check your valves, they will get loose or can get tight and will cause the quad not to idle and not to run good when they get warmed up, also hard to start like yours, and can cause smoking sometimes. The smoke from yours isn't actually bad, not bad enough for it to make the engine run like that, i think the valves is loose and making it have low compression, that would also be the reason for it not making power when you in like 2nd gear or so. easy to check before you spend money on top end.
