“As long as Dr. Baltar’s target information is correct...”
*Gaius ‘total desperate guesswork’ Baltar sweating bricks*
Didn't Omega Six give him that information to steer humanity's destiny?
@@paulmichaelfreedman8334 I think she told him to ask for guidence from god (the Cylon one).
I'm more interested in D backdoor! Apparently it's open😅

And always hoping they never ever find out what he did to land them in such a pickle in the first place.
I love the stark contrast between Adama's and the rest of the CIC's reaction at 6:35. Everyone's cheering and celebrating, he's thinking to himself, "another dozen of my kids aren't coming back."
Maybe 6 or 7.. But still awful for a commander to feel
He just stoic
Yea, stoicism is hiding your emotions well.
One thing to be in command is be ready to order people to maybe their death
It's not that, it's pride. He's proud of Apollo. But E.J. Olmos has quite unusual way of expressing emotions on his acting.
"Tell our people to pursue and destroy."
"Strike one, tear em up."
You can quote. Well done. Enjoy those likes.
Cylons are running away for the first time
It''s not about Baltar's guesswork, or Lee's amazing piloting skills. It's that good lighter with +100000000000 luck bonus which helped them through this.
Plot armor is a powerful thing.
@@dpt300 He had friendlies surface side being shot at by missiles and flak guns, and the slow to a stop after the tunnel was to visually confirm a target. The speed it he was going at was of the utmost importance to try to make sure as many of his Squadron made it back home alive as possible. Furthermore, friendlies were engaging another force at the same time as this mission and the Cylons only retreated after the facility blew up, meaning that the longer he took going through that tunnel the more friendlies that potentially could have died in that other engagement. Maybe take into account the entire scene and the moving parts around it before dismissing something as "for nothing".
It wasn't guesswork it was the one true God. Baltar in his own words "an instrument of God"
@@benjaminsmith8911that’s called plot armor, or a deus ex machina, the laziest form of writing and the worst thing they did in the last season was bring “god” into it.
@Buster Bear The series creators were Mormon, and Mormon religious concepts played key roles in the overall plot line. This was never intended to be a story about how unaided humans coped with an unprecedented disaster. From the beginning it was always about how God assisted them in achieving His goals.
I say this as an atheist who enjoyed the series despite being annoyed by that aspect of it.
Wedge Antilles: I flew into a nice wide open shaft leading to the Death Star core once.
Apollo: That's cute.
I just love this "backdoor is open" scene
The container ejects, the vipers launch, the awesome music brings heavy chills, the camera flips and then the same on the planning desk. Just awesome!
Simply love the camera and music...and EVERYTHING!!!
The camera has its own life.
Why did nothing else ever come close to that ever? xD
I love how everything made sense, and they won due to superior tactics. In a lot of shows/movies now, writers don't know how to do that, so they just get bailed out by some random BS
@@Neoony I think Arcane has proven it can come back
This really makes space combat look as dangerous and scary as I imagine it would be. A pilot friend of mine told me, "If you aren't scared, you aren't doing it right."
Real space combat for fighter like space craft is 100% suicide. As is all space combat. Essentially first side to fire first wins, but most likely the destruction is mutual.
You should watch the expanse. Space is deadly dangerous even without combat, but within combat, its crazy dangerous.
You might want to check out Babylon 5 if you want to see more space battles with that feel.
@@johannesmakila2459
Babylon 5 has the best looking battles, but not necessarily the most realistic.
Scary, but also fun. In another 100 years or so maybe this is what our Space Force will be like. Out of all the sci-fi series, I think Battlestar Galactica gave us the most realistic look at what future space based warfare will look like.
I was so skeptical when they announced this remake and it turned out to be one of the best SciFi series of all time!
Except it's closer to a continuation of the original series
@@richardhicks5031 everything that has happened before will happen again, so perhaps it is in a way
Yup
It certainly did. this show would not even be possible now. This is how diversity is done. NO MENTION of it, just do it. Show it in action. No resentment. Just team work. No hatred, just love for fellow crewmen.
If this was done today the wokeism would be overbearing and in your face, and the entire show would be completely ruined.
@@nomorerainbowseither that or it's done this way, but because the woke people don't get their so called "deserved representation" they find any way to boycott the show or cancel it.
You get goosebumps when they succeed. It doesn't happen that often within the series. That's what makes it powerful. I love this show, and always will.
Apollo: The conveyor tunnel's clear. I'm going in.
Kat: You're out of your frakking mind, Apollo.
Ace Combat aces: [chuckles]
Yessssss I thought this on my third watch through of the show
He had it easy. He can slow down, strafe and/or hover. We had had high speed aircraft trying to hit targets on the floor while not hitting walls or pillars while being shot at by small arms fire. At least that's how I remember it... On top of that, having to repeat the pass through at least 3+ times to be thorough... XD
@@DustinBlaise Don't forget trying to shoot down slippery drones.
or chasing that one drone at highspeed under a minute while taking out nodes in 7 and having to pull off the two high g turns to get out of the underground at the end of 7
Those who have played crimson skies have done crazier shit
The soundtrack music really helped to make this show.
I notice middle eastern and celtic sounds and tonalities. I think it gives the soundtrack a very earthy feel, kind of a beginnings of civilization vibe, which was what the original series hinted at.
Bear McCreary was the new kid on the block when this show was made. Now he's a god among musicians. He scores most of the best shows now.
@@EvilDogMedia If you like what Bear did for BSG, you have to check out his music for Human Target. Criminally underrated show, for what it was (tongue-in-cheek, cheesy 80s-style action-adventure). Bear's music on HT really leans into his Williams-esque mastery of leitmotifs and it's really astoundingly good, clever, and high-production stuff for a network show. For the S2 finale, he assembled the largest live orchestra ever recorded for a TV score, and it shows.
I've always found it disappointing when movies/TV rely on music to support the story. It frequently leads to the use of overly atmospheric, generic Zimmer/RCP/MV type stuff that sounds awesome but doesn't seem to mean much. Instead, I think music is much more powerful when it supports characters. That's what Bear does, and you can literally hear characters announce themselves and grow and evolve and live and die in the music.
And then once you're done with that, check out John Powell's score for How to Train Your Dragon. The movie is great, but it's the music that really makes it. Powell is by far my favorite Zimmer acolyte, and he's really distinguished himself with a unique sound and penchant for fun and unexpected instrumentation- just like Bear here, with his focus on Asian and Middle Eastern sounds.
BSG was such a game-changer for science fiction when it came out, and I think Bear McCreary's music was a huge part of that.
I love the big orchestra sound for sci-fi, a la John Williams. The only problem is that people started thinking sci-fi could ONLY ever sound like that. Bear McCreary showed us all it didn't have to, and it was awesome.
In Bear we Trust
1 Action sequence with at least 3 personal stories playing out.. BSG at its finest...
I love the details they had on this show , like the little nose-jets and just the way the ships move, the way I would imagine they would "realistically" move in space.
And that scene right there is why Lee Adama is a very underrated badass.
Because he is an ultimate professional with no self-indulging flaws except that sore wound about his brother.
Yet people aren’t going to let Pegasus go.
@@georgeowain The way I see that battle, Pegasus was the only ship with the armor left to bear the brunt of the Basestars to give the other ships time to get away. Galactica didn't have the staying power to occupy the attention of the Cylons for long enough to do the same job.
@@cfmontolio yes, however there have been concepts brought to light of plans that could have allowed both Pegasus and Galactica to escape that battle, not to mention Lee disobeyed a direct order by his father to not come back for him.
@@aresthecrazy9335 I know I wrote one of them. But long and as it is I’ll throw it your way and you can let me know what you think. We use the hidden viper trick shown here but with a mix of raptors and strike raptors. The standard raptors use their electronics to broadcast battlestar signatures and bait the cylon base ships in. While the cylons come to take a look the non strike raptors unload drones and jump out. The strike raptors unload their nuclear missiles as close as they dare and run. Then you have a retrofitted “ fire ship” jump in behind the cylons. The fire ship is a vessel loaded with several nuclear weapons set on a direct collision course with the cylons ( the person driving it will be committing a 1 way suicide run unless they’re in a viper set to disengage at the last minute with the ship automatically tracking a base ship). While that’s going on both Pegasus and Galactica jump in over new Caprica. Galactica immediately goes to supporting the folks on the ground while Pegasus uses her superior firepower and her full armory to keep the cylons off balance. While the cylons are engaged with both the fire ship and the strike raptors additional vipers deploy from Pegasus to keep them that way. A 3rd wave of raptors jump in on the opposite side of the planet pumping out more CF signals to make it look like additional vessels might be coming ( broadcasting Valkyrie class ship signatures etc). Then they deploy drones with self tracking nuclear warheads mixed in. While this is going on the Vipers and Strike raptors head for whatever ship they can land on fastest, then Galactica and Pegasus provide cover fire for the fleeing civilian ships. Both Battlestars deploy nuclear missiles and jump out. They’ll loose some raptors and vipers and probably get shot up a bit but you’ll still have 2 functional Battlestars, whatever folks got off the planet and the cylons now aware you’ll resort to insanity to beat them if needed
a great moment in BSG, when the 2nd squadron is revealed, the humans aren't just prey, they become the predator and the frakkin' toasters don't even know it.

One of the great punch-the-air moments of as Sci-Fi, when the unbeatable villain, finally loses.
A bazillion years ago, when this was first on Sci Fi channel, I watched this with my wife. She was not a fan of scifi but when we saw the scene with the freighter containers she was like, "HAH! NO WAY!"

One of the truly great sci-fi series. First time viewers of this YT video cannot appreciate the full impact of that sequence unless/until they make the emotional investment to watch the series from the beginning. It's time very well spent.
My friend, you have nailed it on the head! The emotion this scene conjures up is intense...it makes my eyes go misty and every hair on my body stand on end...one of the most memorable scenes from BSG...which of course is one of the greatest Science Fiction shows ever made!
Yeah it's the first win humanity scores against the Cylons since the genocide
This series dates from 2004 and was the high water mark for any televised drama ever. 16 years later still nothing has come close to matching it. It was quite probably the best TV series of all time.
For its first two seasons, anyway.
@@Fricasso79 Sounds a lot like Game Of Thrones, though BSG fans weren't *QUITE* as disappointed with the shows ending.
Along with BB5 I agree.
I would recommend you check Black Sails. It's basically a prequel to treasure island book. First season the studio forced the creative team to make a GOT competitor. The creative team however stuck to their position and each season improves.

I don't care what all the haters say this was a great series and I grew up watching the original Battlestar Galactica
B D Agreed 👽
I dunno: Kara Thrace was such a hot mess of a character--she was hot, brave, stupid, smart self destructive, all at the same time, she was a fabulous character.
That's a great piece of trivia! I'd love to find out more-especially what parts the rest of the cast are assigned in Greek Mythology. Do you have a linky?
Damn right!
She brought a little more depth to the character. I'm sure the OG Starbuck could have easily done so. But the writing was different back then. I don't know if another dude would have been able to pull of another "male" Starbuck. She was still tough(maybe a little tougher than male Starbuck), still the best pilot in the fleet, and still Apolo's best friend. I like it, and Dirk Benedict is my man from A-Team & BSG. I mean he played Face Man & StarBuck!! #winninginthe80's
Ahh. The "Hand of God."
This episode really cemented my love of this show.
This is the moment I was hooked, so much Death and Loss up to this point and now a hard earned victory.
"Strike-One, Tear-em Up!!!"
Awesome viper piloting by Apollo
Before Apollo became a lawyer for some reason lol
Yeah that was my least favorite story of an otherwise excellent show.
great moment at 7:30. adama lets himself feel a couple of moments of joy, for this victory was hard fought and the first one since the tradgedy at the colonies. but a few moments later, galsses back on and back to work. like hes thinking, yes, we won the battle, but a long hard road still remains ahead of us
Lee definitely earned his callsign, God of the Hunt indeed.
You need to get your Greek mythology in check. The Greek god of the hunt is the goddess Artemis. Apollo is the god of the sun
That’s Artemis silly boi
Yeah you guys are right, good thing my old Greek Mythology professor didn't see this. Apollo and Artemis both used the bow so I think that's where I got them mixed up. Well... Apollo did turn the Cylon base into a miniature sun so that fits... Stretching the metaphor a bit but hey.
William Costigan close enough
Some people may comment on the way the CIC broke down into cheers but consider what they had gone through to this point. If anyone in fiction ever needed the morale boost of a win like this, it was the BSG crew.
Love this show one of the best ever on TV. It was well-written and all of the scenes and the special effects were so believable that's what made it special and made it really a good show and the actors were great
I watched Hand of God several times. This was the first time I recall a “happy ending” in the series. And of course the first time Wander My Friends is belted out

Yeah I saw that too, and it's Praxidike
Couldn’t leave in the celebration in the hanger? I love the music in that scene
A truly great moment and capture of a Commander and their troops in battle and victory on many levels. Rare is a Commander that can both avail and excuse himself in the presence of the sovereign leader and lead in both capacities. Rarer still is the ability to lead and command the reslect of both while respecting time, place, and decorum--Wlliam Adama (Edward James Olmos) does this beautifully. Then, in victory, the commander feels his losses while also feeling in the great euphoria of victory; yet, maingain his composure as evident in his orde to "tell our people to pursue and destroy."
This is what I miss about this series and great sci-fi in particular.

Absolutely one of the best (if not THE BEST) show the SyFy channel ever put out.
This is one of the greatest space battle I've ever seen and proably the most "tacticool" one. This was also the second or third BSG episode I saw on TV during the original run. I just couldn't believe that all of a sudden, such a well-thought space battle was on TV. This is as good as the greatest Babylon 5 battles, although its strengths lie elsewhere. The space battles in Expanse aren't all that great after Donnager.
I only wish the Klingon - Federation war in the first season in STD would've been given some thought because it was awful.
Indeed. I don't like many of the aspects of nBSG but they do have some of the best depictions of Space Combat in all of Sci Fi. And all of STD is awful, but the Klingon - Federation war was some of the absolute worst in that show. Specially how they end it.
The first time I saw this scene I immediately thought it was a hommage to the Falcon flying into the second Death Star! :-)
Brakkeleer Thuis in his podcast for this scene Ronald D Moore said this was paying homage to the Death Star trench run in Star Wars
Ah, so I was close then. ;)
IF ONLY the first & second Death Star runs were so ass puckeringly intense as this!
Apologies! I saw the "Original" the theaters back in '77; I should have been more specific & indicated the run on Death Star 2 kind of lacked in the thrill department.
I thought the same thing when I first saw this a few months ago; I rewatch these a few times before commenting. . .
The Viper Mark ll is an absolutely beautiful fighter .
Despite the fact that it wouldn't fly in space? Wings don't work too well in a near vacuum, and the wings were even too small to work adequately in an atmosphere.
I like the Viper Mk VII much better. The Mk II looks way too bulky, and the cockpit design is utter garbage, with next to no cockpit rear visibility, which considering that close dogfighting appears to be the only type of combat they do on this show, is a MASSIVE disadvantage.
it looks rugged and early sci-fi tech, but hey
The Viper is extremely well designed for space. It has RCS thrusters mounted along the top, bottom and wing tips, has a large main thruster and reverse thrusters, so it can accelarate, brake and change it's heading at will. In atmosphere it would turn into a lawn dart, but most sci-fi starfighter designs are the same. The even move more or less correctly in the series, with the RCS used to point the nose or make small sideways corrections. @@dwightstewart7181
fix0the0spade .. Okay, the viper isn't "extremely well designed" for anything. It's a fake, a fantasy, a toy created to be a television prop. If you think I'm going to argue over it's imaginary merits, you're out of your mind. It has nothing you're talking about.
I truly loved this show! Thanks for sharing man. Greets from the Netherlands, T.
I love how it's not even a 'surprise' what they did with the freighter. It's established they have about 20 Vipers capable of fighting, but only nine go out, and Apollo isn't among them. You immediately wonder what's going on, and find out the trick and feel so happy when you figure out the plan.

A victory to survive a little longer but they celebrate like the war was over. It shows just how low fleet moral was and how desperate they were to live another day, week, month. Every victory was worth celebrating like tomorrow was their last.
This one was especially poignant as it was the first time the Colonials were the ones conducting the attack and not just reacting and running as they had been all the while. This is the first time they really had a "victory" in this war, their celebration was absolutely warranted.
