    I found your videos about two years ago. I had broken my favorite, most sentimental rod while on vacation in the Smoky Mountains. So I looked up tons of videos on repairs and found one of yours. You gave some really helpful info and I am still using that rod to this day. I just wanted to say thanks.

      William - thank you so much for letting me know. I can't tell you how much it makes my day to hear that my work actually helped someone. ESPECIALLY if it was for one of those rods that was sentimental for you - I'm so happy I could help. You made my Sunday. I hope it's alright with you but I'll probably take a screenshot of this comment and put it on my website so that other people can see it as well. If you happen to snag any pictures of fish you catch while using the rod I'd love to see 'em. Tight lines & talk soon!

      For sure! Let me know how it goes. I used the pole again earlier this week and caught 4 more. Biggest went 2.5 lbs so the BBFF rod is still doing good work. I'll keep putting those up on Thursday Night Fishing - Godspeed!

      @@TheMinimalistFisherman I actually hooked a good one in my kayak fishing tournament video on Wilson SFL! It’s the last catch and I lost the fish but the rod did it’s job! It was just that I tried to pull him in by the line and I pulled the hook out of his mouth! I actually ended up using Bondo to reinforce it!

    Hello, would this work for a broken rod where it has broken near the tip? 10 inches down from the tip.

    • @TheMinimalistFisherman
      @TheMinimalistFisherman  3 роки тому +2

      It could POSSIBLY work, but it would depend on the thickness of the blank at that point of the rod. I've only used this method in the middle of the blank but if you want to shoot me a picture through Instagram I will take a look at it: @theminimalistfisherman

    It's funny because I had bought a package of that fiber tape and I had done a trial run and it didn't work out so well and I still had it sitting waiting for the next time I was going to try it, so funny I didn't have to wait to try it to be disappointed, I only had to watch this video LOL

    • @TheMinimalistFisherman
      @TheMinimalistFisherman  3 роки тому

      Yeah the fiber fix stuff is strong, but it's not strong enough to fix a rod by itself without something bracing the inside of the blank... in my opinion :)

      Hey thanks Jamie, I really appreciate that. It was a super fun project although I hated breaking the rod... that part sucked after building it! If you have fiberglass coming apart you might have a hard time stopping that. Depending on where it's at you could try to and it down just a TINY bit, and if it's close to the reel seat or lower on the rod in a place that won't flex too much when you set the hook, you could try to add a very light layer of some sort of flexible clear coat to prevent more fiberglass from coming up. I would look at some sort of flexible rod wrap epoxy to start. Hope that helps! Have a great week.

    I think you can vacuum pack your excess fiber fix resin tape and it will store for future use

    i broke an ultra light rod yesterday it was a carbon blank i used an ice fishing rod and cutted it at the right place so it fit perfectly inside my carbon rod. The thing is that the insert is fiberglass and im worried that its gonna break on one of the end of the insert since the insert seems to be stronger than the actual carbon fiber. i wrapped the rod where the insert starts and finished. just hope it wont break. Its a tiny and very fragile rod.

    • @TheMinimalistFisherman
      @TheMinimalistFisherman  3 роки тому +1

      Nice - I wish you the best of luck with your fix! How did you attach the insert so that it would stay in place inside of the broken rod?

    • @nicolasbellemare8958
      @nicolasbellemare8958 3 роки тому +1

      @@TheMinimalistFisherman i pushed it in place from the open end of the rod (the top section) with epoxy glue. it was taper as well so it fitted perfectly then put the rest of the rod onto the insert with epoxy. The insert comes in contact with the handle part of the rod while they are assembled so there is no play and its very tight. i wrapped it anyway just to prevent it to break and it seems to work perfectly. actually i caught a laker today with this ultra light rod and 4lbs mono and it was tested for real haha

    Has anyone ever cut apart the part of a 2-piece rod to see what the manufacturers are using?

    • @TheMinimalistFisherman
      @TheMinimalistFisherman  3 роки тому +1

      Great question - I believe they are just sized differently so the upper portion of the rod slides into the lower portion. They reinforce that overlap of the two pieces with... something... I don't know - we should investigate!

      @@TheMinimalistFisherman , it’s been a little bit but I’ve finally gotten to the bottom of it. The part is called a ferrule. You measure the diameter where the break is in 64ths of an inch, and order an appropriately sized ferrule. The store I found online that had those plus an amazing selection of other gear is called Jann’s Netcraft. I just put both ends of the ferrule on a little bit ago using some of the Fuji rod repair 2-part epoxy. I’ll let it cure overnight and then wrap some thread around the end nearest the rod tomorrow to dress it up, although it doesn’t really look bad the way it is.
