This actually made me tear up; it's is my childhood.:) I fell in love with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang when I was a little girl and I always thought it was the most magical thing in the world. I loved it so dearly that I asked for it every Christmas but never got it. Then, a couple years ago my wish finally came true and I received the special 2-disc DVD edition of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which came in a beautiful golden cover. I will forever love this movie. :)
I think "Chitty Bang Bang" was one of the best movies ever made....and Dick Van Dyke was one of the best all time actor and comedian being up there with Charlie Chaplin and Jerry Lewis !
Chitty's always gonna be there to save the day. Because she's a true genie. I know this is gonna sound corny, but Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was one of my first true super heroes!! I mean, she could do ANYTHING!!
My all time favourite. When I saw it at the cinema there was an interval, just as the car went over the cliff. We all ate our ice creams in wide-eyed suspense - would chitty fly??? Those were the days.
Oh thank you! I idnt have the metal car, I put together the plastic model, spent hours painting "just so" man, I love this movie, and have been so saddened that the DVD release wasnt in widescreen format, they should give Chitty some respect! (And the orignal book, is completely different, but absolutly delightful thanks so much
im younger than you (24) but i still get shivvers up my spine as she plummits off the cliff then i she unfurls her wings and takes off!. just brilliant! :D. I have the plastic corgi toy, and the large scale model, pining for the small metal corgi one :).
They just made homage to this in the last scene of a American Dad Episode tonight. The Jeff the stoner hippie Hayley is with turns his van into chitty chitty bang bang. I laughed my ass off.
i had a ride in the car what recantly sold in los angeles it used to belong in the uk and i am a huge fan and wen it came to town were we live i just had to have a ride in it :P
@aramax1001 I agree. Loved this movie growing-up and still love it at 47! There was just something really cool about this movie and the music was excellent too!
You can also see the cliffs and the lighthouse in the movie "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". The Beachy Head site was used as the hosting grounds for The Quiddich World Cup. You can see the cliffs and the lighthouse for a second at the beginning of the scene when the game first starts.
This scene was filmed on the famous "Beachy Head" on the south coast of England. The white chalk cliffs face the English channel and is sadly, a famous suicide spot. The cliff rises to a height of 531ft above sea level, and is the highest sea chalk cliff in Britain. The waters were the scene of major ship battles from the 1600's to WW1 and in WW2 the RAF established a forward relay (radio) station. The lighthouse was built in 1831, you can see it as the car flies past at the base of the cliff.
Loved this film as a kid, but when it came to this scene, I always had a problem. Before they drove off the cliff, Jeremy and Jamima where wearing hats (paperboy hat and straw hat), and when they're flying off the cliff the hats are gone (understandable, because of the speed they were going and all that scientific stuff)... but Truly's hat stays on, and the shawl never moves. Hhhhmmm...
The movie is frequently confused with "Mary Poppins" (a far more superior film) but it has its own charms. ... ... Nope. Nuh-uh. Negative. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is THE best Dick Van Dyke musical.
@rushthezeppelin I watched it last Friday when my little brother mentioned it, and when I saw for myself, I... well... I kind of made a bit of a fanboy scream. XD Either way, I guess it shows that Seth MacFarlane is a true blue CCBB fan. :)

I remember loving this as a kid. Now it just seems so corny. But I can see why it appeals to kids.

Back in my day, kids could stand in the back seat of flying cars. None of these fancy seat belts, airbags or roof were needed!
Miss those Days.. !!
Memories...

I also like this movie 🎥.
It's the future of NFS.
Why is everyone brittish but Dick Van Dyke? His accent in Mary Poppins wasn't THAT bad.....

does anyone else think the child-catcher looks like/reminds you of the Penguin from Batman Returns?
That's the white cliffs around Eastbourne, Sussex. Beachy Head.
The movie is frequently confused with "Mary Poppins" (a far more superior film) but it has its own charms.

@gazaguy damn, you must be like 45 years old or so! my parents showed me this movie when I was 4 years old, that was in 1999.
@rushthezeppelin I watched it last Friday when my little brother mentioned it, and when I saw for myself, I... well... I kind of made a bit of a fanboy scream. XD Either way, I guess it shows that Seth MacFarlane is a true blue CCBB fan. :)
What, no seat belts?
I don`t know...the man is Dick Van Die?
If the quality of the video was better, you can clearly see that they are in front of a green screen. You can see an outline around the characters.
They actually didn't have green screen back then. This was 1968. We hadn't even landed on the moon yet
Which pixel was Truly ?
Shitty Shitty Bang Bang
@gazaguy they didnt have airbag these days
