The best part is the Toad spot was not intentional. Fir went into the castle without thinking and hid there as a panic option. The video doesn't convey it super well, but watching the stream from his perspective, seeing literally every seeker come and go, was top tier content.
tips for doing camouflage: 1st, never try to split colour palates, always commit to one colour. when you split 2 different colour camos, one colour will always be more visible in your environment, making you stick out. 2nd, dull colors rein supreme, anything vibrant or bright (like a white helmet) will catch peoples eye. generally, find colour options that don't have much saturation, as those tend to blend in best with surroundings. though i guess with mario odyssey, that might be kind of difficult. finally, the best spots for camouflage are areas with a lot of noise. anywhere with lots of objects, or even just a lot of other colours, will help obscure you. just remember, if something can catch your eye, it will also catch the eye anyone whos looking for you. whelp, there's your camouflage tips, personally id say replace the helmet for something either green or grey. however, knowing how mario odyssey does feature a lot of areas with white colour palates, it might not be a bad idea to instead swap the overalls for something like the skeleton suit, or wedding dress, as either will benefit in the snow or moon kingdoms, however that will also play to your detriment pretty much everywhere else. so generally just pick a single colour, and hope you don't get unlucky with the kingdom.
Only thing though with odyssey is when inside objects like the tree or behind a chest it makes a somewhat dull silhouette of Mario appear (which tbh surprised the mod if it is one. Doesnt remove this thus making hide and seek actually possible since the whole somehow weird cray theougg physical objects thing the game has)
i did notice while watching this stream live (from smant's pov) that you did seem a bit saltier than usual, so im glad you realize that having fun with the game rather than sweating for a win is more fun for you
I think the hide and seek rounds very much profit from spontaneity. I've seen the others try to use planned spots as well during the streams and they usually fail and/or are not as funny as wacky panic spots and I often find myself rooting for the person with the dumbest one, like Fir behind the Toad
@@SlinkSup99 Here, you see the SmallAnt in his natural state. He ponders of what to do. Start chaos and then leave, or slice everyone's head off with a hat. Looks like he chose the chaos. *insert the most epic chase scene ever*

I really relate to your frustration! I hope you get a round of better luck next time, CJ.
People say that it's all about having fun, and I agree, but the guy wanted to try for real this time, and it's really crushing that you spend hours looking for spots just for them to be ruined so fast (Smant spoiling his hide, the 5-second rule not working, he falling at the wrong time...), still, it's not the end of the world, but anyone could relate to the feeling :P
@@ninjabobbob8090 Jesus what the fuck dude, their friend group is about them and their friends, not you. You certainly don't need to go harass them in the youtube comments
I cannot envision a way where this would work. They could literally stand out in the open, put the controller down, and still never be found if none of the seekers managed to randomly bump into them. Instead of hide and seek, it'd turn into a game of "let's all walk in a straight line so that we can hope to find them." Just imagine this in Sand Kingdom. And even if they weren't allowed to move after they got situated in their hiding spot, we're still looking at potential hours of just walking over literally every pixel of ground, right? I know you can see the shadow of someone wearing the invisibility hat, but in some areas, like some spots in Wooded Kingdom, you might only be barely able to see it, if at all. I could see seven people chasing a shadow in the sand being fun, but the hide and seek portion of that wouldn't be very interesting, imo.
Luck is a big part of it. However, you aren't willing to do whatever it takes to win. Like, you aren't willing to sell out everyone else like Smant is. Smant will literally look for people while hiding so he can find them quicker later, and so he can sell them out in a chase. If you aren't willing to be cut throat, and you're just trying to have fun, you're not going to win as much, and I think we both agree that's probably a fair trade.
The thing I find the most funny is that in the beginning when you talked about how Fir and Smallant often win these, I thought to myself, would be really funny if he got third behind smallant and fir.
I don't know how cj (and his editors) do it, but i always watch the whole vod of a stream (i am interested in) and ALSO the video. Like its the same content, but somehow entertaining two times in two different ways, so good job guys!

Hide and Seek is a fun game because of how the mechanics interact to create spontaneous experiences. Good hunters will know where most good spots are and tend to check those first. Everyone has a plan, but often those plans intersect. Hiders can have the same idea of where to hide. Hiders could be running away from a seeker right into another random seeker who wasn't chasing them. Hiders while running could lead the seeker into another hider on accident or on purpose. It's a game designed to have no optimal strategy, so the correct way is to play low-stakes and lax.

To be fair, Smant likes to pick birdwatcher spots where he can see people.. and typically is a bit over confident in his ability to escape. The guy pretty much plays to meme and very rarely has tryhard moments with the goal to win.
And it's always hilarious and Smant does a top-tier job of making H&S funny. It's so much funnier to watch someone with a bird's eye perspective than to be stuck in a wall
21:51 Can I just say that was satisfying to watch? Smant always usually gets away in that forest with Crafty right behind him. That was the first time Crafty actually caught him.
I actually think the chase and the other hiders being able to call out your location for their times makes the game deeper. You not only need to think about an escape plan to another hiding space. You need to consider how other hiders will respond to you if they see you. And plan for their reactions
A white head and green-blue color is legit a real way animals use camouflage to blend in. Sharks are blue above to blend in with the surface water when seen from the air, and white below to hide with the sunlight when seen under them. It's really cool.
Great video! Btw, that jump mars tried in Metro to escape is possible, however, it's considered the third hardest vault jump in the game called vault city reacher
I'm looking at this for the first time. One trick I found in Odyssey is a glitch that brings you to glitch into a building. You have to roll so many times for it to work. It's in this one spot in a crack behind a vent system and the building wall.
I think I know why SmallAnt so easily evades capture on this. I've noticed that he likes to hide in high, hard to reach places, sometimes even utilizing odd physics or glitches to get there. If he's not in a hard to reach spot, he often picks a location that is easy to escape from. Regardless, he always picks a spot where he can see what's going on. He's always watching as much of the area as possible, for both hiders and seekers. So if you ever want to find SmallAnt quickly, try to think of what locations would give you an advantage by letting you see others from a long distance.
The jump Mars did in metro is possible, but it’s a god tier jump called Vault City Reacher. It’s one of the hardest jumps in Mario Odyssey to do, and Mars went for it mid hide-and-seek😂

Idea: Hide and seek game, but you start off with one seeker and 7 hiders and the hiders have to try to beat the game. Once the hiders beat cap the seeker hunts them down and tries to stop them from beating the game, adding hunters as people are caught, and no one is allowed to abuse cutscenes

Such a drama queen. It's not always about winning or losing.
hide and seek logic:
you get found instantly in the most obscure and top tier spot
you last ages in one spot by barely crouching behind a toad
Or smant just talking to Koopa in the open. A Classic
But the dumb spot only works if it's a panic spot. If you try to deliberately exploit this phenomenon, you'll be found in seconds.
The best part is the Toad spot was not intentional. Fir went into the castle without thinking and hid there as a panic option. The video doesn't convey it super well, but watching the stream from his perspective, seeing literally every seeker come and go, was top tier content.
