    As a kid, I remember seeing one of the Alcos at Hicksville. I can't remember the number, but I can still remember the sound and the smell - it was like nothing I'd seen before up to that point.

    Simply brilliant. It is nice to see all the FA's in action, especially my favorite one, 617. Great job.

      I agree with you. I have # 617 in HO scale. I would have liked to go in the real one.

    I've always liked the horn on #607. I even have a short video of that engine on You Tube. Nice memories.

    I know that LIRR Alco FAs 600-606 were former L&N FAs numbered 317, 309, 315, 314, 310, and 321. I don't know about the ones in the video though. With L&N they were painted solid black with gold lettering. Some were equipped with steam generators and occasionally used in passenger service. LIRR acquired them and converted them to cab control cars. I don't know what has become of them now since they aren't in LIRR service anymore.

    I think 617is currently at the Danbury rail museum, not running, as I think it had been converted to a cab car

    Did they always run a FA on one end and a Geep on the other? No cab cars on the LIRR?

      the alco's were at this point cab cars. They didn't have prime movers. Just HEP generators. The Geeps had no HEP (and i can't remember if those old coaches ran steam heat) They either used an MP15, an F unit, or the Alco as a cab/generator.

      I’m surprised an MP15 freight engine was repurposed into a power pack.

    Very impressive. 271 doesn't sound that good anymore. NYAR beats her ass in. But at lease shes still pulling on the lirr system.

      Some kind of GP40, it's turbocharged

    • @wdd6864
      @wdd6864 5 років тому

      They used GP38-2s and then transferred some of them over to New York and Atlantic when the DM30AC and DE30ACs came along

      Miss these locomotives. Those geeps are still going, and the emd sets they run now have been nothing but problems

      The DE30AC and the DMs should ha e the word "Winnebago" written on the sides of them the look like RVs on tails and an absolute eyesore on the LIRR line, in other words I miss the old trains of LIRR

    if it were mine i would personally rebuild it and try fitting a 710 in if i had that much money to piss around.. her 645 should last a long time. she was never pulling freight like she is now...the c420's did her job back then. the m7 should be tortured by nyar
