- Much has been said about the BMW 1M, but not many have covererd the history of the car and the development and how the car was positioned when it was released in 2011. There is so much effusive praise for the car and much of it deserverd, however it does have some flaws and that is part of the charm.
So many cars today are over-engineered and the essential character dialed down to the point where you're missing the emotion. Not so with with legendary 1M. It's a parts bin special and it's very special to drive, even 10 years after its release. This is my personal BMW 1M.

Just bought a 135 with the N54 with a stage one Dinan tune and M Performance package. Absolutely love it! Wanted an E46 M3 but could not justify the premium price of one. So happy with my choice. Truly one of last analog ultimate driving machines.
I had a 135i before I bought the 1M. Great car and bonkers performance for the money with a few cheap mods.
I couldn't afford this but a few years ago I finally got my 2011 335is manual. It is similar in a lot of ways to the 1M and even though it MRSP'd for more than the 1M at the time, they have since fallen and become much more reasonable now. I love my N54
The 335is is a great car. I've driven a few. The N54 is a wonderful motor. Powerful for the time, and quite mod-friendly.
Great video man! Absolute love the shape of the E82. I have a diesel version but thinking about a 1M conversion but with an S65!

Awesome car. You actually look pretty slick in the BMW shirt. I think Porsche had been doing alcantara over the gauges for a while, but not sure of that. Sucks about your first 1M! Great video, Eric.
It's been an option on Porsche for a while, but I'm not sure when that started. It was certainly a bit weird in 2011 for a BMW.

Loved the video. Can you share the detail on the smoke colored looking rims that are on the outside shots, driving segments? They don't look like the OEM rims, but they look great.
They are Apex ARC-8 18” rims.

@@fyicary Yes Anthracite. 285-18 rear, 275-18 front. I forget the aspect ratio. No rubbing.

Excellent video you've made of a fantastic car. May I ask regarding the N54 engine and it's problems with some owners, I've heard the biggest worry can be the serpentine belt snapping & being sucked into crank shaft seal. Have you heard of this yourself much over your ownership time?

I have not experienced this or heard of of it, but I wouldn't have searched for it since I never had that issue.
I've owned my 1M for 11 years and have never heard of this as a common issue with the cars. Most common engine issue by far (and a pretty minor one) is the charge pipe popping off or tearing. This is easily fixed by swapping out for a more robust aftermarket alternative
Hpfp,ofhg, and wastegate issues are what ive seen occur more
The 1M is indeed a special car and one of the best BMWs ever made
The M2 is also just as good as the 1M if not better
I disagree. I’ve driven them back to back. The 1M is far more communicative. The electric steering in the M2 lacks any kind of feeling. It has slightly better numbers, but it feels a bit neutered to me. The M2 Comp is much better.

A family friend I know had an M2 Comp and he sold it and now ordered an M2 CS with a 6-speed manual

Did BMW really provide the shirt?
Yes. Well, BMW contracted via a fulfillment center, but I needed to give them a VIN and it was only 1 shirt per VIN.

@@chuy7able I got the shirt back in 2011 when I bought the car new. There was a web page where you had to input a VIN. I somewhat doubt this is still available, but search BimmerPost forums.
