  • In this video I'll be giving you my top 5 tips on how to secure a top grade for your Narrative Coursework. I'll also be looking at the mark scheme, and will finish by looking at an A* model.
    This video will be helpful if you are doing the coursework component or paper 2.
    You don't need to watch the whole thing... Feel free to skip to whatever is relevant for you. However, simply watching it for 1 minute is not going to help.
    If you would like me to make a similiar video for the descriptive coursework, let me know.

      Nothing wrong with that (if done successfully!) take a read of the examiner reports; Cambridge do say the say thing every year. One may argue that we are stifling their creativity a little... But, I have to say, some of my best pieces have been (somewhat) drawn from personal experiences. I have allowed some students to do their own thing in the past, but quite often they end up being a little silly and farfetched. Of course, if you have more voracious readers and confident writers, you can give them more flexibility.

    Hi! Do you have any recourses that explain the 7 text types that might come in question 3 paper 1 (extended response to reading)? The 7 text types are news report, formal report, journal, speech, interview, article and letter. I’ve only mastered letter and for the others, I have no clue what their structure looks like at all

    • @IGCSESUCCESS
      @IGCSESUCCESS  3 роки тому +1

      You want to start by practising small paragraphs. Don't overwhelm yourself and certainly don't compare yourself to others. Think about maybe writing 100 words with a clear focus. Describe a beach with a sunset... And have a clear success criteria...
      Say to yourself...
      I'm going to use three effective sentence starters
      I'm going to use three ambitious words
      I'm going to use 2 examples of imagery.

    In I think the second page where she was listing out the memories, the student used multiple semi-colons all in the same sentence. Are we allowed to do that? Or is it considered a run-on sentence?

    • @IGCSESUCCESS
      @IGCSESUCCESS  3 роки тому +1

      Semi colons weren't always used successfully. You can use them to list to avoid confusion; however, the student doesn't quite get it right. I'd stick with using them to link two independent clauses. Hope that makes sense!!

    Hello sir, I just have a question if you don't mind me asking. I apologize in advance. Sir I wrote this piece but I don't know whether it is descriptive or narrative. I don't know what theme I am writing in. Is this considered a narrative? And is the tense correct? Hopefully you will respond sir.
    The sun rose proudful that morning, showing off its light to the universe and mocking the darkness in the world. And as the night seemed to disappear into the blue sky; a bright baby boy was born that day, erupting with cries and shrieks. He was born with not a slightest clue of where he was or what the world was like. But he knew that he was now alive and was alive to live. Time passed and that boy became 1. Held in his mother’s embrace, he was brought to a mirror. He stared back at himself - with both confusion and curiosity. Realizing that it was him smiling back and that his mother was looking back at him with shining eyes. “It’s a mirror honey”, his mother told him. Joy was laced over the boy’s face, when he understood that this gigantic weird reflective surface was known as a mirror. The boy hugged his mum and turned away from the mirror, forgetting the feeling of euphoria he had shared with his mother a few minutes back. As the clock continued to tick over the years, the boy became 8. He had already begun going to school; he now had a dream. A dream to be happy and to look at a mirror and be able to smile about his life he lived. The boy became 21, he had worked days and nights to get into his dream job. He had gotten in. He dashed home to tell his mother the joyous news; however, when he arrived back home. The house was quiet. The hypnotic sound of the clock amplified extensively around the house, almost echoing off of the walls. He called out for his mother… no response. He frantically made it up the carpeted stairs, trying to block out all the negative thoughts that seemed to swarm around in his brain. He stood outside his mothers’ bedroom. He placed his ear hesitantly against the ebony wooden door. Silence; that was the only thing that could be heard… piercing silence. He opened the door widely just to be displayed with something that would scar him forever. That boy is no longer a boy; he has now become an old man sitting at the same hospital he had first arrived to in this world. He looked across his hospital room to find a mirror hung up. He stood up and slowly made his way towards it. There were no longer any curious or joyful eyes staring back at him. Instead, his eyes were darkened by the hate and sadness of this world. But what hurt him most was that there wasn’t his mother next to him this time. No longer here to tell her saddened son that this what they call a mirror.
