over here

Well done! Episode 24... nice! Spoiler alert, the rebuilt CIS fuel distributor that many people said don't rebuild works perfectly :)
2 928s,... very cool. Where are you located?

Hi Todd. I didn't notice if the distributor rotator was lined up to the notch on the distributor body after you seated the gear. I can tell you from hard-won experience that being off even one tooth will give you a badly or non-running engine.

Hi Todd! This is GTS. I have several transaxles and I sometimes changed the black rubber cover on the distributor to other distributors which haven't had a cover. I am seeing the clamps on yours. I think you can move the cover on the new distributor and probably you don't worry so much about the clamps. However, I would try to keep them. I don't have a 928 of the 1st generation. I only have 928 S4 and the GTS. By the way, I have a bent transaxle shaft... which gives me a headache, as I need to get my car out of the workshop asap and I can't find any replacement in Taiwan. Cheers and have a nice Sunday. PS: I keep my fingers crossed that your transaxle shaft is straight.

Hi Palatina, yeah I think I'll just cut those straps and move it across... Will wait for a few more comments though, just in case :)
Sorry to hear your transaxle shaft is bent - would it be too expensive to import one ? There are used ones in the UK for around £40-50..

@@MrToddgibbs shipping would be an option, but with covid, it doesn't really work. Super expensive and way too long. I am looking at options north of 1000 USD

Oh wow - thats not good. It is something I could source and send ? would that be any quicker?

@@MrToddgibbs Hi Todd! I have good news. I found a shop which repairs shafts for truck. They were able to get my transaxle shaft straight. The shaft in my car was bent right at the end where it gets tapered and slimmer. The remaining shaft was slightly bent up to the first bearings seat. Best thing: two new bearings installed (hell of a job) and a straightened shaft just set me back 120 USD. Very happy! Thanks for offering me help. However, shipping takes ages now. DHL prior to covid was 10 days from Europe. Now I am waiting 6 weeks and still hasn't arrived. Best wishes Andreas

The black cover is, I understand, to keep crap and moisture off the distributor cap. Other people will tell you that all they do is trap moisture inside. So who knows....

    • @MrToddgibbs
      @MrToddgibbs  3 роки тому

From what I can see its only use is to number each connection - I'll probably just cut the little straps and move it across.
